Hey, hey, the Cover Three, tailgate. They are saying the words that we're all saying. What a game. You could not ask for more, in terms of drama, stakes, the competitors, the contenders, everything was happening. All at once, we had a Cyhawk over here on one hand coming down to the very end.

We had a huge Texas comeback on the line, on another Texas Tech was messing around with Oregon State.

Looking like we're going to have a real situation. As we are coming to you live, on 11, 21 PM Eastern Time, Texas Tech is just scored with about a minute left in the fourth quarter. It seems as though they will have versed disaster. We will update you on that and anything else. But yeah, we're just going to go ahead and start the top five matchup that absolutely delivered after it looked like it could have been a snoozer. Tom Fernelli, feel free to address. As we are here on this instant reaction show, brought to you by Modello. I guess I'll get my ASMR this week.

All right, there we go. Modello sponsors, all of our instant reaction shows here on the Cover Three podcast. We appreciate them. Tom, big little where it started, where it finished, what's on the top of mind is we are in the minutes after the conclusion of Texas storming back 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to win 24 to 23 against an Ohio State program. That bounced them in the college football playoff semi finals two years ago and down to them in the season opener last year, 14 to 7 little bit of revenge, little bit of breakthrough. I don't know. It's still very raw where you out with this one.

Show. Oh, we're going right to go in right to Game was won Game was won Game was won. You had a they were up 23 to 3 to start the fourth quarter and they lost. I mean full credit to Texas because that offense wasn't doing anything for the first two and a half quarter to that game. My initial reaction just watching it live. So much other stuff going on. It's all like you're paying 100% attention to it, but like the feeling I got was Sark was doing the thing where he was kind of trying to remote control large manning for the first two quarters.

Like he wanted him to be doing this this this this this and arch wasn't doing very well. And then I feel like in the second half kind of took the reins off a little bit and told arch just go play football and just kind of you know little archy football stuff going on. Got comfortable. He started making plays. He started playing better because arch was really bad. I feel like the first two two and a quarter quarter to this game. He was missing a lot of throws. And then like defensively I think we'll must champion deserves a lot of credit. And I was getting into arguments with some of our editors and slack about this who are just not very happy with the defensive game plan.

Ohio State scored 23 points seven of them came right off the first jump off a turnover on the first playing which had a very short field you really in reality held Ohio State to one touchdown and three field goals on the night you do that you did an excellent job. That defense kept Ohio or kept Texas in the game the entire night and gave the long horns offense a chance to do something in the fourth quarter to get back into the game. So yeah terrific come back by Texas a huge moment for Texas kind of feels like you know a monkey off their back that they haven't you know like a racist monkey that dances on a pole.

And that is a huge win for them. It's a huge win for arch. It's a huge win for everybody in Austin and if you're Ohio State you've got to be just completely days right now because you thought that game was one and then you just like got completely clowned in the fourth quarter. Yeah it's hard to use a word other than choke like you have to give credit for staying in the fight right like for really getting and bowing up when they were in the like a special like in the in the high red zone like Ohio State was in scoring territory.

Many times and they had to settle for fuel goals and like that that really is...

In the points if they had like if if saying puts the ball on the right shoulder in two of those in zone throws right or if they get one more catch this thing is probably out of reach also like in the end of game situation when when the Texas get the ball at the one. I really like.

How about this I right off the top I was wondering if he was taking the long game position of not going total crazy do everything perfect because this is week two.

How about witty of coach did differently if this was the college football play off. I mean I that's a pretty meaningful game like you when this that the chance you get a buyer home game is is you know like pretty decent in the play off I I just thank you played that wrong. You know like like if you let them score you have roughly two minutes and two time outs. You've moved the ball into fuel goal territory all night that has not been an issue for you now pushing in the end zone which you don't need to do right now that's been issue.

And you can probably tell me hey Texas would play it differently if they were essentially defending against fuel territory sure possibly but it's still more open field for those receivers to operate in I.

Yeah, I think that was bad honestly.

I give you a sandwich and actually played it bad to at the end or like hey we think that's our guys go out there and punch it out are we sure they're not going to jump off sides like I don't know I just I think that in general I understand the principle of the let them score school.

I just it. It rubs me the wrong way but that's what the chance there is is that they score touchdown on first and goal from the one.

Here you high. Yeah, like probably 80 something.

Especially because I mean.

How hot was it lost tonight like near 100. Oh, so it's probably higher than that because there's no fuel goal option right like they have to go for the touchdown so you're getting all four downs. And I.

Ohio State's defense was very gas like after like the first the final 22 minutes of the game I think Ohio State's defense was on the field for 80% of it.

And it's like 100 degrees in the end of the game like they were worn to held down. They should have led up score because like I was saying it should I understand your theory there but it doesn't make sense to me because if that was what his decision was that's an even worse decision. You still got no you still got row games against Iowa Indiana USC you've got to play Oregon you've got to play Michigan you can't sit there and be like I can afford to lose this game. No, I don't think it's an I can afford to lose and I'm not going to have this pinned on me in ways to another minute on this it was a straight thought it is like not even something that's on my note pad from this game so I don't I don't want this.

The school of let them score I'm just not on and that's across the board you know and so I get it I would have rather let can you out of Jackson go punch at the ball you know I would have said like go out there make a play like that's that's kind of a little bit where I'm at where I just mentally I would hope that my guys could go out there and. Do their best to be able to execute to the within the context of not letting them score if you get situation again I'm confident that you know let's score yes right all right so what about who a so Jeremiah Smith Jeremiah Smith Jeremiah Smith looks like he's going to take over this game looks like this game is all going to be about Jeremiah Smith is this a real thing that the rest of this Ohio state offense we're sort of struggling to grasp it who the other bananas are.

I thought saying was like okay but not amazing at times like the heat he had a lot of time to throw in some of these throws and made some good ones you know and.

In the red zone on all the queues is precise right they they've got a wide open one of that pop pass that that he over throws like that that's probably a game and. That's a layup you got to hit that. I'll say this correlation isn't necessarily causation but to your point. Ohio State is lost three of its last four games all right the only win was last week against. All state against Indiana Jeremiah Smith had eight catches for 144 yards against Miami he had seven catches for 157 yards tonight he had eight catches for 164 yards.

Yeah I mean it seems that they like the elite defense has seemed to have an idea of where we can't really stop him we're going to let him do what he's going to do but we're going to stop everybody else.

You may want to just throw to a more he had he had 11 yards of target.

Like just build the whole offense out of Jeremiah spent I like maybe leaning over just throw to him constantly I joking obviously but like I.

I thought but you know like did some decent things for them you know but like not enough right like he got open on that one pop pass now part of that's like it was scheme but like say and missed it you know I.

I this just comes down to they didn't score when they were in the scoring zone you know me like just going to these drives and like pan like this should be over you know like they're not really that attack saying around because they're up 20 points go on to the fourth quarter but. You know okay whatever on the first try that is quarter three and then that was a nice touchdown drive okay then they turn it over on down to the Texas 12 then they settle for a field goal at the Texas 12 then they actually punch it in all right then they have the punt from the Texas 39.

Which I thought was like a little crazy to be honest but at this at the you know also Texas offensive sucked until that point so I guess I don't stand like yeah like at that point Patricia had been a pretty nice job with the chalk then you kick a field goal drive in to the Texas 30 okay then you get down to the Texas 27 and you missed the field goal. Good night they have a muff punt to a thing in here somewhere. Oh yeah that was one of Texas is like that was a that was how Texas was able to get the easy score.

Yeah like that. Yeah yeah like we we've talked about we talked about it this week one of the biggest problems sarx teams have had are scoring in the red zone but just said it.

Well I was thinking had five red zone possessions left with 20 points Texas had four had 24 that one by a point Texas finished all their drives.

Right and is it worth considering that Ohio State's defense after being on the field for that long you mentioned the heat and everything else. Do you think it would play out like that again in a vacuum in a college football play off game in a bowl game. I mean they they play together pretty evenly like if you look at the whole game right so I don't know who would win. How many how many plays they defend like as Texas going to be full gold here from this win. This is this is like a Texas is going to play a better team than Ohio State this year no.

This is the third time they've played in three years and it's been to one score games and then the other one was a one score game until like a pick six or a fumble six at the very end.

Yeah these two teams are closely they're very close it's not like Texas is beginning to doors ball off it like Georgia blows the doors off Texas Ohio State hasn't.

Fun game yeah that's fair fun game I would about the arts part of this not great early. He was bad. Yeah he missed some stuff early they also had two pretty bad drops on him early. Yeah like Colman's got to catch that damn ball.

Yeah we're not paying you three million for whatever he's making you know to not not catch that one dude.

Come on. They were they were dropping balls and he was just missing guys like over the middle like deep on like the RPOs and saying was doing the same thing a little bit too. And some of those like they were pulling really quickly and just firing it over throwing guys by like five ten yards. It was it was not a well played game by either quarterback for this one although arch got his act together late and played much better. But I still if you go back and you grade the whole thing I would say this is like a seat performance.

Were you surprised by how like just I know Texas is a lot a lot of real stuff and a lot of you know window dressing and I can't. Are you surprised by how lateral they were early? I thought it was disappointing. Well I also like when they were doing it Ohio State was what like Ohio State's corners were way more physical than Texas received a lot. And eventually it's kind of got away from like okay like we got to just drop back see we throw the football like down the field a little bit. Right which ended up working out better especially when they started working better.

Yeah which is like hey let's go this way not this way. I'm sure it shows that if you don't block it all on screens. Yeah I mean you just because they do have some dirt bikes out there and dirt bikes aren't good perimeter blockers historically there are those who obviously can prove that otherwise but. Yeah I'm just the you thought this was going one way and then all of the sudden it all flipped the other fun fun game and now Texas is to put it in its back pocket.

I bet you won't hear Steve Starkesean talking about non-conference scheduling and something that they're just never going to do again right what wasn't that the coming down the stretch last year.

We're not going to be valued at our nine wins then we're just going to play ball state every year you know like something along those lines but now I think it will be a little bit more about let's let the results speak for themselves on the field.

Along those lines with what save and set on game day this morning.

I don't know what save and set on game day and I mean that honestly he said that some he said that some losses are better than some wins.

So I need to know what was more impressive here was it Texas's winner Ohio State's loss. Whoa. Are you asking me asking you both we're both we're all three of us are here. Okay what was more was God that was a good quality loss. God that was a good quality loss.

The proper the proper point on the road to a top five team and you covered that's a quality loss guys I think Ohio State should move up.

That is such a quality loss. I think we've got to find a way to bump the buck eyes up in the rankings. If we're going the true quality loss formula here. Crap I don't we just got to move them up.

I do think that was an awesome game it was not always a well played game but it was entertaining obviously with with with the swings.

