The Trial of Lindsay Clancy

It was an assassination style killing, and everybody saw it.

A new podcast series from ABC Audio and 2020 goes inside this captivating case. I'm ABC News Legal Analysts Brian Buckmeyer, listen to burden of proof, Luigi Manjioni, wherever you get your podcasts. The Lindsay Clancy trial has been everywhere. You've heard this woman's name.

“It has been one of the most divisive trials that I can remember and recent time.”

It's sort of a psychological case. The lot of people like the who-done-it, sort of a trial, and this is a why-done-it trial. Who's the real Lindsay Clancy?

The Commonwealth must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant was criminally responsible

at the time the alleged crime was committed. So what happened? On January 24th, 2023, when Patrick leaves the house around 515-93, everything is normal, seems normal. He sees Dawson, eating chicken nuggets and green beans on the couch, before he walks out the door. That's when the clock starts, ladies and gentlemen.

What happens in the next 54 minutes has and probably will divide this country long after this case is done. Patrick Clancy is a husband and dad who's sent out on errors and who returns to the unthinkable.

“When you realized it was really quiet, what did you do?”

I called out. Who did you call out to?

Everyone. Did anyone answer?

No. This is the start of something that sounds like a horror movie. When you unlock the door to your bedroom, did you go in? Yeah. And what did you see when you opened the door and went in?

I just saw blood everywhere and the window is open. And so now we are left asking the question, why? I can't remember the last trial that gripped the nation like this. Nobody can take their eyes off the drama, playing out in court and those two lawyers. This is a woman that was suffering from

psychosis at the time that she went down to that basement. The evidence will show that this defendant had a means and access to mental health that most people don't.

“And she chose to deal with her mental health issues in the worst way.”

Now, this was calculated, premeditated. She killed three of her children. Lindsay was not supposed to live to tell the tale of it she's here. And we have her back. What in the world happened in this house?

What he was gone for less than an hour? What happened to his perfect family? Ducksbury Massachusetts is an idyllic seaside community. South of Boston, it's well-to-do, it's picturesque. It's a beautiful place to raise a family. Lindsay Clancy grew up in Connecticut, settled down in Ducksbury.

She was pretty, she did well in high school. She played volleyball and did competitive cheer. She was an honor student, went on to college where she had a lot of friends. Patrick and Lindsay had what made it considered to be a storybook relationship. Patrick and Lindsay met in 2013.

It was actually Patrick's cousin that set them up. Patrick's cousin was actually roommates with Lindsay. He works in tech. He's from Massachusetts. Then she becomes a labor and delivery nurse. How does she like being a nurse?

She loved it. I think it was her dream. She was the type of nurse that you wanted to take in care of you. Or your loved one when you walked on to our unit. Patrick and Lindsay get married in 2016. They have three children.

Korra, Dawson, and Callon. Family members and friends describe Korra as almost mommy and daddy's little princess.

And Korra was actually named after the first baby that Lindsay had delivered. Patrick and Lindsay were very loving parents. According to family members and friends, she would joke that she wanted to have enough kids for sporting team. She's very dedicated. She did everything.

She started reading the books at three months. She made up songs for them. I remember she used to make green eggs in hand for Korra, because she liked that book. She was very nurturing. Very loving. She was a wonderful mother. Wonderful.

She loved her children. All of them. Very, very much.

She always wanted to be a mother.

Have many children.

“And I felt it was the best thing that ever happened to her.”

And she would do anything for her children. She was just a loving mother. I observed a wonderful mom who loved her kids. She was very concerned with their safety. The clansy seemed like an ordinary family. That was the vibe. They seemed to have everything,

to working parents, adorable kids, grandparents that are involved in their lives. And after each child, Lindsay did struggle, especially with anxiety. And especially with anxiety as she prepared to go back to work. She didn't want to leave her baby too quickly, too soon, that she felt her children needed her.

It was always when she had to go back to work. That's when she struggled.

She just had a really hard time being separated from them. And she was stressed out when she was showing some anxiety. How did that manifest? I don't know. She would say, you know, I'm not looking forward to going back to work. I remember once she said, it's just so unnatural to be separated from your newborn.

You know, stuff like that. January 24th, 2023 in the Clancy household started like any other. Lindsay had to take her daughter Chora to a doctor's appointment when they came home. They built a snowman together. How was Lindsay's mood? She seemed happy.

“Did she ask for help or or anything that caused concern?”

