No, he is Frank Scott and Chris.
This is not the start opening day that we were looking for.
Welcome into a emergency edition of Fantasy Baseball today. Here on Thursday, March 26th, I am Frank's sample joined by Chris Howard's bringing you some bad news. Jackson Cheerio has a fractured left hand. He was placed on the I.L. and expects to return some time in mid to late April.
All things considered I guess this could have been worse, right? He's only going to miss two to four weeks, assuming no setbacks. Apparently, felt it after a hit by pitch while he was playing in the WBC. And then it made it worse with a check swing soon thereafter. So kind of annoying that we're finding this out on opening day.
It feels like we probably could have found out about the sooner we'll get to replacements in just a little bit.
But Chris, obviously, this sucks, trio was probably your second or third round pick if you
drafted him. And we have to worry about this lingering once he's back as well. So your thoughts on all of it, how far you're lowering him the rankings? Yeah, that's the primary concern I think, because missing two to four weeks, which is the
“stated timetable I've seen at the start of the season, is not the worst thing in the world.”
It's what happens if he aggravates it, what happens if he comes back, but he's just not the same. And I do think you have to account for those possibilities. So my first reaction was to quote Frank's vocal doppelganger based on that one comment. Once again, things that could out, that's not a Chris Farley quote, that's an Adam Sandler
quote. So to quote Frank's favorite, I'll take it either way. Once again, things that could have been brought to my attention yesterday regarding Jackson charios injury would have been nice to know, you know, we still had drafts going on yesterday. So, yeah, that's a bummer, but if we were redrapping today, I think I would drop him
to around 50th overall. I don't know. I'm thinking around 12th at outfield, so for me, it would be behind, like James Wood and P. Cararm Strong ahead of Wyatt Langford and Jackson Meryl, but I could be talked into moving him further down, certainly, you know, if you wanted to say you'd take a projected 160
from Wyatt Langford over a projected 130 from Jackson chario, I would argue with that too much. You know, the home run and RBI numbers are going to be pretty similar. Langford has the potential to take a step forward in batting average.
“So, yeah, I think 12 to 15 in outfield is probably where I'd go.”
Yeah, my first glance was 15 in the outfield, and that would be right behind Roman Anthony,
Jackson Merrill, Cody Belinger, might be a little bit too low, that would put him right around 70th overall in my rankings there. There is a pretty big drop off, I think, at that point in the outfield rankings. Yeah, because then you get into like springer and Riley Green and Buckston and we have some questions, questions about those guys, so yeah, drop them down a little bit and again,
it's like if he's back in two weeks, this is probably not a big deal, but yeah, if you miss the whole first month, you were talking, you know, one sixth of the fantasy baseball season. So, that obviously would not be very good there for Jackson chario, if you are looking for replacements, part of the problem with this Chris in weekly leagues, lineups probably
have already locked, if you, or your fab's already runs, you can't do, so like if based on the Giants and Yankees playing a game last night, a lot of leagues, even if you make a player, you add a player now, it's not eligible until like the next time you set your lineups, so it's pretty annoying, but if for some reason you can add a player and still put them in your lineup, I know that Scott likes Dominic Canzone as a streamer for this
weekend, if you're looking for the long week one, March 25th to April 5th, Scott had Carson Benj and Mike Yostrenski on his list of options there, if you're just looking for the highest impact in a shallow league, some names that are rostered between 60 and 75% on CBS, Carson Benj, Justin Crawford, Trent Grisham, Dale and Lyle, Chase DeLater, so Chris, how would
“you rank those five Benj Crawford Grisham, Lyle DeLater?”
I feel pretty confident I'm going to put Lyle at the top, and I feel pretty confident I'm going to put Grisham at the bottom, and I'll admit there's a little bit of a mystery box versus a boat element to that, because Trent Grisham just had a 30 home or season, I don't think he's likely to repeat that, but it happened, and none of these guys are proven at all, Dan and Lyle being the most proven, but I would go Lyle, I think I'd
go DeLater, Benj Crawford Grisham, but I think the three in the middle are very fungible, and it kind of just depends on what you need, right? Because if you drafted
Jackson Cheerio, a big part of that was the stolen bases, right?
Carson Benj has some stolen base potential, but probably not more than like 15 over the course of the season, Chase DeLater has probably none, and I don't think the Guardians are going to ask him to run at all, and Justin Crawford could be a 40 steel guy, so, you know, if you specifically need to make some ground up in steel, well, you're not making up any ground yet, unless you want to get just, just, just, doesn't make us, but if you're
looking to replace steel specifically, Justin Crawford would be the guy to go with.
