Welcome to our daily rosary meditation.
Theresa and I were so blessed. We're at the home of a wonderful young man, John. He's 13. And God in our lady are getting him through leukemia right now. And he is dedicated in the rosary podcast and invited us over. It's a great joy to be here. So we have a
powerful meditation about the value of suffering, and then we'll have a little conversation
at the end. So let's begin in the name of the Father in the Son of the Holy Spirit.
“Amen. Let's call to mind all those we've promised to pray for. I believe in God, the Father”
Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the community of saints
for giving us of sins, for as a reaction of the body and life everlasting. Amen. Our Father,
“Wharton heaven, hallowed be your name. I kingdom come by will be down on Earth as it is in heaven.”
If this is day or daily bread, and in forgive us our trespasses. As we forgive those who trespass against us, and He is not in due rotation, let us deliver us from evil. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee, blessed, our Thalmung, women, blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee, blessed, our Thalmung, women, blessed is a fruit of thy womb Jesus. They are Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee, blessed, our Thalmung,
women, blessed is a fruit of thy womb Jesus. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. Our first mystery, suffering can be one of the greatest obstacles to being led by the Holy
“Spirit. When it comes, many of us resist panic or even just shut down, and that's why the”
virtue of patience is essential. Without it, we can't fully cooperate with the Spirit.
Now, same Maxime Colby, he had the virtue of patience in a heroic measure. That's why he became such a powerful instrument in the hands of the Holy Spirit Mary. In 1917, as a young man, he contracted tuberculosis, which, at that time, there was no cure. And he would suffer from it for the rest of his life. One lung collapsed entirely. The other was badly damaged, and he lived with only 20% blood capacity. He endured a constant fever, migraine headaches, and the persistent
sense of living under the shadow of death. But there was more than physical suffering to Colby.
He had the bold vision to do something that no one else had done. Yet, he was always misunderstood
by the people around him. After 700 years of doing things the same way, most Franciscans couldn't grasp his vision to use every modern means of evangelization. He wanted to use the printing press in the radio and film, to spread devotion to Jesus through Mary. And instead of support, he was sent into exile to a remote mission in Grodno. But even there, Colby didn't retreat.
He expanded. And when that place could no longer contain his work, he built the largest Catholic monastery in the world, Neapotolana, and 700 young men joined him. Then in 1939, Poland was crushed between the Nazis and the Soviets. Colby was eventually arrested and sent to Auschwitz, a living hell.
Yet, not a single witness, friend or foe ever reported him uttering a word of...
He never complained. He never cursed his illness. He never blamed others. He never felt sorry for himself.
“And that unwavering patience became the open channel through which the Holy Spirit and Mary”
could use him powerfully. Our father, Wharton, Heaven, Halloween be your name. That kingdom come, that will be done on earth as it is, and Heaven. The All Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed our Thalma, women, blessities of fruit,
to thy will, Jesus. The All Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed our Thalma,
women, blessities of fruit, to thy will, Jesus. The All Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed our Thalma,
“women, blessities of fruit, to thy will, Jesus. The All Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee,”
blessed our Thalma, women, blessities of fruit, to thy will, Jesus. The All Mary, the All Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed our Thalma, women, blessities of fruit, to thy will, Jesus. The All Mary, full of grace, the All Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed our Thalma, women, blessities of fruit, to thy will, Jesus. The All Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed our Thalma, women, blessities of fruit, to thy will, Jesus. The All Mary,
“full of grace, the All Mary, full of grace, the All Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed our Thalma,”
women, blessities of fruit, to thy will, Jesus. The All Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed our Thalma, women, blessities of fruit, to thy will, Jesus. The All Mary, mother of God, the All Mary, full of grace, the All Mary, full of grace, the All Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed our Thalma, women, blessities of fruit, to thy will, Jesus. The All Mary, and mother of God, they are all soul-sad and especially those who must be the thy mercy. Our second mystery,
James chapter 1 tells us, "My brothers, you will always have your trials, but when they come,
try to treat them as a happy privilege. You understand that your faith is only put to the test to make you patient, but patience too is to have its practical results so that you will become fully developed, complete with nothing missing." Verse 12, "Then finishes with, happy the man who stands firm when trials come, he has proved himself and will win the prize of the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love Him." Okay, that's all
fine and well, but how in the world can we be happy when trials come, because we live by providence. We know that in all things God works for good for those who love Him. So we can be happy because we have confidence that God will turn this trial, whatever it is to our good, but to cooperate with God takes patience. And without patience, we'll lose the good God wants to bring forth from our trials. So we need patience,
but what is patience? Our father who art in heaven, how it would be your name,
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven.