We want more of those games right like. I know it's not really the committee's job to like dictate that like hey let's get more knockoffer's game scheduled but. They're pretty intertwined with like the power burgers of the sport like I would like to see them. You know now look if Ohio State goes and screws around and you know beats like a four and eight big 10 team by by one and then. Like like like and then it has to go over time with with two other crappy ones and you know then loses to a four and eight one in a game that wasn't really all that close like texted last year.

Then you know what no that should probably carry carry some weight and they should not make the play out. If they're you know in a tie return. But if they played pretty darn good football and they're sitting there with a one point Texas loss.

Then I think I'd be just pointed to see them you know like left out over that.

But the schedule so tough that it's just hard for me as a fan in the 2026 season to not think that Ohio State's not going to have the opportunities to prove that they're Ohio freaking state multiple times over against the rest of the schedule now to your point. Now we have the nine and three I think Ohio State is going to have it. Right. Uh, why? Why is pretty good here, but it's not perfect in this dressing room, so I missed exactly what you're doing. Are you in Brent Stover's dressing room right now?

No, no, but I might be where I Brent Stover's tie. Okay. Thanks, Brent. He said he set up but he said up but on the desk at one point great job today, but he was on CBS Sports Network been grinding all day. He set up but once with on your very popular podcast, which I appreciated as like the tee up.

I'm going to cover three right away. We're going to we're going to get some shout outs here like that you mentioned not watching that morning show. I would watch our CBS pregame coverage because we don't have much people yelling at each other and we don't have much people like kicking field goals for just it's more ball talk. If you're watching us out. I don't think they spend any minutes on the protect college sports act today.

No, it's true. There were no senators on HQ in lobby. Yeah, yeah. You think you like us, you probably like, you're probably somebody that wishes you had more like actual ball talk on some shows and you get that on. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. All right.

To be honest, to get the tailgate round up, I was watching soccer. I wasn't watching any pregame. Oh, yeah, Andy hates tennis. And tennis and tennis taking over taking over for the Oregon Oklahoma state game, which also got moved and then got moved again because you see if pit was in a weather delay and then got moved. chaotic day in college football lots to get to.

You see, it was like the worst being experienced the day by the way. Do you know what I said? And that rain. Oh, my God. I was like, yep. They angles going to touch sounds in this game, they used up all their touchdown tokens in the rain delay, you know, just no, thank you.

All right, coming up on the other side. Michigan, what to make of the Michigan Wolverines and their disjoined resume and Oklahoma. Are they still worth being a top 15, 20, 25 team, all that and more. Next. Back here on the coffee three podcast week two, is that reaction show brought to you by Modello and the Michigan Wolverines.

Uh, heard y'all talk. Right. Thunderwood came out.

Honestly, early, I thought it was going to be a big Bryce underwood sort of statement game and then he would, you know, offense and Bryce kind of went back to doing some of the same things that we saw in the opener against Western Michigan.

But if, if you just strip away the, um, you know, the ups and downs of this game against Oklahoma, where I think the Oklahoma offense might have be my biggest headline here.

But the Michigan Wolverines had a controversial last second bail Mary against Western Michigan.

Everybody bailed.

Now they come roaring back and they beat a sooner's team that we thought was among the 15 best teams in the country.

So, but we're later in the show. We're going to be re-ranked. I know you have to get back to the CBS Sports Network desk and your multi screen experience.

I'm sure that everyone's got the mothership on one of the screens. You'll be seeing but soon. We will be re-ranking the top 25 doing tomorrow's top 25 today here on the cup of three podcasts a little bit later. So we don't need to put a number to it. How do you wrestle the Michigan and Oklahoma's that we saw on Saturday and how it compares to your expectations of how these teams stack up against the rest of the country? I have a really hard time not keeping Oklahoma in the top 15 with how good that defense is.

Right. Like they're just going to get so many stops. And the offense is what it is. I think you have limitations on the offensive line, especially with one of the injuries they had. I believe you have to love tackle.

And the tears just like, you know, guys, he doesn't always look in the right spot.

You know, sometimes he throws a little late, right? And it's just like not always on. Like, I don't care how many workout videos he does or all this nonsense about how my throw emotions fix. It's like your throw emotions or throw emotion, man. Like show me the guys who have really truly improved their throw emotion at like 24 or 24 years old. You were going all the private quarterback coaches and a lot of stuff, but it's like, it is what it is.

Like, he's not a difference maker at quarterback. He's not terrible, but he's not special, you know, and we talked all offseason about how in the really big games. Michigan, or sorry, Oklahoma, Indiana, Ohio State, and Oregon for Michigan, which is a hell of a schedule. They have a real buffer game on the backside of all four of those games, right? You could run the absolute piss at a Bryce Underwood in those four games.

If you need to, and we talked about this, all offseason, I think this is a very different offense.

If you're given Bryce Underwood, 10, 12, 14 today, 16 carries. Like, and that's the ticket out of the sacs. I'm going to have 18 with 18 carries in. Like, I mean, and Oklahoma had two sacs. Like that, that just, that's what they had to do.

It's what they did. It wasn't pretty. The passing game is still nowhere close, but I think his legs kept Oklahoma from attacking probably quite as much as they wanted to. They had to play a little more flat-footed. They had to respect the QB run, so the misdirection stuff. And it's kind of weird to say, I thought Jason Beck called a hell of a game to score 17 points. But, honestly, I kind of think so.

Well, he had him off balance.

You know, like the first half.

Yeah, and the first half, he kind of had him guess and wrong and create and some open lanes for Marshall for Bryce. It was good. I would agree with that. And honestly, like, Michigan was kind of, this is where the passing game is. But they were kind of close to having a couple of big plays on the sidelines that were just like barely out of balance. You know, and those actually were some decent throws by Bryce.

So, if you tell me that by, like, you know, mid-October, this starts clicking a little more, I could buy that, I guess. But in the biggest games, because they have that cupcake or just by week or nobody on the backside, it's going to be, like, 2006 TBO style, with Bryce on the wood and I think it should be. And I think that was pretty obvious in the office. I just think he was going to work this well. After watching what we want.

It's, it's not a situation because, like, as you mentioned, like, the offense was good in the first half,

or at least compared to what it had looked like against Western Michigan. Had a plan, had a plan, it felt like they were about to step ahead. It felt like Oklahoma was a step slow, you know? And yeah, because they did change things up from Western Michigan. Clearly, they weren't doing anything last week that they were doing this week,

and they just really struggled last week, and it kind of nearly killed them. But then, you know, so they came out with something Oklahoma was not entirely ready for it. They were using Bryce more as they were running back and they were doing different things in the passing game. And then I felt like, from watching it at halftime, Oklahoma adjusted, you came out in the second half, and the Michigan offense was a nearly as effective, because now Oklahoma had planned for it and figured out how to stop it and slow it down.

Problem was that their offense just wasn't able to do anything in all day.

And that's what I said about Michigan last week, all as bad as the offense was, their defense looked fine.

And their defense looked fine again today. And it's weird because, like, bud said he wouldn't dock Oklahoma out of the top 15. And it's like, I feel like at this point, you're one and one, I can understand people knocking them out. And I would probably do it with such small sample size. But at the same time, the Oklahoma we saw today really wasn't any different than the Oklahoma we saw last year,

and that team got to the damn playoff. Right. They are great on defense.

That defense keeps them in every game.

And if material can make enough plays to win the game, they will win it.

And really, the entire offense revolves around John material, because the run game really didn't exist today when it wasn't John material. In the passing game, Rocky beers took Isaiah's attaining his role from last year, it's just being the guy running up the seam and hitting him on those little crossers. Like, it's the same offense as last year. It's just they changed some of the personnel and it has to really do everything.

And it's hard. It's really hard when you play other really good teams to win that way. Like, we saw when they got to the playoff and they played Alabama. They lost that game. Their offense was not good enough.

So this is a team that I'm not going to write off. Like, they can still get to the playoff. They could still have a really good season because that defense is so phenomenal. But, man, they then look very good today. Get your favorite Oklahoma fan in your life and find a way to provide them with the toolbox necessary for the anxiety that's going to come with this team.

Because the defense is going to have them in every single game.

And you're going to be waiting on John material to make the play for your team or the play for the other team in every single game.

I mean, that is going to be the playing with fire life of an Oklahoma fan. Because I agree with you.

Oh, by the way, keep Lewis going out with the right leg injury, right?

Is that correct? I don't know what leg was, but he got hurt. That's significant. That's an all-American caliber player who, you know, but then the we expect Oklahoma's defense to have a certain standard and there's all American candidates all around.

But he was one of them. And so that was at least something that did not have a factor on the game and should definitely be something monitored moving forward. I just, I think that we'll get to the right. The ranking stock is a little bit later and a little bit more, I think, some mantics on this. I expect Oklahoma will have opportunities to win games against quality opponents to boost their stock or resume or whatever else it is.

But it is going to come down to whether John material makes a play for their team or the other team. And today it was for the other team. It was a bad pick in the wrong spot at the wrong time. I mean, there's a really good team. Don't be surprised.

Go ahead, Tom. Don't be surprised if it's the same exact story for Michigan all year. It's going to come down to whether Bryce under would make a good play for the team or a bad play for the team. All right. Now, if you're Michigan, do you run them against Penn State?

And just basically, well, but Indiana's the week after.

I need to win Penn State. Right. I think so too.

Yeah, I think it's, if I have to, if I have to punt the Indiana game, I'll punt the Indiana game.

I think it's probably because Penn State and pray. Yeah. Yeah. Let's see. So Oklahoma's defense, Oklahoma's offense.

The bit in our buckle story is not paid out as I thought it would going into last season. No. Yeah, material crossing him some money. For sure. He also chose material.

Right. And came with it. So he kind of knew what he was getting into. And he's what he is. Like I, he's a good runner tough guy.

And extremely funny college football result. No doubt. To have Michigan, we talked about that. I think even in big game breakdown, like wouldn't it be funny if Michigan wins low, ugly, like low scoring games, something that looks just like the Western Michigan game.

And then they just become this team. Like they can't keep getting away with this type team. Yeah.

We also said that this is about the only way Michigan can conceivably win this.

Yeah. You know, control the ball, run it, let material throw it to you. Like that's a horrendous pick he throws. Like you just can't, you can't miss that bad at that late. We know it the next logical step is here, right?

Based on today's results. Oh, I'm on the beach Texas and red river. Oh, yes. I said in alarm, just like you did for the Kentucky under. Which looked like it was dicey, but I was still able to get.

Thanks to Culin Russell and the Alabama defense that might still be good. We need to set an alarm for Oklahoma wins red river because that's the way this goes. 100%. They can also start to in three. Yeah.

Like that's. That's probably the most likely result actually. Shh. All right. Anything else there?