“Yeah, I think that makes sense, I think if you're just looking for all around player,”
all around production, I probably would look at Lyle or Carson Benj, if you're in just a point sleeve, I think Chase DeLater is probably the name to chase there, no pun intended, just because really good play discipline in the miners, we're expecting him to play every day for the Guardians. If you are in a slightly deeper league, we're talking five outfielders, twelve team,
wrote a league, probably looking at some names like TJ Friedel, Matt Walner, in the line up here on opening day against the lefty, Cedric Mullins, Willie Castro, Joshua, it's not an exciting group here, Chris, anyone stand out from that group, Friedel, Walner, Mullins, Willie Castro, Joshua.
Yeah, I mean, Walner, I did see a quote from Twins Manager that they're basically going
to use him every day, at least to start the season, we'll see if he can hold his own against lefties, but we know Matt Walner crushes righties, and you know, any extra playing time boost wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing, except for the impact it'll have on his batting
“average, I guess, but yeah, I think Walner, Friedel, are at the top of this list, Castro,”
I think maybe when they're at course, but other than that, Mullins and low are pretty boring to me. I don't know what range of the roster rates we're looking at here, it's kind of like 20 to 40 percent. Okay, because I do have some other guys, Brent and Doyle know in case you're in the 50%
range, they're, you know, Brent and Doyle obviously can do some of the power speed that you were hoping for from Jackson, Cheerio, Owen Casey has a big time power, Cam Smith is at 40 percent rostered. I think there are some questions about how often he's going to play, you know, if it's going to be true every day, but I think there's still some upside-width Cam Smith.
I had Matt Walner listed as well, and a couple of guys specifically for speed, Victor Robless, you know, he had a really good batting average two years ago.
“He's stolen like 45 bases and 130 games since he joined the Mariners, so I think there's”
big stolen base upside there, and Victor Scott for the Cardinals, who figures to play every day, that is strictly a steel specialist, of course, but those are some other names to know. And if you're in a five out of the other 15 team league, I am sorry. I looked at one of my 15 teamers to see what the options were.
It was Trevor Larnick, Parker Meadows, Jake Fraley, Nick Cassayano, it is, yeah, Jonathan India, I think he's going to hit near the top of that line up, Brandon Marsh, it's pretty Gavin Sheet, yeah, it's pretty gross. Isaac Collins, maybe? I wish he was available in my 15 teamer.
Yeah, I'm looking at guys in like the 10 percent rostered range on CBS, so they might not
be available, yeah, there aren't a ton of good options here unfortunately, so that's life in a 15 team, five out of the league, unfortunately. What about the fallout for the Brewers, Jake Bowers is in the lineup, in left field on opening day against right handed pitcher Shane Smith, and an interesting wrinkle, I heard manager Pat Murphy say, Christian Yelage could play more outfield as a result of this injury,
Yelage is Util only on CBS and NFBC on CBS, you need five games in season to gain outfield on NFBC, you need 10, but this could be good news for Yelage to gain outfield even sooner Chris. Yeah, yeah, that's that's one potential wrinkle for this, five games would be, I think
fairly easy to reach within the first month of the season, he got to 19 last year, which
is a bummer, because you need 20 to retain eligibility on CBS and NFBC, so that was frustrating that Christian Yelage didn't quite get there, but yeah, there could be a silver line to that cloud if Christian Yelage gets outfield eligibility a little earlier, which seems possible, and then, you know, a less direct fallout might just be if they're willing
To put Jake Bowers in the lineup against lefties or sorry, in left field, you...
was some concern that maybe Andrew von would be in a quasi-platoon with Jake Bowers, so
“this could give him a little more runway to get hot early and secure a true everyday”
role.
So, you know, could be a positive fallout for Andrew von.
“All right, again, the big bad news, Jackson Chereo has a fractured left hand, he was”
placing the I.L. and expects to miss two to four weeks, we're looking at mid to late April
and hopefully this is an injury that doesn't linger further into the season.
“We are going to wrap there for Chris, I am Frank, thanks as always, for tuning in to”
the fan and CBS fall today, please make sure to follow and leave a five-star rating on Apple or Spotify, and we will be back again later tonight to recap all of opening day, we'll see you there. Bye-bye.