No, she's having one of her best days. A little after five o'clock. That's when Lindsay asks Patrick to go out and run some errands. I took Calen for a minute, and I rocked him by my knees. I kissed Chora on the head, and that's a very pack.

And what was Dawson doing when you were leaving? He was eating chicken nuggets on the couch. Patrick goes to the CVS. It's around 5.32pm. And he realizes they don't have the medication that he was looking for. So he called Lindsay to ask about the medication.

And what was her demeanor during the call? She's pretty quiet. It sounded like she was busy. I remember hanging up thinking she was probably in the middle of giving baths or something like that. And did you, in fact, purchase some PDLX at CVS? Yes.

“Did you purchase anything else while you were there?”

About a pack of skittles. About five minutes later, at 5.37. He drives over to a restaurant called 3v, to pick up their carry-out order. How long approximately did it take you to get from CVS to 3v?

Are there on ten minutes? And when he gets home, his life devolves into hell. No one could be prepared for what Patrick Clancy was about to find in the basement of his home. When Patrick gets home, he's home to a place probably unfamiliar to him. He doesn't hear the the pitter-patter of feet, the crying and laughter of children.

And what he walks into instead is absolute silence. I called out. And who did you call out to? Everyone. Did anyone answer?

No. So what did you do next? I started checking upstairs. And where did you check upstairs? First the bathroom.

I thought maybe they were taking baths, but there's no one there. And then where did you go? The kids' bedrooms. Was there anyone in the kids' bedrooms? No.

And then did you go to your bedroom? Yeah.

“And were you able to get into your bedroom right away?”

No, the door was locked and that's when I knew something was wrong. And I started unlocking the knot. When you unlocked the door to your bedroom, did you go in? Yeah. And what did you see when you opened the door and went in?

I just uploaded everywhere and the window is open. It was everywhere. It looked like it was sprayed almost with a hose. And there was a huge puddle on the middle of the room and it was sprayed all over the pretty much every surface. I remember it was on the door knob.

He runs outside, sees Lindsay on the ground, blood covering her. She had slashed both of her wrists and made slashes to her neck

for jumping out of a second storing window.

He runs over to her and calls 911 at 6/11. And the 911 operator is saying, can you put pressure on her wounds? And he says, well, they've stopped bleeding. And Patrick is saying she's going in and out of consciousness. And he's also trying to speak to Lindsay.

Lindsay, what are you doing, Lindsay? What did you do? Lindsay stay with me, Lindsay. It's okay. Lindsay, what did you do to your neck?

She had deep cuts on her wrists and she had a red line across her neck.

“Did you say anything to Lindsay when you found her in that state?”

Yeah, I said what happened. And what was her response? She said I tried to kill myself. And he won't leave her side until first responders arrive, which is about four to five minutes after he makes the call.

Was she able to speak to you? Yeah, she wasn't known. Was she making any sounds? She was just like, sounded like she was in pain. So something like morning or something like that?

Yes. Did you ask her anything else? I said where are the kids? And what was her response? She said they're in the basement.

It turned very chaotic, very quickly. He walks inside. He walks downstairs and just starts screaming. Oh my god, oh my god. I was in the courtroom when they played the 911 call.

And it's something I'll never forget.

I've heard screams from a human. I've never heard before. He is screaming and screaming and screaming. He screams. He killed the [bleep] kids.

What did you see? It's a core. And how did she look? She had a band around her neck. And was that an exercise band?

Yeah. I immediately ran over and tried to take the band off. Was she responsive? No. And what did you see or do next?

I saw Carolyn. And where was he? He was next to her. And how did he appear? He had a band around his neck.

And did you remove that as well? Yeah. What did you do next? I tried to find Dawson. And where did you go?

I looked in the bathroom on the other side of the couch. And then I went to the other side of the basement using my office. And when you saw Dawson, what condition was he in? I knew he was gone. As EMTs arrived, they described him trying to take the exercise

bands for around their necks.

He was in a circular motion, taking something off the head.

Around the head, around the neck.

“Heramedics desperately tried to resuscitate”

that children so did their father. Everybody was rushed to the hospital. Meanwhile, police are inside the house, collecting evidence, trying to figure out what happened. They collected, of course, the exercise bands.

They collect swabs of blood. They collect laptops. Cell phones, electronic devices. To try to understand exactly what happened. And they gather a lot of medication.

A lot of bottles of prescription medications prescribed to Lindsay. It's those medications.