Yeah. Because the plate Georgia before Texas ever got. Yeah. They've got to get the Suzy back. Because Georgia will smoke that kid they had in there today.

Yeah. Like that. They. Yeah. Okay.

Alright. But before you let the luck tackle. I think I have a little more time because it doesn't really make sense for me to head back. Half like I'm not doing the half time for. Uh, sex state and Fresno.

So I'm just going to jump in. We're going to record all this stuff after that. It's done.

Okay.

All right.

Well, you don't need to pull back the curtain at minute 31.

That's 30 to get a statement.

But I was looking at the sex state Fresno. So I was like, I was trying to get you back in time for Mike checks before half time. But if you're good there, then I'm still. I'm still Mike. So I'm double Michael.

Look at that. Oh gosh. Well, like luckily. But double Mike. Double fist.

Let's go. You're a nice man. Like big Apple. Big Apple. You guys want to hear.

But diagnose what's wrong with Oregon. Or do you want to hear what talk about the Thompson. And I'll send from Park's looking today. Bro, I got sparrow. I'm I'm slowing it at the courtyard.

Not the Thompson because I got to be in my 75 nights. Uh, so I can well. No free ads. But if I get that, then I get the lifetime titanium.

So you always get the 4 o'clock check out.

So I don't have like, you know, you can go to the beach.

You go to the beach. But yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. For sure. Or watch check out for life is nice. Hey.

But what's wrong? Oh, I got. I do have some tea for you. Like when we hit commercial break about another place we're staying now. Okay.

All right. It's good. What's wrong with the Oregon ducks? But. Okay.

I thought like first game they were really fine. And today it just looks stagnant. Like, there's not a lot of easy access throws being created for Dante. Everything looks like kind of stale. I.

It's two games. So maybe I'll have like an idiot for saying this. But like, they did all the time. Uh, we sure we should have promoted internally. Oh, he got asked about it in the post game press conference.

You're not sure. You're not. You're not. You're not tiptoing around something that people are not diving. He first into there.

There is no second guess in this.

This is the headline. It feels like for frustrated ducks fans who are looking on the field. And they're like, okay, the players are the same. But it doesn't look like they're doing the same successful things. What's changed from this team?

Yeah. Deep. And look. It's easy to second guess. Right.

Like having a guy on staff recorded an awesome. You know, who was helping coach and awesome often last year. Like, it's probably okay process the result just so far sucks. Compared to what you think it should be. Um, defensively, organs not a real heavy blitz team.

And so you do have to kind of give your front a little bit of time to get home. And there's like so many just open guys like 10 and 12 yards down the field. Consistently. And then also, you unfortunately ran into the version of Mr. Maker that leaves People like Pete.

They're able to say, hey, you can be the number overall pit. Like, Mr. Maker ball and played his ass off to it. Yeah. And like when you're giving them some layups, like quite a few layups. And then also he's making just like the laser throw down the field.

And running for a hundred. And your offense is scoring the 30s when it probably should have put a 50 burger up against that. Oklahoma State defense. You lose. And now Oregon like I.

I ran my playoff simulator. I literally didn't do it with the playoff right. I need to worry about getting like a stop on defense. That's one of the guests going to be there. They are more of rare is not big.

Unless Oklahoma State runs off and it's all of a sudden like 11 and one type team, which I don't think they will be. They better get it gear in hurry, or this this has kind of the like the. Pensive last year vibes or the Matt Barclay come back to USC vibes. Remember that year? Oh yeah.

2010. Is that right? That's the team to start with number one and finish done running. Yeah. Different USC team.

Yeah. 2009, 2010. We're in that range right there. You, I thought, didn't you tweet the Penn State? This is get it.

This is Penn State vibes. There's maybe even early in the game. I put it in a group chat. That's like. And then you've got Dante more and the Drew Aller comps.

You know, and you've just got. The media day darlings, we know all these guys. All these guys are awesome interviews. All these guys are so exciting. I hate I hate it for the ducks that we've got that example just last year to be able to lean on.

But I don't think they lost to number 21 Stanford and. Then they went on the lose five games. The 2010 USC 2012, actually. Um, the bar clay team. Yeah. I thought that was earlier too.

This bargain soft. On the last image. They were soft today. They were soft last week against Boise State. We talked about this defensive line as being maybe the best in the country.

How much did they pay in those guys, bud, like a billion dollars like that?

You know how many tackles for loss organ head today? One. One tackle for loss against an Oklahoma State team that lost the Tulsa last week. Oklahoma State had four sex organ didn't have a damn one.

Without their style of tackle.

Uh-huh. We knew the offensive line might look kind of shaky early because they were placing a bunch of guys. They were placing both tackles and damn it. It does look shaky early. I thought the defensive line was going to be really, really good.

It has not been. It was okay last week. Once Boise had to start dropping back every single down and they could pin their ears back.

They were able to finally get after the quarterback last week.

Today they did it. They did get their hands up and bet some passes which led to interceptions. So that's good. But they are not getting the quarterback off of his spot. And it is hard to be an elite defense, which is what they are built to be.

If you are not getting the quarterback off of his spot. Offensively. Bud Senate needs a hundred percent, right? There's nothing easy access for Dante more right now.

Their whole offense relies on somebody making a spectacular play.

Nothing is on time, nothing is really going as it's supposed to. Unless the receiver makes a great play. And then juke some guys or break some tackles where the running back juke some guys and break some tackles. It's not working. So I don't know if Dan needs to fire his coordinators or needed to hire elsewhere.

What he does need to do is they need to get their crap together because it's not going to get any easier. Oklahoma State was not the toughest team you're going to play all you. Yeah, I mean look.

Like there's a couple of C-hires. This is the soft season that looked terrible, right?

Like Mary and Jordan, God, see a Georgia Tech. Like unless something really changes, those are one-year tangers. Like you can't roll that out again unless you have massive changes.

I will say we're going to have like a hundred yards of drops in the first half today.

Like we're probably still talking about an Oregon look look sketch. And I think it's very sketch in a different way they did last week. If they catch those balls, but you might be talking about a win. They, oh yeah, because at the end of the game, the margins were right there. It took, it took Drew Mr. Maker getting helicoptered to be able to, to be able to get Oklahoma State across the finish line here because Oregon made its charge.

Oregon did the thing that the top team does when you wake up after half time and you come out in the second half and you come back and you win the game. But it was just still not tight. It was just not crisp. And it was the same thing from the beginning on and look.

If you want to do the excuses explanation thing, they had the long delay and just like everybody else.

It was hot and it was humid and they did just look like they didn't have it. You know, they just didn't have the gas in the tank today, which excuses explanations is costly as hell. Because now you've got a bad loss like you said, but unless less Oklahoma State runs off and overcomes their own bad loss and wins the big 12. Then you've got a loss to a team that may or may not even be ranked by the time that the great college football playoff selection committee starts gathering together to bless us with their new top 25s on Tuesdays.

I mean, this game was closer than it should have been. I mean, honestly, I think last week was closer than it should have been in the opposite direction. You know, like the they were out game by like, what 250 250 yards. Yeah, yeah, like this was not a super competitive game by by Oregon. A hearty, congratulations to Eric Morris. This was your home opener as Oklahoma State's coach that I know you had a lot of Oklahoma State fans at at the Tulsa game that you lost not great.

But to be able to win your home opener against a top 10 opponent to have them rush the field to have them take down the goalpost to have them be able to, you know, really take this in as a true like put the past behind us and let's move forward. If you're watching along on YouTube dot com slash covered 30. Round them strike or Scott the goalposts going into water.

Yeah, there was water and still water. Oh, wait, that's why it's name.

Oh, watch out. Oh, my guy struggle to get that thing up. Yeah, somebody's a camp. Somebody got in the goalpost to the back of the head because some of this arm day like they tried to throw they tried to throw that and it came short and just wallet somebody. Oh, man, she normally some people get concussion among other things. Hey, anything else from the Oklahoma state other this was what we were promised this is is what we were sold what else was connected or not connected from the loss to Tulsa. I mean, if if they play like that and again, that's probably their a game.

I would assume that the out game working by 250. Like, there's not a big 12 game they can't win. And, you know, BYU kind of did their BYU thing, but they did it in their BYU fashion like if master makers are going to throw the ball like that.

That things why it open again.

I think the big 12 is why it's held up. Yep. We will get to Texas Tech BYU and more and a little bit yes on one last thing on this game we mentioned earlier.

The way that they were moving this game around that worked in that work.

I tweeted about it striker if you've got the tweet and you could throw it up. I just I'm not going to out anybody because I'm not that kind of guy. Just wait and not striker here. Striker. Give me one sec. Just keep going. It'll it'll get there. Wow.

All right. So anyways. I was kind of critical about ESPN.

I'm down top. I was kind of critical about ESPN. I made the joke about them moving this game for tennis. I said the country is done. And I made another tweet about like how, you know, this might be one of the biggest upsets of the year. And ESPN's moving it around like a game of 3 card money. And I'm not going to out anybody. But if you are an ESPN employee and you like this tweet, I just want you to know we like to learn to learn.

They're about 10 of you. So maybe you guys should get together. Yeah, like, so private. Tom's the only one who's talking. Not outing you, but I'm saying maybe you guys need to band together and talk to the bosses about what should be taking priority on a college football center.

Um, I think I have full trust that Josh Pate will get this corrected.

I've been told, you know, but by him, that they're recognizing that a college ball is the number two sport in the country by the end of fell now. And I'm sure there's just a temporary glitch in the matrix. Also, man, I had a tweet do like 8,000 likes say. And Tom has that banker for 12,000 like. Dude, so that happens to be the number one college football personality.

That's right. Hey, for everybody else, play for second.

Was it you? I'm going to get, I'm going to get bumper tennis. No, no, no, no, no, no, no one media personality. Just just, just the, the print studio 43 over there, you know, and just just just just just dealing with a lot over here. We're big time. Um, we will get to, again, the ranking simplification of this a little bit later, but I've looked this up for the tomorrow's top 25 on the site.

Anyone want to guess how long Oregon has been inside the top eight of the AP top 25 pole. Wow, um, over a thousand days. It's been at least three years. Yeah. It's about, yeah, it's October 2023.

Yeah, they started the three years. Yeah, they started the 2023 season.

The 15th climbed the way up to like eight or so. The loss, that was the loss to Washington. Remember when I would go forward again.

Um, and then a little bit later on got back up inside. So yeah, this will be a, this will be new territory. We've had a certain amount of expectation for day and landing in this Oregon team.

This is really what the book was always the only people he loses to win the national championship or play for it.

Um, this was a little startling and a little unnerving and hopefully for day and landing that's the end of the Penn State comparisons. You know, that call until night this week will not be comfortable. Well, I mean, he's wearing the Nike shoes that I'm sure are very comfortable. As long as he got this feet on that buy out. We'll be okay.

