I was basically kicked out of the army.
I was basically on the fat girl list.
I've struggled with obesity. I know what it's like.
“And I know what it's like to try everything.”
And not get the results that you've wanted. And so when you finally have something that works, you want to tell the whole world about it. Cristino Hurn is a wellness expert, nurse practitioner, and the founder of Innovate My Weight and Wellness.
Drawing from her military service, personal health, journey, and clinical expertise. She empowers women to achieve sustainable weight loss, restore their health, and build lasting confidence through personalized care and evidence-based wellness strategies.
I was born to do this. Well, there's no greater joy than being able to help someone else. And help see the smile on their face. I really feel like when you are called to do something, you're going to do it.
You will do it. You might face a few obstacles, but you know what? That's just going to make you stronger. It spans the glory. Like a super-highest cold.
Into their pelvis. Today, Apple is going to reinvent from home. It's not over. I'm telling how we're-- The living your legacy podcast for those who live to leave a legacy.
As it is, it is possible. Oh, that is sensational, too. Open. [MUSIC PLAYING] You can live your dream.
“Welcome to another episode of Operation CEO.”
Yes. Amazing.
So glad I got to know my first cast.
Joining me today is Christine O'Hurn. Something about Irish Catholics. Yes. Give me a little bit of background before we dive into the boring stuff.
All right. Well, my name is Christine O'Hurn. I am a nurse practitioner from Iowa. Yes, I am. I am the mother of seven.
And then I have two step daughters and four step grandchildren. And I was the Webster County Beef Queen in 1986. I just want to say that. Right on.
Yes. So anyway, yes. All of my friends know that. And when I die, I'm going to have that on my kids all know where my sashes are.
Oh, my God. I have to introduce you to Rudy Moore's wife, Amanda Moore. She is a beauty pageant coach. Oh, thank you. She's literally miss England.
And she happens to be from Tampa, Florida. What does it matter? It's the works. Yes. Exactly.
Exactly. Is that a synergy? Yes. Talk about wearing your pink proudly being an operations CEO.
And what was that experience like for you? It was a lot of fun. Just coming in to the studio, it was kind of--
I've not been to Miami for always been a long time.
Oh, yeah. And coming in to the studio, really haven't done anything like this before. I've done some different things, but nothing like this. So my kids have been calling all day.
And my setting pictures and all that stuff. So anyway, yeah. That's amazing. Well, I appreciate you enjoying the experience. A lot of folks come to Miami thinking this is like a huge
sound studio. And we've had like a thousand people. I'm like, no, this is as Miami as it gets. Like Miami is definitely a very special town. And we do things here differently.
And as you know, we're on 12 in Washington. This, it doesn't get more South Beach than this. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. So how does it feel knowing that you're a monk, you're a pride, you're crew, full of entrepreneurs
that are here helping you build something amazing? I feel very special that I get this opportunity, especially as a veteran. And also as an entrepreneur. And just being able to take my business to another level,
I'm super excited about that. That's amazing. Let's talk about where your journey begins, where you are nurse first and entrepreneur first or were you just you first?
Well, so my journey began a while ago. I was actually in the military first. And then got out, had a bunch of kids, and then went back to school in I was 40 to become a nurse. And yeah, and then became a nurse practitioner
about six, seven years later, then went back into the military, and then after that got out and started my business. So anyway, so yeah, and just I have worked in very, I've also have worked in like,
I work with a lot of veterans. And also do M-A-E-R provider medical provider. So yeah, yeah, lots of fun. So I like the crazy life. That is amazing.
You mentioned crazy life, but I feel like you're a garden angel, like you are an archangel.
“What's that like always being on that mode of serving?”
Sometimes it could get a little tiring. Sure. But it's what brings me joy. Really, it's what brings me joy is to be able to help people, especially with the weight loss
When they think that there's no other options.
I love it when I make help bake someone better, like in the emergency room situation. There's no greater joy than being able to help someone else. And help see the smile on their face and, oh my gosh, this worked, you're right.
I'm so glad I've believed you, you know? So yeah, because I struggled for years with obesity. And I tried everything. I mean, I'm down 120 pounds, have kept it off for two years. For you.
So I've struggled with obesity. I know what it's like. And I know what it's like to try everything. And not get the results that you've wanted.
