“The fall of 2007, Keith Giamanko was in serious financial trouble.”
So he came up with a bold plan to save his family.
I felt such desperation. I felt it was what I had to do. At the time did it seem like a crazy idea? It seemed very crazy, but I felt a sense of being so desperate that I felt that it was the quickest, easiest way out. To all who knew him, Keith was a mild mannered suburban dad.
But secretly, he became someone else, a master of disguise.
I wasn't very good at looking anyone in the eye.
“You can't chair anything like that with someone else.”
If you do, you're had. Eventually, the police showed up. One night, when his teenage daughters were home alone, wondering where their dad was. Recognized seriousness, because they wouldn't have sent an entire crime
scene unit out to my house if it wasn't serious. Then it said one or two dudes, they sent a whole van of people, plus dogs. Every family has its secrets.
“But what happens when you discover that your dad has been living a double life?”
It was literally like, there is something wrong. Like, I couldn't put my finger on it, but it was anxiety, it was defeat, it was fear. Because everyone lying to me about who they are, I didn't trust anyone after that. Soon, it wasn't just Keith's daughters who I had to deal with his lies.
It was friends, neighbors, investigators, prosecutors, and ultimately Keith himself.
Came up and then proceeded to take his hand and put it into his jacket like he had a weapon. He can't put that many people in that much fear and not expect to pay a heavy price for it. Okay, before I ask you any question, you are advised of your constitutional rights. People say, "Oh, you made a mistake. No, I didn't make a mistake.
Making a mistake is putting salt in your coffee instead of sugar. I made bad choices. Those things were a choice." This is a story about the crimes a man will commit in the name of Fatherhood. It's about love, deception, and justice.
And it's about the disguises parents put on for their children and the world. Deep cover the family man, coming May 18th from Pushkin Industries. Listen wherever you get your podcasts. Subscribe to Pushkin Plus to hear episodes of Deep Cover, The Family Man, Early and Add Free.