All right. Coming up on the other side. Okay, we, we, we will discuss should we retire lock infinity. All that and more next. The weight is over football is here and so is draft Kings.

Back.

I do think I just keep it very close on this on the sack for as no halftime. Last week against USC jail and mandate all the president quarterback 715 for 77 and a pick. Not against sack state. I mean, it is remarkable remarkable a little sack state will do for for your quarterback's life. Okay, so for those unaware of the show lore here and I don't expect you to know it, but we have on our locks podcast, a lot of agreement, a lot of unity and if all four of us happen to be on the same pick, which again, we don't show to each other.

At all before the show, it is deemed a lock infinity and three years ago.

We came out here and there was a lock infinity of everybody jumping on TCU laying nearly three touchdowns against Colorado in the very first game of the coach prime arrow in Boulder.

And he was able to laugh at us as he came up to the microphone and said, "Oh, no, no, no, I ran through that bullet junkie wrote that I ran through that I sent it through all that." And when we were alerted to the fact that we had reached a lock infinity in real time, that we had not had a lock infinity since that horrific Colorado outright as a 20 and a half point underdog, we were like, "Oh no, we'll certainly, certainly Iowa will be strong enough and Iowa State."

The number hadn't caught up to Iowa State. That's what it was. The number had not caught up to what Iowa State was.

And Tom even took his record books and threw them out. He said, "Look, you got to throw out these record books, but I'm telling you, even with the record books thrown out, Iowa is still gonna roll." All agreed. Buzz Lightyear came out. It was a lock infinity. And unfortunately, it came crashing down.

Congrats to Iowa Holocaust on the rivalry win first win against the cyclones in Kinnick Stadium since 2018, but Striker, I believe you've got a little, little something for us as well.

Okay guys, lock greener. Oh, keep it going! Oh, infinity and beyond. Oh, voice. Congrats to the Hawkeyes, though. They avoided disaster, because I tell you what, on a day that it looked like everybody was spilling their oatmeal. It certainly seemed like I was gonna burn its feet, too.

So, I think Brandon Hanson has a great point.

Okay, Brandon Hanson, let's go. Wrong computer. There we go. It would have hit if Danny didn't get involved. If we just left it as a unity, we're winning. Maybe. Maybe, Danny's record unlocked this year? No, I mean, I know I'm not doing great either. Well, if you're doing better than Danny.

So, Mr. No, I did you see how I missed the Iowa first half?

Yeah, it was a pig six, and that was good, and they came back and said his foot, like the pinky toe was on the side of it. They haven't stayed in any way. Iowa wins the Si Hawke offense, bottled up. Do we give the hair on fire, credit to Jimmy Rogers? We're just having this team ready to go, or is there some real alarming stuff to be taken away as we move the Hawkeyes forward? Both. Yeah. Yeah, I thought I was taking coach sir as hard. I started thinking, they kept the Iowa defense. I didn't score a lot of points, but they kept them up balanced somewhat.

It felt like we get some first downs, hold the ball, just kind of move the ball around the field a little bit, you know, punt it. I would just, man, like, not run the ball. They were getting pushed around up front. I think they couldn't run the ball. Oh my god, that's not good.

That is not good. That's how that's your Iowa thing. That's supposed to be your thing.

Yeah, I genuinely, it's one game. It could change really quickly, but like, I have more faith, and I was receivers than I do their running backs at the moment. Oh, like, Tony Diaz is a legitimate kind of playmaker for them at receiver.

Come on, Martin, he has, I mean, he's not bad, but I don't, I don't know if c...

And I think that I was head as best when they have not necessarily guys going to run for 80 or touchdowns all the time like Caleb Johnson did.

But like, I just don't think he was, I don't think he was good tonight. That's for sure, but I don't think his offensive line was good either. So it was problematic. I don't, I don't know if he's capable of making it happen if it's not there for him. And that's could be a problem for them going for it. Also, thank Brown. Like, all things considered wasn't terrible, but he just wasn't good enough. And then on the other side. Failing Rainer had made some plays. I was, like, Iowa State's offense three was not overly impressive. They just, they scored the 13 points.

They were able to slow down that offense enough. And then just in the end, they didn't have enough to keep them from getting that feel goal late to win it.

And it's just, yeah, I don't, you have to give credit to Iowa State for keeping this thing close, but I don't really think either of these teams look very impressive.

So it was pretty classical, as a go. I love classical.

The, I felt like I was looking up for a lot of Jalen Rainer scramble drills, you know, where he did like 20 yards of running in the past was for six yards to a tight end to it just been like made himself open. The, the run game, as you were talking about the fact that this was a, this was an Iowa defensive front that was the one kind of unanswered question here. And I thought Iowa State ran the fall well, you know, or at least, relatively in any lower scoring game ran the ball effectively enough to get the game to where they had a shot to win this.

They did not make the plays they needed late. I mean, there was a little bit of this where it fell like it was sliding away from him, but the fact that they put themselves in the position. You know, there's, there's no moral victories in a rivalry game, but certainly it's, I will say this. We were on this program multiple times suggesting the idea that Iowa State is the worst power conference team. I'm not ready to back that up right now.

So, I am ready to walk that back reconsider and begin a more healthy debate to go into Kinnick and to bring that kind of effort, that kind of performance.

Like sometimes the different, when we're talking about the worst, no, if you're, if you're being able to raise your level of play beyond what the level of talent is on paper, you're not the worst. You know, there's, there's some level of better that you are even with teams that are down there in that bottom tier. We'll see where Iowa State goes from here. I'll need more data, but I don't know, but what's on your note, Pet. Yeah, I think, like, I just wrote down, Jimmy Rogers might be a pretty dang good coach. You know, like, has had some tough situations and, you know, did well enough to land a P4 job and, like, they're not going to want to hold much games, but that was, that was a game effort by them.

Yep. Let's start to, let's, well, 55 minutes in, let's start to open this thing up, let's take it around the country. How about Camario Taylor, fella, the nation got to it, got to know a very, very fun electric playmaking quarterback from Mississippi State. He was starring early against Minnesota, Mississippi State did a great job of getting control of this game and really setting themselves up to be able to cruise to a win, something that literally zero teams did against Minnesota in their house last season.

So hat tip to Jeff Levy into the Bulldogs should be able to get this done. Yeah, bleak scenes inside in Minneapolis, oh, no CBS words credit here on the last last last ones who are there. But what do you, I'm, I'm passing the hat right now because you, that you're going to need a whole lot of money to keep him to start rolling out here. We can't ship him out of Starkville. No, I think you're going to put himself in for a moment. I'm saying, keep, like, hey, start planning right now.

Like, you know, I'm wearing a tie, right? Like, hey, you know, early financial planning is the key to success.

And if you realize you have an asset that you need to make sure you plan for, yeah, he was great.

Like on that first drive, I was like, oh shoot, those tackles are getting pushed back hard, and they still managed to score.

And I was like, he didn't even need to be Superman today. And honestly, like Minnesota didn't score enough to where he had to be Superman. But he basically was Superman. Like, that was a really awesome effort. You know, I was sitting with Kevin Carter watching. I just, you don't see guys that are built like this have, like, such clean mechanics. I mean, accurate. He's got touch on it. Like, he can scoot.

Yeah, I, I, I feel really good about most of my SC quarterback rank is in the preseason. You know, having a tier and, and reading, like tomorrow needs to be on that though. Like, he's, he's, he's top happening as you see, easy now. I think I have to just that game.

Damn efficient, too.

Like, I mean, over 10 yards an attempt, 16 to 22, even the run game, he rushed for 86 yards average six and a half yards per carry.

Like, that was just a very thorough offensive performance for Mississippi State to go on the road in that situation. A program that is just not accustomed to being successful and having that kind of, you know, performances. They've looked like a team that is used to it. Like, they didn't look like there was any learning curve there. They looked out. They came out there. It's that, yeah, no, we're the better team here. Let's go handle our business and go home.

And that's precisely what they did. They're very impressive. Which is super impressive considering how many new faces are there. Because while Camario Taylor came on late, this is, as we've detailed here, and a real, like, build around Camario effort. Where, I mean, but I don't want to put words in your mouth because I'm ever heard you say it recently. It's the boomer bust, right?

Yeah. That's sort of the profile of a lot of the guys they brought in. And on this day, they were all locked in and they were booming. And it was a, there's a, there's a good somebody. That's where I'm at with Mississippi State that they play too many of the good teams for me to think they're really going to like, challenge for the SEC title or anything.

But they're going to ruin someone's season because of that quarterback and the confidence that that team showed here in this spot. Agreed. Yeah. Like that. That's, he's just awesome. Um, like a Minnesota's not great, but they don't suck. And like, they've been very good at home. Like, that's a really impressive win.

Yeah, even, they've won like, they've had winning records in big tent level last three years. They're like, I mid tier big tent team. And they just lost to a team that's been two and twenty two in the SEC last three years. Yeah, I mean.

It's right. Like, so it says, but keep it, keep saying this if you say it was beer bust in the portal. What if it's all boom? What if it is all boom?

That's why I said we don't. Oh, we say it. You're not going to believe this guy's, but the thing about boomer bust is it could be boom? Or it could be bust. Or it could be somewhere in between. You don't know.

Um, I, the dumbest thought that I had today was looking at the SEC big tent scoreboard. And then also considering the networks they were on.

Um, like, on the first you had the, it's like, oh, Michigan defended home turf on Fox.

Then it's like, oh, I'm going to start a light one. Get away. I mean, it's like, oh, Texas, okay, they defended home turf on, but on the SEC's day. Yeah, on this one. So I guess the SEC ends up claiming match up to match up three SEC big 10 good day for SEC. Mississippi State done change the college football play off picture necessarily in the same way that like Oregon dropping.

For example, it's good to picture you know, there's, there's some other pieces there that I think, you know,

if you wanted to nitpick at Penn State's performance, for example, maybe even though they lost with Oklahoma at the very beginning of the day. As we're sitting here on the instant reaction show feels like it was a good day for the South Eastern conference. And Mississippi State's win on in Minnesota was definitely a part of that. Oh, totally. Yeah, I, I mean, not only guests is guaranteed to get five and now because Oklahoma did, you know, they lost in Michigan. But I think it's a pretty damn good day for this. Like Texas lose, Texas had continued to just crap the bed like they had been.

That would have been a pretty bad day regardless of the Oregon or something. If it had finished 26 to three and know how you stayed just like added another field goal or if, excuse me, if the field goal had gone in. The whole right.

The 40 was a third. I don't have that right now.

What was it like 43 yarder, right, that it just sort of punched it and it hooked. Yeah, that's when the 27 right. So yeah. Yeah, could have been, but ultimately, that's where it settles. All right, let's keep it. I mean, you got the SEC played seven games against power for conferences this week.