Jesus, our trust passes, as we forgive those who trust pass against us, and as not into temptation,
“but to other us to be willing. They are Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with the”
blessed, our Thalman, women, blessed, and He's the fruit of thy wounded Jesus. "Holy Mary, Mother of God, great for us sinners, now with the power of our death they are." They are Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with the blessed, our Thalman, women, blessed, and He's the fruit of thy wounded Jesus. "Holy Mary, Mother of God, great for us sinners, now with the power of our death they are."
They are Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with the blessed, our Thalman, women, blessed,

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. "As it was to be getting us down with our shall be, we're old without end, amen." "Oh, my Jesus?" "Forget us our sins, say us from the fires of hell. They also stand in
especially those in the state of the energy." "Our third mystery, patience is the
virtue to endure suffering cheerfully." Now patience is part of the virtue of courage, and there are two basic actions of courage, attack and endure. When we face something bad or evil, our first response should be to attack it, change it if we can, but if we can't change it, then we are called to endure the evil without becoming evil ourselves. So when we face some trial or suffering that we can't change,
that's when we are in danger of losing the good God once, if we respond badly, maybe with sinful anger, or bitterness, or resentment, or even giving up on God through despair. But that's when we need patience. The virtue to endure the trial cheerfully, because we're convinced that God really does work all things for good, for those who love Him. So the kind of patience we're talking about is the patience that is convinced that no matter what
we win, because God wins through us, or Father Wharton Heaven, how it would be your name, that kingdom come by will be done on earth as it is and heaven. "You're gonna have to stay our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and they does not have a true temptation that's deliver us from evil, amen." The internet. He had a publishing basically a publishing company where they were distributed
a million copies a day of their publication about Jesus and Mary. Radio was new. He set up a radio
station in the monastery. He talked the railroad into running the railroad right into his monastery so he could be like Amazon for his mission. They were building a runway because he was training pilots so they could distribute their material more quickly. Then he decided he would duplicate it in Japan. And then he started a worldwide movement. And then one day one of his friends, brother Pelagius, said to him, "Father Colby, despite your poor health
and the many obstacles you've had to overcome, you've accomplished so much. Imagine what you could have done if you didn't have tuberculosis. Why doesn't God free you from this so that you could be more successful?" Colby smiled and said, "Just the opposite. The suffering wasn't the obstacle. The suffering was the engine that powered the success. When we have no cross, we rely on human effort alone and that is weakness. Suffering strips us of self-reliance so
that we rely on God. And then we become free and powerful." See for Colby,
he's tuberculosis wasn't the obstacle. He was the engine because he had the right attitude. He had patience. Our father, who art and heaven, hollowed beer name. By kingdom come by will be done on earth as it is and heaven. Give us to say our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And let us not make use of patience, but to let us start being willing to. They are married full of grace. The Lord is with thee, blessed our Dalman,

They are married full of grace. The Lord is with thee, blessed our Dalman, women, blessed is a fruit of thy womb Jesus. They are married full of grace. “They are married full of grace. The Lord is with thee, blessed our Dalman, women, blessed is a fruit of thy womb Jesus.”
The Lord married mother of God, great for us sinners, now with the power of our Dalman. The Lord is with the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning of a sound and a shall be, we're old without ending them. All my Jesus, they are going to start sending us from the fires of hell. They are also seven, especially those of us in the University.
Our fifth mystery. So patience is a virtue. It's not something we wait to feel. Remember, patience is to be cheerful in the midst of suffering. And if it's a virtue, that means it's a choice. It's an action you choose to practice. And like any virtue, it gets easier the more we practice it.
“But still, how do we, how in the world do we remain cheerful in suffering?”
It's always by remembering that God's providence works all things for good for those who love him.
And God's providence is carried out by the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit does everything through Mary. So Colby wrote a saying over the door going into his bedroom. And it's still there today. It said, "I see Mary everywhere. I see difficulties nowhere." So John, when I was coming over here this evening, I was thinking, I should give something to John. And I'm like, "I pulled out by her six or different rosaries." And I'm like, "Oh, he's got a rosary."