And so when you finally have something that works,
you want to tell the whole world about it. Oh, for sure, for sure. Where do you feel like your obesity came from?
“Was the depression, was life happens, was it your genes?”
Where do you think obesity really comes from? I feel that for me, obesity is a disease. And I feel that I got that gene. And I'm just going to happen to get that gene. And then I feel like I dealt with depression, anxiety,
raising seven kids at the time, not such a great marriage. And then people eat to kind of numb that pain. Yes, ma'am. So yeah. So I think that it was definitely from those hard times
made the disease worse.
So when-- and in fact, I was basically kicked out
of the army because I was on-- They could do that? Yeah, I was basically on the fat girl list. And I did not make major. And they were like, OK, thanks for your service.
See you later. Yeah, have a good life. And when that happened, that's when I knew I had to do something. And continue to look for options until I found the GLP ones. So yeah, well, pulling a little bit of devil's advocate here.
I'm sure that it didn't scoot you off and through the gift store, not because you were obese and ugly. It was because you were not healthy. I was, yes, exactly. And when you're on the military, you have a certain--
“there are standards that you have to meet.”
And if you don't, you can't do it. And so yes, it broke my heart. But, hello, you have to be able to meet those standards. So I wouldn't say it was obese, but I did go through a moment where I gained 80 pounds of depression of sad weight.
And I remember going through the transition dropping from 190 to 130 and looking a little too thin. But I was camera-right, and I felt confidence fast and sharp. I'm off, I'll filter out the moment, but I'm already in the zone of going, I have to do XYZ because this amount of weight equates,
this amount of happiness, which then equates this amount of money. But that's how entrepreneurs kind of see life in a muscle that only child. How do you perceive life and how is life different for you? You mentioned being a mom to seven children.
You also mentioned serving. What was harder serving or being-- I would say, what's more rewarding?
I would say being a mom to seven amazing souls.
I would say being a parent is the hardest thing. My hits funny because the grandkids that we have are our Joel's daughters, grandkids, and-- So I don't have any grandkids yet. Of course, my children know I am ready for them.
But the doctor is running through this. Let's move, guys. So anyway, but that was the hardest.
“Military-- I think initially, just having that confidence”
to believe in yourself and that you could do it. And then it just got to be a lot of fun. You got to go places and meet friends. And oh, we had a good time. So I would like to ask folks that are in operations.
When you're serving, you kind of see the pattern and the rhythm of the day to day. And you're seeing the SOP of what it's like to be alive and be free, and then to serve, and you're no longer to serve the land.
What do you learn about yourself as a human being when you're in that mode? You learn one that-- well, it's kind of hard for people-- some people to accept that you are not in control because somebody else is in charge.
And that's hard, that's hard. But knowing that this is what you've trained me for. Here I am, take me. So let me do this. Let me do my job.
And that's the biggest thing is that you get all this training to do a job and you're ready to go and ready to do it. And that to me is awesome. It's really cool.
Yeah, it's really cool.
Now, let's talk about being an emergency room nurse.
Is that a provider? Yeah, a nurse practitioner. Yes, yes. What is that until it sounds, it sounds like a lot of hard work. It is hard work.
Yeah, it's hard work. Well, it's hard when, like right now, we're in influenza A season. And back in Iowa, it's busy. It's very busy. And to me, it's challenging because you come in with an issue.
And I have to figure out what that is. And how can I put the pieces of this puzzle together that you're telling me to say, oh, this is what it is. This is how I treat it.
“That's it's often that brain power, it takes to, you know, really, okay, could it be?”
This could it be that.
And I work with an amazing team.
And so we all work together like a team. And so, you know, if there's something I have a question about, I can bounce it off one of the docs. I can bounce it off one of the advanced other advanced practice providers. And I think we do a really good job of taking care of people.
Wow. Can you say, taking care of people, how much of that is folks that are in need of your help when it comes to being hurt and folks that you help ascend as entrepreneurs? I would say, I like to really help the other people, like in my clinic, innovate my weight and wellness.
I love helping them because they come in. They don't think that we're going to be able to help them at all. And we do. We do help them. And they're like, that smile that when they come back is amazing.
And then also, you know, as an entrepreneur, is interesting because my fellow docs and
“advanced practice providers are always asking me questions, Chris, and your business”
do you do this? Do you do that?