Assuming the Arkansas Utah game continues to go the way it's going. They went to say something. They went five and two, bringing them to eight and two on the season. The big ten played eight games against power for opponents this week. It went two and six. Like the SEC, like the big ten with Oregon and Ohio State both losing.

Like, I don't know that three teams is guaranteed for the big ten anymore. Yeah. We got somebody else to get in though.

The thing about a 12 team playoff is you have to put 12 teams in there.

And you're only big 12 teams. But you're only as good compared to your peers. Like, you can say someone's not a top 10 team because you in your mind have an idea of what a top 10 team looks like, but that changes from year to year. I mean, you could, you could all ask backwards into a top 10 spot.

The way that things are, especially with the way that the team seems to be separated this year, with that break maybe in that like six seven eight range more so than at the 10 11 12 range.

Another winner of this, not in the SEC, not a day.

With their top 12 claws, like we had debated in the offseason, can they get in a ten and two right now? I think like we generally thought probably, especially when you factor in the brand name and the fact that they didn't get in last year. I think they got to be feeling great getting in a ten and two now. If they, I don't think they're going to go ten and two, but like if they did, you know, drop two games. I think that would be feeling awesome.

I feel in Russell and Alabama, just flip the switch on Kentucky. That's what 3826, baby.

That's what Oregon should have done, right?

You know, like, oh, you're messing around. Okay, well, now we're going to get this and now we're going to like stack it. Now we're going to make it turn into a snowball. Now we're going to create doubt in the stands. Like, yes, 45 to 17, greatly does not represent how tight this game was at one point.

But even if they hadn't been able to tack on the the last touchdown at 38 to 17, I thought it did represent what was a defensively being an opportunistic and taking advantage of the Kentucky mistakes. And then Killing Russell's playmaking. I don't, I think the distance again, what would we make of Alabama, Tom, you're not in your head.

I'll let you get first word here.

I mean, Killing Russell wasn't great early and then he played great in the second half. I think that's a story of Alabama and I think this game is a very good reflection. For me, if what my feelings were about Kentucky going into the year and that I think will Stein's a very good coach. And I think that he can scheme them up in matchups like this.

It's just in the long run. I don't think this Kentucky team has the horses to compete with the top of the SEC in 2026. And that was like, I feel like this was their season playing out over four quarters. Yeah, what? Early on Kentucky, like, state ahead of the chains.

Recently, like, they weren't scoring a whole lot. Obviously, like, they're deep on score. But they weren't, like, getting into, like, in really bad situations. In the second half, I've been a clamped some of that, like, easy access screen stuff. And Kentucky faced a lot more, like, third and seven plus.

And they're offense in, like, obvious passing downs when you don't have the threat of the screens and the play action stuff was a disaster. I mean, like, they didn't move it at all. They didn't do it. Like, families just clamped it and you just can't give Keylon, like, that many bites of the app.

I don't, I don't think that I have changed my lack of confidence in Alabama.

I think I remain very wary of their ceiling.

That's fair. That's fair. Yeah. That's well said. Like, they can turn it on.

Their talent is so high at very important positions that they just have individuals, that can turn it on you. And I do think that the defensive side of this is interesting and, like, Kain Wamik has kind of become a character that, you know, might have a bigger story in the Kail Indibor era than we realize.

Did y'all catch that, you know, he was dropping the Nick Sabin and I were going over some stuff before the year. Did you catch that narrative? No. I've seen that out there, yeah.

Yeah. And it's just, you know, this, with that in my head, I was watching this and I was just remembering those, there's 2015 Bama teams.

And I know we're talking about different standards here,

but just the teams that it wasn't always clean,

but they just had so much talent. They scored the defensive touchdowns and they came up with the stops. And it's just, you could let Jalen Hertz act like a running back as a true freshman because you had Jonathan Allen in Daron Paine and just a Sean Robinson and all these monsters.

And eventually Eddie Jackson was going to run a puntback or, you know, something like there was just the talent level was so high that eventually someone was going to do something special. And while Alabama has its consistency issues, they have a lot of special players.

And when those individuals break out, they can take over a college football game. Give me a drive to check you had over 35 yards today. One, three, I don't want one. And I said, I don't think I was made.

Because then I guess field positions set up, because there's one defensive score. So there's one touchdown. Yeah. That field position.

They had one good drive. The 13 for 83. After that, nine to 33, 13, negative 4, 9, 3, 18, 18, good night. Which is a big wish.

They're calling me. I got a jump. Okay. So Buds gone, let's talk about Marcel Reed. He was great.

Oh, my way. He jumped on Marcel Reed. Yeah, this is a good lesson. Early on. I was like, dude, we can't be like bounce pass in the ball.

This is football. Let's get it to him in here. And then like final 20 minutes. I mean, I know they had some guys open,

but like they guys open the first half.

He actually hit them in the second half.

I thought he settled down and played like a lot better. Like if he plays like the final 20 minutes for a full 60 minutes, A&M is really dangerous. Okay. All right.

Good luck. Catch him on CBS Sports Network on one of your other screens. As you're watching us live here, as we hit 12 26 AM Eastern time here on the East Coast. Time at one point.

There was a discussion that maybe Danny would be joining us. I'm glad to make it. That did not happen.

What did you make of a feisty and frisky start for the Sun Devils at the beginning of this game?

And I think they finished out gaining them overall. Yeah. Plus three in the turnover margin for Arizona State. Some so back breaking mistakes. I mean, it kind of, you know.

It looks like you pick sixes. Yeah. Yeah. It kind of, it's like Arizona State was over-served. You know, kind of.

That never happened to Arizona State.

There's no such thing as being over-served in that on that campus. But they were there. They needed to get taken out. And it was, you know, good, good showing from the Sun Devils.

I think that it's made me get a quality loss.

Unfortunately, as a top five theme of this episode. But I'm going back into the big 12 looking at Arizona State as much more of a picture in that race than I might have considered two weeks ago. Quality 28 point loss. No, I agree with you. I think for, well, first I'll start by saying Texas A&M looked very good.

Marcel Reed is bud touchdown started really poorly.

Got his act together in the second half and played much better.

Looking far more like the guy we saw last year early in the season than we saw towards the end. Defensively like they had, let's see. They finally got some that they only had one sack. But they had five tackles for loss. They were more disruptive today than they had been.

And then, you know, just getting the two pick sixes, obviously. The concern for me for Texas A&M is they weren't really able to run the ball. And especially like it got better as the game went along. But I was genuinely concerned by what I saw from their offensive line kind of getting pushed around a bit by Arizona State. And for me, if I'm an SCC team, I remember what this team looked like last year.

That wasn't something you typically saw on a regular basis. Like their defensive eye was nasty, their offensive eye was good. Did not see the same thing for most of this game. But on the other side is going to Arizona State. Yeah, we touched on them when we were talking earlier about Oklahoma State.

I think the big 12 is wide the hell open.

And I think Arizona State did some things in this game before it really snowballed in the fourth quarter that like you said. Makes me think this team is live in the big 12. Like once they get into conference play, I'm not sure who's in that league that these Sun Devils can't beat.

If they play the way they did for the first three quarters of this game.

On a day where we saw LSU played with its food against Louisiana Tech before finally being able to hit the gas. And maybe that's just a little bit of a sandwich spot between that massive Clemson opener. And of course, the trip to Ole Miss on a day where or a weekend where Missouri was very impressive. You know, I think in there when being able to pull away from Kansas, Alabama has that showing Oklahoma loses. How do you kind of see that the SEC that range of the SEC stacking up right now?

Well, I mean, I'm not asking for like your resin. Like I'm not asking you to fill out a ballot, but just the way that you look at it. Like where do you draw the lines or are they all one big jumbled tear? I, I've typically like overall, not not saying anybody's been like George has been perfect. Okay, George is the one team that has been perfect. I did not see any afforded today. They played Campbell. I'm assuming they looked perfect too, but I'm not kind of, you know, whatever for it.

But generally, I think everybody in the SEC looks good except for Van B. Arkansas and Kentucky right. Like, I'm offering. Auburn look good today. Now they didn't hit my team total for me, which I'm not exactly thrilled about. But that game was delayed. I'm not sure why, so maybe there was some weird vibes there, but they looked much better today than they did against Baylor, but you'd expect that they were playing so they're missed. But they looked decent. So I, I don't think Auburn's a bad team. I don't know if Auburn I'm picking them to finish in the top third of the league.

But I think that there's somebody who's going to be in that middle tier who's going to be able to get to a bowl of might finish with a winning record in conference play, but it's just, yeah, overall. I've been impressed with everything I've seen from his conference. It's really hard to separate him. I think the top tier is clearly still Georgia, Texas after that win today. And then you're still kind of fighting in Scotland for that third fourth fifth spot, but yeah, there's a lot of teams. I think that actually have a legitimate shot to be getting into that area this year.

Georgia, Notre Dame, Indiana, all just kind of checking, checking boxes out here and anything stand out as a top tier headline for you.

Just from those three.

Or this whole, like, can't cover a 38 points. Yeah. And he said, all right. 70 points. Okay. I'll go if you guys really just need to see me dog walk teams that I'm far better than that I will go dog walk some teams that I'm better and there I put 70 points on the board. Does everybody happy? Maybe we'll get more highs when folks are right. Notre Dame just, that was what I thought was going to look like against rice.

And to be clear, Notre Dame won 52 and nothing and they really just did not do anything in the second half.

It was 42 and nothing at halftime. Like, they scored on like their first six possessions completely dominated that game and then Indiana versus Howard, 55 and nothing. But same story is in the end, Notre Dame pretty much. They dominated the game in the first half and they just took the second half off.

Like, they're doing what you're supposed to do in those games. Would you rather have Gunner Stockton or John Matier?

Gunner. Uh-huh. Although I would, I think if you put John Matier on Georgia, they'd be pretty similar because of the offensive line. And play make, I mean, I don't even know if you can say playmakers. I don't know. We'll see. Oh, let's let Georgia play some more games before we get that in. Would you rather have Austin Simmons or John Matier?

Austin Simmons. Austin Simmons.

Austin Simmons. Good. Austin, like, the zoo fans were getting so pissed off at me because I was like having a great time with Kansas quarterback. Isaiah Marshall, but they didn't seem to understand that what I love about Isaiah Marshall is that he's insane. And not literally anything is capable of happening anytime Kansas snaps the ball and he has it in his hands. You do not know what is going to happen. And that is a lot of fun.

But Austin Simmons was phenomenal. Like he was ripping some throws in that game. He looked legit as hell as into like man. The only reason he wasn't able to get back on the field last year was because Trinidad was just ball it out.

But no, like, Mizzou's passing game looks terrific. And the run game looks like it always does. I think Mizzou is a legitimate kind of dark horse in the SEC right now going the rest of the way.