They'll become a central part of her defense.

Her lawyer claims it was the mixing and switching of multiple psychiatric medications that contributed to her downward spiral. Lindsay was prescribed somewhere around a dozen or more medications. And her family says none of them seem to be working. In fact, they said she seemed to be getting worse and worse.

The more she asks for help. In September of 2022, Lindsay is really struggling with depression and anxiety. In the final four months before Lindsay killed the kids, she saw a number of medical providers. She saw a psychiatrist in September.

She saw a two nurse practitioners and a therapist. She started to talk about the effect medication she was prescribed, and what those were doing to her. She is now spiraling. The symptoms are actually worse instead of better.

Lindsay even called the suicide prevention hotline twice. But they couldn't help her. They said because she didn't have an actual plan to kill herself. We know that she went to the ER at least twice. At one point, she even voluntarily checked herself into a psychiatric facility.

The defense argued, Lindsay Clancy was spiraling, and members of her family knew it. There was her sister. She told me she had had suicidal radiation every day for a month. Her mother-in-law.

Begging for help. Lindsay was struggling. We were all very concerned. At one point, she told both her mom and her husband that she was having thoughts about her hurting her kids.

How many times did she tell you this? That she had thoughts of harming the kids? A couple of times. And was that a couple of times over the course of a night or two in December? Yeah.

And as a result of her telling you this, that she had thoughts of harming the kids. What did you do? Her parents came up and I think I asked her at some point,

“you know, do you feel like you need to be kept away from them?”

And she said no. And then I was very confusing because a minute later, she was making the lime chair playing with them or getting right for bed or whatever it was. By mid January of 2023, Patrick said Lindsay seemed to be improving. Her mood seemed better and she was more active and she seemed to be partaking more things.

Were you hopeful at that time that things were getting better? Yeah. Lindsay Clancy barely survived the fall from her window. She suffered severe traumatic injuries to her spine. Her body temperature dropped.

Lindsay's condition actually gets worse while she's at the hospital. She codes in the middle of the night. She needs CPR, chest compressions, and she needed multiple blood transfusions. As she's struggling to survive, Lindsay Clancy is also placed under arrest. There are police officers at her door, and she's handcuffed to her hospital bed, and then,

as she's in intensive care, is when she begins to come to. So she was intubated, so it was difficult for her to really answer a lot of range of questions. And so she just shared to me to be able to write. And did you ask her about her mood that day? I did ask her her mood.

And what did she write? She wrote horrified. And then she wrote down, "Do I have an attorney?" Seven days after the children's death, Lindsay's in the hospital, she's coming to. And she talks to the hospitals, chaplain, and the chaplain is surprised.

The first thing she set to me, she set to me as I hold her hand to comfort her.

I am so glad my children are safe.

“Was there any other conversation that you've got with her?”

I replied, "Theologically, the Lindsay and I said, Lindsay, "your children are a safe. They're safe and have been with God, "and I held her hand throughout that conversation, and we prayed for them." Did she make any other statements to you? She did. She alluded to having heard of voice,

neither she nor her children would be safe.

That is a key moment in this case, Lindsay describing that she heard a voice. And then a few days later, she mentions it again. Patrick Clancy did not go see his wife in the hospital, but a psychologist who's connected to her lawyer started to visit with her, and at one point, she asked for his phone

so she could call her husband. She had told Patrick that she loved him very much. She was unable to express a lot of emotion, but she expressed love for him, and she had said that she heard a male voice ordering her, telling her that she didn't have any choice,

but she had to kill her children, and then kill herself.

“And what did the defendant say at that time about what had happened with the children?”

She didn't talk about our kids. She talked about what she went through. And what did she say about what she went through? She said she heard a man's voice, and we were that if she didn't do it now, she would lose her chance or something like that. Did she kill the children because she couldn't help it,

because she was in the throes of deep psychosis? Psychosis is defined as a loss of touch with reality. Like in postpartum psychosis, the hallmarks of that are having delusions, like fixed false beliefs that something is true, that is not reality-based. It may also include hearing voices,

or believing you're seeing things that aren't actually happening. For three years after Lindsay Clancy's kids died, there are so many questions.

“And finally, with a trial, maybe some answers, was this murder or was this madness?”

Can she be held criminally responsible for killing her children, or was she simply too sick? Oh, this is Chad. The whole original Chad powers. Someone's obsessed with Chad powers. He really is a master of disguise.