What can I give John? And then right before I left, I'm telling you the truth. Right before I left, our lady said to me, "Don't forgive me." So I went back in the house and I grabbed my little statue of Mary off the shelf. And when we sat down tonight, she said to me, "Give me to John." So you're supposed to take this statue with you when you go to the hospital and you put it there. And every time you see it, you say to yourself, "I see Mary everywhere. I see difficulties nowhere."
Is that a deal? Yeah. Good. Our father, who art in heaven, "Hello, it'd be your name." I kingdom come and I will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed our Thalman, women blessed it is a fruit of thy womb, Jesus. afterward I always turn to Tresa and I ask her, you know, what, what rethinking, what re-flecting on, so Tresa gets, we're going to give her the day off.
So I'm curious, I'm just curious what you were reflecting on or what struck you as we were praying this rosary about Colby.
“Well, I think this meditation was like perfect for me. I was thinking, and you were talking about God's providence and like,”
sometimes you get sinful anger, I was like, I do that all the time, I mean, I offered I most of the time, but I don't know. I was just thinking about God has a purpose for everything, and he wouldn't give it to me if he knew that I wasn't strong enough. Exactly, exactly. Not only that, not only did he allow you to have this because he knew you could handle it, but God is like the most perfect trainer. When he finds an athlete who has great potential, you know, if you got a team and you see if you see somebody who's lazy, doesn't have a lot of athletic ability,
you're probably not going to give them a lot of attention, but if you find you're like, the weight, that, that kid has got tremendous potential. The coach is going to push that one harder,
“because they know the potential they can reach. That's what God is doing to you.”
Well, that's cool. I mean, think of what God did to Colby. God could see what Colby was going to do, and so he allowed him to have the turkey tuberculosis so that he would reach it. Now, I think here's the difference between you and Colby. Colby couldn't be tuberculosis. You're going to beat leukemia. Exactly. Yeah. It's just making me stronger, I guess, right? Yeah, that is absolutely right. But if there are moments where especially during the chemo,
If there are moments where your energy is down and you feel down and if you f...
I want you to remember this, feelings aren't simple. If you feel angry,
if you feel down, if you feel like God is not there, that's not a sin. That's normal. That's just being human. So, if you feel those things, don't beat yourself up about it.
“It's just normal. And it's also part of the way God is training us. But if you need to, like,”
yell at somebody, don't yell at your mom. I'll give you my phone number. You can call me a yell at me. Yeah, that's it. yell at your siblings. I think they could handle it. Yeah, I think they'd probably give it back to you though. Maybe. Why don't I have this sense that even though you have leukemia right now,
that they don't give you a lot of slack? They don't. Always like this. Since I was born.
You know, it's true. You didn't do your slack. You didn't do your slack. Yeah. So, John, you know, there's about 100,000 people who do this podcast with us every week. And there's a, I receive a lot of messages from people all over the world who are really going through difficult things, all kinds of difficult things, physical, mental, the loss of loved ones,
“all kinds of things. So, what do you, what do you think is the most important thing”
to tell these people who are going through suffering? It feels like a sports interview.
This is a sport. I got the best athlete. This is a sports interview. Well, I would tell them, God thinks highly of you. He thinks that you can beat the struggle. He'll make you stronger. He loves you. That's really it. I mean, just exactly what you said. He wouldn't give it to you if you die. You can handle it. Yeah. Yeah. That's great advice. That's, that makes for a good resolution. You know, every meditation
should end with a concrete resolution, kind of a game plan for the day. So, that's a good resolution that when, at any moment, when we get angry or down today because of some suffering,
“we have to remember God is in control. He knows this. He's allowed it because he's preparing us”
for something greater. That's, that's great advice. John, I'm really grateful you let me come over and especially the homemade ice cream. And Theresa's grateful because she got off the hook today. I appreciate you so much. All right. You take that statue with you to the hospital. You remember the saying of Colby and you can be assured the Theresa and I'll pray for you every day, but you gotta keep us updated on what's going on. All right? Because people from all over the world
now are going to be asking me how's John? John, thanks for the conversation. Let's be apostles of friendship, good conversation, and the rosary. Share this with others.