It looked so good coming out of his hand. You're like, Oh, yeah. He was a pitcher.

He was a major league baseball talent. And he was just, he was dialed. You know, Kayden Lee obviously makes the transfer with him from Ole Miss. Donovan Alubade, who I told you about on Thursday in the Lockspot. He had a couple huge catches as well. They are just out there cooking. And do you know who's having a ball with it right now? Um, Garrett Riley for all the conversation that we've had about the higher of Chip Lindsay. Oh, it's still Eli's staff. This that at the other Garrett Riley's over there too.

And I saw him in Austin, you know, just just just having some chuckles on the sideline as they're just sort of pouring it on late. You know, Eli obviously given the green light for all the reasons that Eli said in the many different media appearances that he had after the game. But um, maybe it wasn't Garrett's fault as Clemson's sticks. I was about to ask you. As I said, you think Garrett's chuckling right now is he's watching Clemson was 16 points late in the fourth quarter against Georgia Southern.

And like celebrating the Georgia Southern just missed a field goal that would have cut it to one score. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, this is, these are the, he was, he was clearly the problem. He brought in Chad Morris and now the energies back. They got the right kind of vibe in that locker and they just didn't have it. We didn't have it. We can get a Riley the last few years, Chip. Yep, that's true.

Um, yes, 16 to 7, 10 33 left for, uh, for C, L, E, M, S, O, N to hang on. You think, uh, bell checks taken them down?

It's that next week. Uh-huh. They might, I'm not, listen, I'm saying it hasn't looked good at all at any point this year. If they lose to North Carolina, it'll be an upset probably on the book, but it's not that big of an upset no matter what the spread says. In fact, I hope North Carolina is the underdog. So that's where I can sprinkle them next week. Hmm.

Um, Penn State, getting in, uh, kind of spinning its wheels a little early against Temple. What's the, what's the alarm level there? Uh-huh. None. Okay.

I mean, it's, it's one of those things that happens. It's like road game. We're spot football NFL stadium just, you know, probably the sleepy early start probably kind of overlooked them a little bit. Once it once they started, I mean, it's not like Temple Ever had a shot of winning the game. Right.

It didn't, I had on my note pad because it didn't really work out this way.

So I didn't want to like write this necessarily. It sort of pitched it as an idea.

Then it didn't did not end up playing it out. As sometimes it happens over on the editorial side. But there was a point where Penn State was struggling in Virginia Tech was rolling. Yeah. It was like, ah.

And it wasn't an interesting thing. I don't know what an interesting, uh, an interesting series of events here. Now Virginia Tech, uh, Virginia Tech also was playing an in-state opponent from the group of six. There was a home. As you mentioned, Penn State's away from Happy Valley.

I, I think Virginia Tech fans are feeling pretty good right now about the James Franklin era.

Yeah. Actually, any of the hockies against Old Dominion? I did not see a whole lot of it. You know, I, I, but I did, I'm looking at the box going now. Like, I'm a boy, drunk, drunk dog.

327 yards, two touchdowns, 31-42. Just yeah. It's, I think you're not, I'm not going to put a whole lot of stock in wins over old Dominion. But Old Dominion has been a pretty decent team last year for the G6. So.

And that game is a game that Virginia Tech has lost before. Yeah. That's what I'm saying. It's just. Okay.

All right.

We're just, here's what I'm going to do.

We put a pin in October 12th is the one year anniversary of James Franklin getting fired. Do a fool who won the break up. After one year. Yeah. One year later.

Who's who won the break up? I would tell Straker to put it in the schedule. But he's probably sleeping at the wheel. Like he was with that tweeter earlier. Oh, he was that way.

What'd you say, Mr? Yeah. Exactly. He's busy. He's busy watching Penn State highlights.

No, just I was grabbing another Modella. Okay. And thank you to Modella for sponsoring the instant reaction show. Um, okay. Are you ready to talk about it?

Yeah. Okay. Um. Duke wins in champagne. 31 27.

Day. They're thorn in the ass, man. Yeah. I just, I saw it happening. I watched it all.

And I was like, I've seen this movie before. You just look up at the end. And you're like, how they, how they win. But they did.

I mean, that's how that's how you win an ACC championship with five losses.

Winning an ACC championship with five losses has literally never been done before.

And many D.S. did it. Many D.S.S.S.S.S. talk about how he drags you into the sewer. And it really happens. It doesn't necessarily mean low scoring, right? But it's just, oh, are you okay if you clean yourself?

I'm great. Um, yeah, no. Nate Shepherdman is a dog. Like, that kid. I can't remember what the stats were.

I know last year he let. He was like one of the leaders in the nation and broken tackle rate. I'm pretty sure his broken tackle rate today was about 175%. Like, I think he broke tackles that people weren't even trying to make on him. He was impossible to bring down.

And he ran for like a billion yards last week against two lane. Follows that up with a 147 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries today. Everything over six. He also caught five passes for 41 yards and two touchdowns. Like, they were like, what, you know, like we were joking earlier.

Maybe Ohio State should give the ball more often a Jeremiah Smith. Duke did that game plan, but with Nate Shepherd. And they ran all over Illinois. Is it a great win? Walker, he get looked much better this week than he did last week against Tulsa.

He had three touchdowns 15 and 20 left 26 yards. Duke deserve Duke was the better team in that game. Like Illinois was winning for a lot of the game. But Duke was a better team pretty much the entire time. Illinois's offense was just bailing them out because their defense was horrible.

Like there is. There is very much a reason why I did not take Illinois against the spread in this game. And I locked up the over because I was terrified of the defense because they weren't able to stop the run last week against UAB. And I was very afraid of what Nate Shepherd was going to be able to do to them today

and hate Nate Shepherd did it. And just do be blunt. The Illinois defense sucks. I am not a fan of this scheme. I am not a fan of anything I've seen from them.

It is a legitimate problem that is going to be a problem for them all year long. I don't think this is a situation where things are going to get better. I just don't think they are good enough on that side of the ball. I don't think the scheme works in the big ten.

I think it is a problem and it is going to be and after watching them today.

I don't think that their schedule is to the point where I still think Illinois is going to a bull. But I think like seven and five is probably your best case. Eight and four if Kent and Kate and House are completely balls out.

Which Kate and House are doing play well.

That was one of the differences too. You saw the difference in this game from what you are used to seeing from Luke Alt My last few years because once again it is the fourth quarter. It is a one score game. Illinois has got the ball.

They have got a chance to go down the field and they had multiple chances with the ball in the fourth quarter down a score to go win this game. But where his Luke Alt Myr and those situations was terrific. And he orchestrated the offense perfectly.

How is there as great as he was for the first three quarters started just completely

honing in on Colin Dixon. He was just like, well, let me get this. There you go. Fifteen targets. I mean, granted 11 catches for 166 yards and three touchdowns.

I get it. But yo, that's a big target share. He was a ball game. Like he was there was a fourth down where they went for it. And he was the role into the right and he throws to the house there.

He throws a Dixon in the corner of the end zone and over throw is him. Meanwhile, Brad and Trimble was open like five yards in front of him. And he could have just pretty much handed it off to him for the first down. But he had or he'd already had in his mind. I got to go to Colin Dixon.

That's my guy. That's my guy.

I've been going to all game.

And that was the difference between him and Luke Alt Myr. Luke Alt Myr would have made the right play because in those situations all my right made the right play every time. I was there didn't do that today. So if he did, I think Illinois ends up playing that game.

Even though I don't think they would have deserved to. I think they could have stolen it. But they did. Come on. Oh yes, go ahead.

Like, manny, what you need to do tonight.

All right. When you get back to campus. Uh-huh. You need to go to John Shire's office. All right.

You got a break in. All right.

You got to go to his desk in the bottom right.

It's locked. You got to Jimmy that thing open. Inside is all the basketball and IL money. You need to steal some of that. Give it to Nate Shepard because I'm telling you right now.

Bye. Give him a whole bunch of money, man. You got to get the money. You got to keep that kid. Because that kid is awesome.

And I'm telling you a bunch of teams are coming after him. This is awesome. Um, I will wait. At least until we get out Halloween decorations before I start sending players. Off into the transfer portal.

I understand the fundraising efforts. But. Raise it because the kids weren't bit. I do think that the experience of dairy and men's. I should not reflect on Duke's inability to keep dairy and men's on a simply financial level.

I think a lot of that was timing and maybe multi-layered in terms of not just being a strictly money issue. Like the the wild number that will be.

The number that here's the thing, though, chip.

The teams. I'm not saying Duke doesn't have money. What I'm saying is the teams that are going to be coming after Nate Shepard are operating at a very different level with the money than what Duke is operating at. I thought you're talking about the I'm talking about playoff teams. I'm talking about top of the SEC.

I'm talking about Miami. I'm talking about the top of the big ten. I'm talking about Texas tech. These are the teams that Nate Shepard is going to be in the market for next in this office. I thought you were going to say that many D.S. should go back to his office.

And fill out his application to be the next head coach at Florida State University. That too. You take Nate with you. Coming up on the other side. Lots of changes coming to the AP top 25 poll.

We'll let you know our predictions and more. Nukes. Back here on the cover three podcast and a reminder that re ranking the top 25 is sponsored all season long by Madelo. College football season is Madelo season. The fight songs, the fan quakes, the rivalry trophies are all better with an ice cold Madelo in your hand.

It's not just game day, it's tradition. And those who keep college football traditions alive deserve all Madelo. Madelo is the official beer sponsor of the college football playoff. Now while Ohio State is clearly going to be vacating the top spot. The question may be does Georgia jump in.

Does Notre Dame after throttling rise, but Tom Fidelie.

Do you find a controversial that I've projected the Texas long horns to move into that spot?

I do not. You know why? Why? You know how many teams have a win over the number one team in the country after two weeks? Just Texas. Just Texas. Better put him at one. Even though we want to move up Ohio State to 0.5 because of the quality loss.

The AP top 25 doesn't engage in such nonsense.

Nor does the CBS Sports 138 which Tom and I will be filling out our ballots f...

It's the question then becomes in terms of going down the pole where does Ohio State land.

Now would you like to guess my guess or do you want me to go ahead and explain to you the way that I thought this out?

I want you to explain to me the way that you thought this out. I so the distance between Texas at four and LSU at eight was smaller than the distance between LSU at eight. So the goal in voting points suggests that there is a firm tier there. I don't think Ohio State falls out of the top ten. I think Ohio State checks in at number seven.

Essentially sliding into that spot above Ole Miss where these AP voters this season so far have clearly drawn a tier. Where you say Ohio State you take a loss then you move to the bottom but you're not going to get dropped a whole tier. Based on a road loss against a team that will be moving into the number one spot so I've got them at seven. I had to balance you. Behind LSU ahead of Ole Miss.