Three and a half years later, after these death, Lindsey is on trial for first-degree murder.

There's a ground swell of support for my heart goes out to her. I know she didn't want to do that. The system failed her, we failed her. My heart just breaks more for her every day. A lot of women are coming forward and saying I too suffered with post-partum depression,

and they're standing with Lindsey and they're saying we believe her. And not only that, but it's a moment for women's health. And so many women are now being able to stand up and say I am Lindsey Clancy. And we need more help. Those are all things that I've said or thought.

It's shining light on the need for post-partum care. The basic facts are not in dispute. Both prosecutors and Lindsey Clancy's defense say she killed her children, and she was struggling with her mental health.

“The question at the center of this trial is, is she a victim or is she a villain?”

Is this murder or is it Marcus? Lindsey Clancy has pleaded not guilty. The commonwealth of Massachusetts does not use the word insanity.

That she was in this state where she just had no understanding of right or wrong.

In the courtroom, she's a diminutive figure. She's paralyzed from the waist down so she's wheeled to the defense table in a wheelchair. And she's stuck there listening to gut-wrenching testimony that at times has overwhelmed her. And she has openly wailed in court such that the judge at times has had to call time out. What about injuries?

I can't see. Let me take a break. Lindsey Clancy is front and center and all eyes are on her. Whenever somebody is testifying, the jury will quickly look at the person testifying, but then all turn to watch Lindsey's reaction.

“And I believe it's because the jury is trying to figure out who the real Lindsey Clancy is.”

The prosecution contends that Lindsey's actions were premeditated, that she planned all of this. The prosecution called doctor after doctor, medical provider after medical provider, to say that Lindsey Clancy was not in the throes of psychosis.

Lindsey first sees a doctor by the name of Dr. Tufts who she sees regularly.

Did you ask her she had any homicidal ideation or thoughts? Yes, what was her response? No. Did you ask her if she was hearing any voices or seeing any visual hallucinations? I'm not sure if I asked that in that appointment, but she was very clearly not psychotic. Over the next four months, Lindsey Clancy sees more medical care.

Did you ever have any concerns based on your contact with Lindsey Clancy that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis? I did not. Do you ever see or observe any signs of mania delusion or paranoia? No. Any signs of psychosis observed by you? No. Then she checks in to an inpatient psychiatric facility for five days in early January.

Did you observe any signs of psychosis? No. And even the day before the deaths, she saw Dr. Tufts. And did you notice any symptoms or signs of psychosis that day? No. Lindsey did change care quite a bit. The prosecution paints that out as Lindsey docked her hopping.

They argue she was going from one to the next, getting different prescriptions. Not taking medication, she had previously been prescribed.

And they say she was basically self-sabotaging any medical plan.

Did she also tell you, and this is a quote in a record on page 144,

“"I think it's my problem. I keep reaching out to different people and not sticking with the plan."”

That's what I documented. I advised that she have one person who is managing the medications. The prosecution keeps pushing this idea that Lindsey was planning their deaths, even on the day of the incident, will she's making snowmen in the yard and texting or husband and sending them out for food? This is all part of the master plan.

They called people who examined her phone and found that she made some searches online, including how long it would take her husband to complete the errands she had sent him on. Was there also a search for an Apple Maps for three days? Yes. If you plug in three-ve restaurant to Apple Maps and it maps out a route to get there, does it tell you from your location to the three-ve how long it would take to get there?

Listen, traffic conditions, yes. The prosecution says Lindsey knew how long her husband would be out running the errands.

“By the time he gets the medication from CVS, they say she'll already kill the kids”

and then was on to the next step of her plan, the suicide. And the trial is only heating up. I don't want to go to the side, but I really don't want to go to the side. Why do you do know what you're going to find? Come on. From the dog game to the rat game.

More football, more coverage, more ways to watch. Football's on, also is a law on ESPN and streaming on the ESPN app. In addition to playing out in the courtroom, this trial is absolutely playing out in the court of public opinion. There are thousands of people online who think they know better.

I have been up for the past three nights until 2am trying to put this together like a puzzle. This is absolutely insane. The online conversation about this case has devolved significantly into outright conspiracy theories. People are throwing out that Patrick was about husband and somehow coerced Lindsay into killing her kids or that he might have killed them himself.

The response to this trial that I've seen on this app has genuinely had me outrage. People are clutching at straws, trying to come up with alternative theories. So they are studying the jacket and the shoes of Patrick walking into the CVS. Did he change his clothes? Why would he do that?

