Blessed Are the Meek

Let's call to mind all those who've promised to pray for. I believe in God the Father Almighty,

“creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived”

by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified died and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again,

he ascended into heaven and he seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body in life, everlasting, amen. Our Father, who art in heaven, hollowed be your name by kingdom come by will be done on earth as it is in heaven. You have us to stay our daily bread and for you us our trespasses,

as we free of those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us

As it was in the beginning, as now and for shall be, world without and amen. Our first mystery,

the second be attitude is, blessed are the meek. Jesus said, "Learn for me for I am meek and

“humble of heart." So the first be attitude corresponds to humility, blessed are the poor and spirit.”

But then comes meekness. Now, imagine going to a job interview and they ask, "What's your greatest strength?" And you respond, "I'm meek." Now, most people would think, "That's ridiculous." Because when they hear the word "meekness," they think, "weekness." But meekness is not weakness. In fact, it's just the opposite. Meekness is the calm strength that harnesses the power of anger and directs it to the good.

During the Exodus, Moses is described as the meekest man on earth, yet he was no pushover. He was the only one willing to stand up to Pharaoh and demand the

freedom of Israel, and then he had to lead a million complaining and rebellious people through the

desert for 40 years. And I doubt the money changers in the temple thought Jesus was weak when he drove them out with a whip. Yet, Jesus was meek. So, perhaps we need to rethink our understanding of meekness. Our Father who art in heaven, hollowed be your name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us a stare, daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we free those who trespass against us, and lead us not in

“Lead all souls to have an especially those most in need of thy mercy. Our second mystery,”

makeness is the virtue that harnesses and governs anger. Now, anger is a good God given emotion. It gives us this strength to accomplish difficult things, to correct evils, and to endure suffering without giving up or becoming bitter. So anger was meant to be constructive, but anger becomes destructive when it exceeds what's reasonable when we become too angry, or angry over small things, or we remain angry for too long, and anger becomes sinful when it

seeks revenge. The purpose of anger is to correct what is wrong and restore what is good, but it becomes sinful when it seeks to hurt others, or get even, or make someone suffer.

And third, anger becomes sinful when it arises from an unjust cause. We use it to get our way,

to defend our ego, to prove our importance, or exercise power over others. The purpose of anger is to help us do what is within our responsibility within our control.

“But how much of your anger is spent on things that are beyond your control?”

Do you become angry over political leaders, church leaders, world events, or the decisions of others? What good does that type of anger accomplish? Why waste your strength on things that are beyond your control? Things that are not on your plate? Our father, Wards and Heaven, hollowed be your name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is and Heaven.

Give us a stay, our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil Amen. A warhorse could charge into battle at full speed, yet stop at an instant with a slight toucher word. It wasn't frightened by arrows or spears or fire. It remained strong, but it learned obedience. That's weakness. Power under control.

Strength under authority.

“Picture a mighty stand, galloping across a battlefield.”

Then, at the command of its writer, it comes to an immediate halt and waits for the next command. Those horses didn't lose their power. They learned to govern it, and we don't want to get rid of the power of anger. We want to harness it for good. Our father, who art in heaven, hallowed be your name.

That kingdom come by will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Your vests stay our daily bread, and for your vests our trespasses. We stop the anger before it takes control. We check it.

Then command the right response.

“When something provokes anger, first stop and think before you read just react and ask yourself, what do I really want here?”

Destruction, revenge, damaged relationships? Do I want to look like a fool who can't control himself? No, I want you, with God, I want to love God and love my neighbor and even love my enemies. So we have to keep that goal in front of us and then ask, what can I actually do? If there is something you can do, take action and do it, change what is possible. But if there's nothing you can do, or the matters not even your responsibility, then stay calm, stay out of it, and let God take care of it.

So remember, when anger rises, check and command.

“Well, what captured your attention with that meditation, Theresa?”

I was definitely reminded of a lot of moments of anger, especially, or the desire to let loose, to just to not hold back, but also balancing that with. You can just keep the goal in mind, like you said, and realize, if I just let loose, I'm not even going to get the release or the response that I wanted. Just think about, I think of any situation.

If you've ever seen someone in a situation like a restaurant or something, and they don't get the service they wanted,

if you respond with any kind of anger, you are never going to get better service.

Your service will get drastically worse if you are frustrated with them in any visual way. It's just good to treat people in restaurants very well. It is how you will get the best service, and if there's not better service to be had, then there's not better service to be had. But I can't think of any time where my emotional response was actually going to get the response that I wanted.

Yeah, it's frustrating as that is. It really, meekness is about, it basically is this whoever keeps their head wins. Or gets hit another way. Whoever keeps their head keeps their head. I love the scene.

I used it in the first meditation, but I love the scene where Moses is stuck between a rock and a hard place. He's got the largest military force in the world. And every person in that military force just lost their firstborn. And it's Moses fault, they think.

They're pouring down on him to kill them.

And he's got a million Israelites mad at him.

And everyone's losing their head.

“And God says to Moses, Moses, all you have to do is be still.”

Hey, Moses, look, what you have in your hand. That staff raised it up and the sea parts. Moses was the only one who kept his head.

And if he would have lost his head.

John, what was instinctual? The Bible would be two books long. Genesis and 12 chapters of Exodus. And it's over. Yeah, just keep still.

Keep quiet. Keep the goal in mind.