Who is it? Who is it eight?

He's right now. Well, LSU was eight last week so. Well, Oregon drop Oregon drop. Oh, I bad. I'm an idiot. Yeah, okay. That makes plenty of sense. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. No, that's probably right.

I don't know. I feel like last week. They were a little more reactive than we typically see. So I wouldn't be shocked if they fall further than seven.

But I think you're probably right on one point loss on the road even if you did choke it away at the very end.

It's probably not. They're probably not going to punish you too much. The reactive nature of last week's voting was taken into consideration as I projected Oklahoma out. I mean, it's just what what's there. But you know, it else is equally controversial and reactive. Michigan back in.

I don't think that's controversial at all. Okay. I said last week if they take them out. And then they go beat Oklahoma. They should be back in. I think Michigan should be right. They are two and a. The win over team those number 11 who might not be number 11 anymore, but still.

I don't know if they should be ranked them top 10. No, no, no, no, I've got them at 17, which the idea is. That's not where they should be. Yes, like they get a bit closer to where they weren't before. You know, they got knocked out because of the way things went against Western Michigan.

They make a return to the rankings. I do think Oregon remains in the top 25. I do too, but they should not be in the top 15. I've got them at 21. That's that weren't.

And in in my thought world. Are they behind Boisey? No, they're not. I've got Boisey in at 25 right now. The my thought on Oregon is that.

If a voter is tasked with putting together the 25 best teams in college football. You really can't make that list without including the Oregon ducks. Even if the performance that they've shown on the field is not at all aligned with the talent that we know is on that roster. The fact that the talent that is on that roster, the literal players playing together have won so many games at a high level against good teams. And yet the quality of the performance has not matched that.

I think this is about the last Mulligan that Oregon gets.

But I do think that they get one more Mulligan just because and I do there might be some voters who say, look, here's all you have. You've got a closer than expected win against a currently unranked, but I'm projecting to be ranked team in Boisey State. And then you've got a road loss against another unranked team. You strip away the name. You don't look at the talent.

You don't look at the depth charts. Oregon does not have a top 25 resume. This feels like the last last straw to be able to hold on to that one. So I've got Oregon dropping outside of the top 10.

And as we mentioned outside of the top eight for the first time since October 23.

I've got them checking in at 21 in the new updated rankings. So we got Oklahoma out. We got, uh, all this is a little bit of a controversial one. And a good chance to talk about this scene because we haven't yet. I'm going to say Washington's out.

Really? And they did win. It wasn't impressive at all. Like they have not looked good at all two weeks. That's kind of what I thought. And like then Washington State doesn't back it up as Washington State ends up getting kind of run and like handled mostly easily by Kansas State. You might have gotten more eyes on that game than I had.

But I was able to move it to the side pretty easily once Kansas State got in control. And so I just think that overall the Washington resume is just.

Oregon has this massive goal of space to fall when they're not matching their...

I just don't know with a closer than expected win against Washington State and a closer than expected win.

Again, and closer than expected win the following week coming. I just, I guess Utah State, I just don't think that it's going to be a resume as you're looking for reasons to put a Boise state in after the big winning against Memphis. As you're looking for reasons to maybe get a Florida in there. I don't have Florida in my top 25, but if someone wanted to, they were 27 in voting points last week.

I think that those would be teams that you could see taking yourself out of.

Yeah, to be clear, I'm Washington. They have played what might be the two worst teams in the past 12. And like they'd be Washington State 24 to time, but that game was far closer than that. Of course, it just, and they beat Utah State today 16 to 14. For those who aren't paying close attention to Broncos, big bad boys. Utah State lost to Idaho State last week.

And they were hanging around with Washington before quarter. So yeah, if anybody wants to take Washington off their ballot, you're not going to hear any complaints from me. I will say, I mean, they played Campbell, so maybe not, but I won't be shocked at all if Florida sneaks it. People want to rank Florida chip. People people kind of written for that. People, like, there were a lot of people who are voting new.

We're talking about how Florida is a dark horse team this year. And they could surprise people. And they're off to a two and a start. And I've looked really good in those games, even though they haven't actually played anybody. But you like you said, they were getting votes already. So there are a lot of people out there that are getting a little.

Would you check a finger on the ballot? I've got your, I've got the aforementioned Missouri Tigers bumping up a few spots. Maybe jump ahead of Iowa. I think that's fair. Given the way that both teams play.

I think they're better than Iowa. Yeah.

I think the way that both teams played here in week two.

But other than that, we've got a lot of moving the pieces around on the board.

We think Modello as always because that was the re-ranking the top 25 sponsored by Modello.

While the rankings may change from week to week, Modello will always be at the top of our list. Is the perfect companion for a college football Saturday. Remember, college football season is Modello season. All right. You know, Ted is C. We think about that.

Beat 'em up. It was not a good phase on Brandon G. No. It was not a good phase on Brandon G. But to Sean Bishop had a huge one.

20 carries, 190, some odd yards and a couple scores. And, you know, like on the very first drive, I think.

If it wasn't the first drive, it was still early in the first quarter.

Brandon let him write down the field. Oh, here we go. But, you know, it wasn't totally in sync once we got off script. It wasn't, but you know what he didn't do. He didn't turn the ball over. Didn't make a back-breaking mistake at all.

Alberto turned it over twice. And, you know, I can live with a freshman on the road playing against a P4 team. Not having the cleanest game. He was only 10 to 21. Not turning the ball over, not making that killer mistake.

That's what usually don't dooms you when you have a young quarterback.

Alberto Mendoza, he's not a freshman or the as young as phase on it. But he's kind of his inexperienced and that he's most of his experience before this came. And the four quarters games in Indiana was up by a thousand in. He, we saw last week against Colorado, didn't look great, didn't look great again today. And I think Georgia Tech's got the legit situation on its hand.

The offensive line does not look good. Quarterback doesn't look good. The defense doesn't look good. They didn't give up a lot of points last week against Colorado. But that had far more to do with Colorado and my estimation than it did Georgia Tech.

This is a team that, to me, is looking like it's going to be like, Holden hands with BC, maybe get the bottom of my hand. No, no, no, no. I know that BC might have had a night on Friday. Again, I'm actually in there to be as bad, but I'm saying they're going to be like,

They're going to turn around and BC's going to be right there standing behind him in line. Well, I mean, the thing that's going to really break their heart is when Wake Forest cuts in front of them. Winners and triple overtime at Purdue. That's a good win for Jake Dickert squad. It was.

Wild game, but, but certainly. I mean, I didn't listen. Oh, credit the wake for winning it. Great win for Jake to go on the road and get that, but. It was fourth and 15.

They couldn't get off and Purdue couldn't get off the field. I know. See, I'll tell you in the wake world, this is being spun as geo Lopez hero.

You know, like I didn't, then he gets the game winning 2.

You know, this, this is really being sold right there when geo Lopez was talking about how he didn't like the music.

He was playing in the Carolina locker room.

Everybody was way too serious and Wakefield's more like a family. Boy, they're rolling the quad. I don't know if they're rolling the quad, but, you know, they're, they're, they're loving themselves. Geolope has the hero on this on this day when the, the arts and sciences collided in the arts one. That's right, Johnny.

Sure is. Yeah.

I thought, I thought it was a, a interesting game of great significance to both teams on a very fun college football day.

It was a fun college football finish. And I will say, like, if you are a Purdue fan, it's hard to be happy. But you are making that transition from losing big to losing close. So the improvement is there. It's just improvement doesn't mean you are not going to have your heart ripped out right in front of you. That's still going to happen, David.

Um, South Florida near walkoff at Army. You catch the, I only caught the end of that one. I only saw the highlight of the end. I'd not see any of the game. Michael van Buren on a fourth down, just stepping up with the game on the line delivering an absolute strike. The bulls in year one of Brian Hartliner, waking up out of the slumber.

It hadn't always been pretty, but they're 2-0 on the season and they got a big road wind and conference play.

United States military academy, did the Navy end up coming back to win or did. Oh, yeah, I was about to bring that up. Like FAU was holding off her dear life in the world. Okay, 38, 30. Okay. Yeah, because they were up 38 to 14 going into the fourth quarter and the Navy came storming back to make a game of it. And did Army come storming back to?

Yeah. Yeah, early. We got, we got to work on our service academies getting off the better starts. Air force lost at home to North Dakota State to.

Whew, tough, tough scene out there. What else is on your note, Pat?

Uh, let's see here. What have we not talked about yet? We can talk about what's going on now if you want, but that doesn't matter. Like unless you Sam Lev is dead. Now, there is, there's only two games going on right now that I could see. I don't know if they're only show the tough 25, my bad, my bad. North Dakota State's about to finish off Air Force. The bad is down 17, nothing to buy to the state.

Yeah, I see that. Great last week. Yes. Well, also with Western Kentucky's follow up throttling at the hands of Georgia, I think we just might have, I might have a, a, a Western Kentucky got hoovered up.

Yeah, this, this could be an example of one of those proud programs that just hits that off cycle, where you lost the wrong players and the players you took weren't right. Because to have a Western Kentucky program, under Tyson, helping that for most of his tenure has been competing for conference USA titles. That showing out there at Nevada, then what we saw from Nevada paired with a 70 burger at the hands of Georgia,

just might be an off year for the toppers, which is a real shame for all of our, you know, what's the mascot's name?

Big red for all of our big red fans out there. We have, we, we've discussed how we feel that the big 12 is now wide open, but we have not actually discussed why we feel that way. Oh, because the Texas tech. Like, they won 35, 24 on the road against Oregon State, but like, I thought going into the year, my, my theory on Texas tech was going to be like, the defense is not going to be as good as it was last year. They lost, you know, three NFL defensive linemen, like an early day draft pick defensive linemen.

There's simply no way they were going to be able to repeat it, but there's still probably going to be pretty good. I, I don't know the Texas tech's defense is going to be any good anymore. Like, they gave up 472 yards to Oregon State. Beaver's average 6.6 yards per play on the offensive line. Some of it was will Hammond, but it. Beaver said four sacks, six tackles for loss. I don't know, man, like this Texas tech team does not strike me as being in the same tier as last year's was.

Like, I still look at it and say, it's probably going to be in there at the big 12th year of the year. It's probably still the team to beat, but whereas I looked at them as like an 80% chance in winning this league to start the year, I'm closer to more 50 now. I just don't think they're that good, and I think that the source of your situation is making itself clear as to why they were fighting so hard for that.

What about the Tommy Castle on us of it all, because obviously he makes some ...

It is a bonus package that they're working on. But if, if I could call Kyle winning him, nothing is infinite. I wouldn't be shocked if, if will Hammond kind of struggles going forward.

Would you be shocked if they pushed the Tommy C button?