You know, I always have in a, just, I love just having this area that I love.
But I focus in because I get to get a lot of questions in the emergency room role as, hey, could this thing help them? And it's like, absolutely. Wow. So yeah.
What do you think a lot of this, these learnings come from, like, I, I, I, I, I speak to a lot of folks that sit here and, they sound like they know what they're talking about, but most of the time, it's a, this divine download. What do you think you're in your energy company? Divine download.
I like that. Divine download. I would say, um, I feel like I was born to do this. Whoa. I feel like, uh, that, you know, I didn't come into nursing until a little bit later.
I had seven kids came in a little bit later. And I feel like that alone sent me a part in nursing school. I wasn't, uh, a young, young nurse that had an experience life yet. You know, I'd experienced a lot of life and, uh, I just think just pouring myself into that and knowing that my kids supported me, um, and my husband and, you know, that they
all support me is just, it's like, okay, I need to be the divine download. I need to be able to learn as much as I can so I can help people in this area because this is the area that really people need help with. So, yeah.
“We said, what will we learn about you in your episode of operations?”
You know, oh, you get to learn about my cow stories. Oh, hello. Yeah. My cow stories. My stories of some stuff that happened while I was in the military and the, the passion
that I have, um, how proud I am of my patients that have chosen to say, yes, to me. Um, also how proud I am of my family. Oh. Well, um, out of the seven kids, not only am I of that trend, but I have four out of seven.
I've two Navy, two Army that are serving or have served and, um, that's pretty cool, too. So, yeah. That's awesome. What do you tell folks that are watching or listening or about to watch episode? You know, folks that have no idea that they are you are going to become you or they need
to hear someone go, you know, what, what's some words of wisdom you, you'd like to share. Don't be afraid. Um, um, or be afraid and just don't go for it. Exactly.
You're going to experience some fear. Oh, yeah. No matter what you do, whether it be, you know, unless the Army become a nurse or, you know, you're going to be afraid that you can't do it. Yeah.
But I really feel like when you are called to do something, you're going to do it. You will do it. You might face a few obstacles, but you know what, that's just going to make you stronger. And so, I tell people all the time, my kids, my, you know, my patients, it's just don't be afraid.
Just if you feel that fear, it's okay. It's normal.
It's natural.
Don't run from that. Wow. So, yeah. Amazing.
How can people learn more about you?
What's your website?
“What's a great way to get in touch with you?”
Um, our website is www.innovatemyway.com. Innovatemyway. Yes. Yes. And you can get a hold of us through that way.
We are in Altuna, Iowa. Altuna is just right outside of Des Moines.
And we have adventure land there a little, the, I was, you know, biggest old amusement parks.
Yeah. And when you start amusement parks, my fair YouTube channels are amusement park or critiques. Oh, yeah. And the design, the whole philosophy, the, the, the funk land is where my fair channel is. Yeah.
I love that. Yeah.
“Adventure land's been around a long time.”
It's just everybody's like, oh, you live our adventure land's at, yeah, exactly. Yeah. Yeah.
Every time we hear someone from Pennsylvania, like, oh, I did as someone from Hershey.
Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, I was like, I love Hershey, that's all I know about. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. Well, go, go me, Mr. Weird. Now you've my Emmy kid.
All right. Well, right on.
“Well, how else could, what, anything else you'd like to say, anything, any closing”
thought? Thoughts? Oh, hello. Any closing thoughts that this experience here at Inside Success has been lovely and really has been lovely, that there has been times where I'm like, oh, my gosh,
did I do the right thing, you know, and the people getting back to me are like, yes, Chris, it's okay. You know, don't freak out, you know, anyway, so that's been a big thing. It's been fun for Joel and I to come down and see my Emmy beach and kind of be a part of it and stuff.
So, we've really enjoyed it a lot. So, welcome to Miami Beach in 2026. No, we're near Miami Beach of 1986, which I'm sure this is what this building is built at. But anyways.
Yeah. Well, welcome to good old Miami. With that, this is Christine Ohorn and you are the founder of Innovate My Weight and Wellness. Yes.
Thank you so much for your time and energy. I am Regretiers. This is Christine and we are Inside Success. [MUSIC]