I-37, he leaves CVS. Take some 17 minutes to get to 3v, which is only an 8 to 10 minute drive. And now he's completely changed into a phozoop sweater and he's got lace sneakers on. We have found absolutely nothing to indicate that Patrick was involved. The way they're twisting this evidence just wild.

Obviously conspiracy theories never make it into court.

But it really is just a sign. This country is fixated on this trial. Believe it or not, this trial is even creating social media celebrities. Like Lindsay's 75-year-old lawyer Kevin Reddington. Kevin Reddington's becoming somewhat of an icon.

And people are so impressed at the way he is defending her so fiercely. Reddington brought a whole different energy and approach in the court room. This is a prosecution that has ripped the soul out of this group. A bit more bomb-based perhaps. She did not have pressure speech.

I wrote that, but you're missing interpreting my note. But he's out to prove to the jury that she was sick

and cannot be held criminally responsible for the murders.

One of the most tense moments of this trial was when Defense Attorney Kevin Reddington went after Jennifer Tufts. He attacked Dr. Tufts, mostly for her inexperience. But he also indicted the healthcare system as well.

“To basically say, why couldn't she get a more experienced psychiatrist than Dr. Tufts?”

So, you understand that if, in fact, it's determined that you advertise as an expert in post-part. And in post-part of psychiatry, and you've had a love, experienced plus of reasons. Would you consider that to be negative for a misorganization? I do not believe that I have been negligent. Do you understand the strategies of the opinions?

Yes. So, the month, I didn't think about what she'd recently seen. You didn't want this jury to be the fewer an expert. And you have to tell us that? I just think the wording was that it's an interest of mine.

The defense says Lindsey, it's all at help. And that instead of actually helping Lindsey, what they did was just prescribe more medication. Haven't read it and brought up an entire chart of medication to show what Lindsey was on. Do you status her on puest for her on, right?

Yes. You also, a week later, wrote a script for "The Asapant" 5 milligrams. Zach Correct. Correct.

Did you prescribe more drugs for her? At this occasion, I prescribed volume. They were just throwing drugs at her, according to Katan Reddington. Seeing what would stick, seeing what would work, tapering her off some drugs,

while increasing other drugs, the prosecution portrayed Lindsey as someone who kept going from doctor to doctor, not because she wasn't getting the help that she wanted. She was doctor shopping to find who would give her the best medicines and prescriptions that she wanted.

But the defense pointed to Lindsey's notebooks, where she was keeping track of her medications. They're saying she took her pills as prescribed, and that any pills she wasn't taking were discontinued prescriptions.

“And then the defense puts on their key witness, Dr. Paul Zisol,”

who saw Lindsey Clancy 11 days after the death of her children.

My opinion is that she did have indeed a mental disease or defect.

She had bipolar disorder with postpartum psychoses. In addition, she was unable to conform her behaviors to the real of law. And she had no appreciation for the wrongfulness of her act. When he looked at all of her records and her behaviors, he says that it was predictable that all the signs were there

that she could end up in postpartum psychosis. This perfect storm was brewing, but nobody helped. And is it that you're understanding to a reasonable degree of medical certainty

that a person who's in a psychotic state is able to drive a calf for a short distance,

go to an appointment and interact and talk to people. Yes, they can do everyday tasks of living. But on cross examination, the prosecution attempted to poke holes in Dr. Zisol's testimony because he only had the opportunity to evaluate her after the incident, not before.

“Are you familiar with the concept of confirmation bias?”

Of course. I afraid to say that clinicians are warned that they may lean towards or support their own theories and overlook contradictory evidence, and they have to be aware of that, correct? Yes.

The defense rest of the case with the prosecution has a chance to present a rebuttal.

And they bring up a theory called altruistic fillicide. With their own forensic psychologists who analyzed Lindsay for three days, this past April. Altruistic fillicide is a term that's used that means killing your kids out of love. This was a serious suicide attempt, and she wanted the children to be with her,

so she wouldn't be separated from them, and so they wouldn't have to suffer after she was gone. He found it unusual, very odd, that Lindsay heard this male voice had this hallucination one time, and he raised the possibility of how convenient and suspicious that was.

“Why are you careful when someone tells you that they only experience this voice during a criminal offense?”