No. I mean, I don't think they're bringing them in. They're not, at least considering it as a possibility, no matter what they say. And they've got a short week in their plane Houston on Friday night for their big 12 opener. Yeah.

It'd be very, very interesting to see how those things play out. And to your point about the defense, also credit to Brad Natkinson, who's now two weeks in a row. This guy was playing ball at Mercer last season, and he is just, you don't care, man. He's how they're slinging it, and did a good job of picking apart Texas text defense one week after some success in week one as well. You know, you know, well, it was slinging it out there.

No. But it's not here to criticize their backmire. 217 yards, three touchdowns, 8.3 per attempt. Wasn't, I'm loaming performance. So I saw 41 of those, you aren't, hold on, let me pull this up.

I saw 41 of those yards, and that was a, that was a 500 ball. You get toss it in the air and call me. I'm tired. Hey, look, you sometimes you got to trust your guy. Got to yell, yo, low and let it go.

We had, you know, I know Robert Griffin at third's a big fan of the cover three podcasts too.

We had RG 3 on the call, and of course he threw it to legend, and you can just let your mind say wander about how excited RG 3 was to have a play delivered to a player named legend. To the legend that he is, you know, all the way through. But if BYU plays games on their, like Arizona played that game well. You know, they played a pretty good game.

But BYU was better and came up with good plays late. The feet are made some mistakes. They kind of had to force the issue. And then as they were trying to force the issue, game got away from him. It was one that Arizona was absolutely showing up for and bringing the fight early.

But huge credit to BYU for again, you just, they do not beat themselves. They don't make mistakes, they don't have a whole bunch of costly turnovers. Yeah, good job, good job for the cougs. You who often beat themselves. Who?

Boisey State. Boisey State Memphis.

Able and shit in the second half.

Like that was a very close game in the first half. It was 2017 Memphis at halftime. And then Memphis did not score again. Boisey State just completely took control of the game. Riley finished 26 yards rushing.

Gaines had 93 like they were running all over Memphis. And we talked about that defensive line. And they figured out, you know how we're going to stop this Memphis pass rush. But running the ball down its damn throat. And that's exactly what they did.

And now, Boisey, like you're looking at what you've seen from the G60 far. Who are favorite? Like the fact that they nearly beat Borrigan last week. And they come in and they do this to Memphis.

Like, I mean, obviously they have to win their conference first.

And there's a long way to go before they. But if you're handicaping it right now.

Is there a G16 you're putting in the playoff ahead of Boisey State?

No. No. Um, that defensive line was feasting on Marcus Stokes. Mm-hmm. Definitely not something that I noticed at all as somebody who had Memphis team total over

22 and a half and had 20 points at halftime. And needed just three points in the second half. I forgot about that. A single field goal would have brought us home. That's it.

Yeah. So we had a pick. We had a pick six called back because his his pinky toe was on the sideline. And then a 20 points in the first half zero in the second. And like credit to Charles Huff.

He was playing to win that game. But he started going forward on like fourth and eight, fourth and ten in the third quarter. He was just tough scene. But I thought that I mean, Maddox Madsen got he didn't even have to finish the game. No.

They brought in cut for it.

Remember the guy who started for him last year for a couple games?

Um, yeah, they just ran the football right down their throat. It was a good good performance for Boisey State and Boisey State. Look, but this is the thing. If we're going to sit here and credit Oregon state. You know, we have to recognize there are going to be some difficult challenges.

Once they get in there.

Uh, RT our boys for San Diego State had a lot.

We're a feisty against UCLA made up there for a while. I mean, their friends now is just completely. Healing sacrament of state right now. They look much better than it did against USC. That's for sure.

Yep. And you know who learned how to plan the road? Who meet me? Oh, you TSA got away from the from the cavernous.

I think you're not how to win outside the Alamo dough.

I know. And it didn't look like they were going to because Texas State was up 17 to 7. And a half time. I saw that square. And I was like, oh man, the road runners are in trouble.

But nope, no.

Came back in the second half.

I got out of 23 to 9 and went 30 to 26. It's big winter for UTSA. We kind of talked about them in the off season as a team in the American to keep an eye on. Memphis is still good. This was not a conference last for them.

But maybe it looks shaky today. They lost army lost. You look at a lot of the contenders in the American. If there's some value on the road runners. If they've learned not to win road games.

Uh-oh. I'm not going to bail on the Memphis Tigers just yet. They might have run into. I don't think they're going to face a lot of teams like Boisey. Yeah, I'm not bailing out of them.

I'm just saying it. UCLA is just looking good. Oh, and speaking of G 16 to look good.

Do you remember who was able to run the ball against Indiana?

Oh, last week.

That'd be North Texas, which put UNLV in a body bag today.

Holy crap. 44 to 6. Sheesh! Dude, I read Jackson Arnold had like 15 friends and family there. Because he's from North Texas.

Well, at least he was a short drive home. Mmm. They stumbled. Like there were five thumbles in that game. They lost three of them.

Alex Orgy came in through five passes. Plated one to his team and one to North Texas. Just. Wow. Just an absolute.

What? At one point. Oh, go ahead.

No, I was going to say like that.

You saw him against Indiana last week.

And he was like, wow, this is kind of concerning for Indiana.

I mean, green coming in Neil Brown just taking over the brand new team. All the other teams at Oklahoma State. Like, North Texas beat Oregon and UNLV today. If you think about it. If you think about it.

That's right. If you think about it. That's about it. Western Michigan, Boise State. Super fun.

As we mentioned, what? So to say, it was a don't get off the bus Saturday for whoever the hell was playing Western Michigan. Told you don't get off the bus. So you did not want to see this team this week. They are mad.

What do you do? You should have stayed on the bus. Monmouth. All right. What else?

Anything? That's about it for me. I mean, Jacksonville State Ohio was a banger. I'm told I did not get eyes on it, but it went for over times. I heard a lot of great things about it.

So I'll probably go check out like a condensed game version of that. But I didn't see any of it. Locals corner here. Real disappointing performance. Real disappointing start.

I think for ECU. Appstate came and kind of kind of shell shocked him a little early. That's an appstate team that I do not think many people were high on. That's now to know, but something to to monitor as they enter Sunbelt play. Speaking of Sunbelt play, James Madison scored 87.

Dag um points. I mentioned this on Twitter earlier. They moved this game because of implement weather. You know, like they they went out of their way to buy guys. We the health and safety of our players and fans.

We're going to move this game to noon. So we can get it over with before the storms come. And then head to nine hour game. You didn't need all those touchdowns to take care of Wagner. Gracious 87 points.

Program record. I mean, these. This this was a great observation. This is probably something for a pun for the review. But Andrew Ivins in our college football workroom.

And of course, you can listen to Andrew Ivins on some of the cover through recruiting shows that he and But if started to do with more regularity and I encourage you to check those out. I love his observations on all things beyond recruiting college football in general. But he was pointing out that because of the house settlement and the increase to 105. That most programs.

They're no longer having walk on so no longer having walk on caliber players.

So when we put on the twos in the threes in 2026, the twos in the threes are better than they've ever been before. So we're still sending out the guys that used to be legitimately the university president's nephew. And now all of a sudden it's a real college football player. And so it's just leading to these bananas results. Just the increase to 105 scholarship.

Just a small detail of a settlement that mostly gets discussed within the context of revenue sharing and paying players. But like that piece of it. And remember Matt rule was out here about eliminating the walk on programs going to ruin college football. You don't ruin it ruined Wagner's day. It ruined the day of all these teams that signed up for these buy it ruined Florida A&M's day.

Like all these teams that signed up for these buy games and get paid 750 to 1.750K to 1.2 million dollars to get beat by a billion.

Sure feels like ever since the house settlement went in. Some of those games get a lot more lopsided.

And I really think it has to do with the fact that our twos and our threes and our backups and our backups are real football players now.

Yo, but I've seen like there are some talk about how you know these games that are going obsolete because of that. But you can't get rid of me, no one. Because if I could go local's corner. If you get rid of FCS buy games and rock spec and the Illinois state red birds aren't walking into the cow. And in Northern Illinois climbing in the mountains of the Calville, Illinois and handed Northern Illinois a loss.

That's right. The Illinois state team that got to the FCS title game last year came up short. They put it on going back there again this year. 28 24 shout out the red birds teaching them boys a lesson for leaving their backyard to join the mountain west. Wouldn't happen if you were in the Mac, Northern. Let's go.

Dave Clauston was on the call for North Carolina East Tennessee state is enjoyable because I like listening to Dave Clauston always enjoyed interviewing him and having conversations with him.

And he was wake for a said coach and since he's joined the media. Also he recruited wheel wheel healy as his quarterback when he was at Richmond. And he hated Carolina as a coach, so he wasn't at all. He wasn't very close. Wasn't at all.

Yes, he wasn't having a good time, but I'm just here to do a job.

But no, he also, he, his big thing that he was leaning in with this commentary that I did enjoy taking note of and, you know, think he was providing color that no one else could. Was that somebody who competed against Bobby Petrino, he was just calling stuff out left and right. He was like, oh, yeah, there's the pinnacle classic Petrino been doing it for decades. Oh, yeah, here's this that at the end. Like he was he was calling it all out.

It was a lot of fun. North Carolina got up 35 to 0 long weather delay just sort of sits on it the rest the way 35 to 30 again. They will be heading to play the clips and tigers. It looks like survived, right? Mm-hmm.

Yeah, apparently. We were able to barely survive against Georgia Southern. Good job. You guys are back. You're going to be competing on top of the league.

Peter and titles again here pretty soon. One thing left on my note that here. Yes. Can I scare these people?

Don't want the counter to come in after us.

Oh, yeah, they flipped that game. Let's go. It was, it was not a pretty game. No, no, no. Not, not a lot to be proud of, but you know what?

Follow-up last week's loss. If a lie all the way across the country, which we have seen, like the numbers show you how it goes for most of the time for these teams. It seems it has to make the travel like this. I don't care what it looks like.

As long as that flight home is a win, good.

So Tashley Poeh has his first-minute call.

It was not pretty. There's clearly some work still to be done with this team going forward. But take it. Not pretty. Yeah, cheers to you.

Calgarytham. My laptop. Two-hour podcast. Two-hour podcast. It's got one sip left.

One little sip left for the bears. Beers. All right. So what's next? What's next is we are back with you on Monday for a pun for the review.

The chance to be able to look back at some of the late night action as well as more of what we were able to gather from across college football. Danny Cannell jumps back in, but Ellie jumps back in and so much more. Spencer and the tailgate already understands the LSU Ole Miss. I'm sorry. LSU Ole Miss doesn't exist.

The only thing I know is Rutgers USC. The only big game breakdowns we're doing are nothing but Rutgers USC. Congrats to Boston College.

You know?