Well, because it provides a convenient way of lessening your own culpability. For both sides, it's an uphill battle. There is no smoking gun. There is no one magical doctor who knows everything, right? Everything that happened that day, every person she interacted with, every situation she was in, shows you she knew the difference between right and wrong, and she could conform her behavior to the

long. She is guilty. This young lady is not guilty. But the killing of her children, because she was suffering from a disease and defect, as his owner instructed you, and they're not going to be able to prove otherwise. This truly is to competing size trying to prove who's right. And now it's up to the jury to decide what to make of Lindsay Clancy.

For the next session, maybe see you. What happened next was just so unbelievable. I'm just trying to find out what it is that you're asking for. People have been called back into the room. Every single seat in the room is filled. It does seem that the judge is now bringing in the jurors one by one. The judge is pulling the jurors individually. The plot begins something must have happened

in the jury room. We begin with breaking news a dramatic day in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial in Plumith, Massachusetts. The jury had been deliberating for six long days, more than 35 hours. And they've already told the judge twice that they're deadlocked.

“You have to remember that a five year old, a three year old, and an eight month old”

have lost their lives. These jurors have been trying to determine what justice should look like in this case. We all thought there was going to be a conclusion. Some sort of resolution to this case. But instead, we find that one juror is supposedly not following the instructions of the judge. At this point, everyone seems to be tired. Even frustrating, defense attorney writing tends seems especially irritated. The whole week, the whole period of deliberations has been

a rollercoaster ride. But today there was even more chaos and more drama. Over the defendant's objection, I'm going to declare a mistrial at this point. The judge says he's going to have to declare a mistrial. And then out of the blue, we have this sort of bombshell maneuver when he stood

Effectively, to force Judge Sullivan to allow the jury to keep deliberating.

“The Russian emergency hearing, but ultimately, the 11th hour Hail Mary by Reddington doesn't”

work. The court denies the motion and the mistrial was actually declared. The emergency request for relief was denied and the temporary stay is lifted. Members of the jury, at this point, I'm going to declare that the jury is deadlocked and I'm going

to declare a mistrial. Oh, mistrial has finally been declared. With that, you're discharged.

Now, the question is, what happens next? Will we see a retrial of Lindsey Clancy or will there be some sort of negotiation a plea deal or something else? After court, Lindsey leaves the same way she has for the last seven weeks in a marked sheriff's office van. And the courtroom

cases. Children were murdered in its eye job to seek justice. I do know that one of the questions are out here right now regarding retriles. I will let you know that there will be no decisions made today regarding that. It's a very sad case. I'm representing a woman who is a

fantastic, wonderful individual. There is something you would do differently with the second trial.

Why would I? I won the case. I'm not going to have Lindsey sitting there under a cloud of a first degree murder indictment which you run in the case and everybody literally in the world knows that she was acquitted. Even with this trial over, the litigation doesn't end when it comes to Lindsey and Patrick. Both Patrick and Lindsey have filed civil lawsuits against mental health care providers. Patrick Clancy is filing a wrongful death suit on behalf of his children.

Lindsey is suing for medical malpractice and negligence. All of Lindsey Clancy's providers have denied any wrongdoing. Just after the Clancy Children were killed, Patrick the husband shared a statement online writing quote, "I want to ask all of you that you find it deep within yourselves to forgive Lindsey as I have. The Real Lindsey was generously loving and caring towards everyone. Me, our kids, family, friends, and her patients." Good evening and welcome to Holy Family

Parish. A year after the tragedy, a memorial service was held at their church holy family in Ducksbury. My hope is that today we can begin a new chapter and continuing to remember Corridos and and Cowan but also inspire the world to carry on their legacy of kindness. Patrick Clancy started a non-profit in honor of his children. Patrick Clancy has begun a new life for himself. He filed for divorce. He sold the house where his children were killed and he has

gotten remarried in New York. This is a really tragic story and a really tragic trial but if there

“is one bright spot, I think it's the conversation that this case has started around mental health care”

and support for new mothers. Instead of suffering and silence, women are now talking a lot more about postpartum mental health and wellness. Women need better postpartum support. They need earlier follow-up and we need a village that checks in on us that should not take a tragedy like this for people to pay attention. One to two per thousand new moms will have postpartum psychosis. It's uncommon but it happens. Postpartum psychosis is temporary, treatable and one can fully recover

from it. Money percent upwards of cases will have full recovery. I hope that we can learn from this.

I never wish this to happen and we need to be talking about this night and day.
