>> Live from NPR News in Washington,

I'm core of a coolman.

President Trump says U.S. military strikes

in Iran have been very successful,

speaking at a cabinet meeting that is still underway. Trump says Iranian officials are begging to make a cease-fire deal with his administration. >> And the great negotiators, I say they're lousy fighters,

but they're great negotiators. And they are begging to work out a deal. I don't know if we'll be able to do that. I don't know if we're willing to do that. We should have done that for weeks ago.

They should have done it two years ago. Or they should have done it when we first came into office. >> But Iranian officials have rejected a U.S. cease-fire proposal. Pakistan says it has relayed messages

between U.S. and Iranian officials. Israel's military says it has killed the head

of Iran's revolutionary guard, naval forces.

Pakistani official following negotiations with Iran has confirmed his death. This is Israel's latest assassination

of senior Iranian leaders since it killed

the Supreme Leader nearly a month ago. Etai Stern reports from Tel Aviv. >> Israel's defense minister, Israel cuts, says the military carried out a precise overnight strike, killing Al-Razatan Kthiri, Iran's top naval commander.

Kats says Kthiri was directly responsible for naval mining operations and efforts to block the straight of her mood, a key global shipping route. According to the U.S. Treasury,

which had previously sanctioned him, Tanksiri had the Navy's testing of drones and cruise missiles. Kats says the killing is the latest warning to Iran that it will continue targeting senior leaders and, quote, "operate with full force

to achieve its war goals." For NPR news, I'm U.T. Stern in Tel Aviv. >> Lawmakers are meeting today to consider aviation safety reform, a runway crash in New York killed two pilots on Sunday.

And recently, the National Transportation Safety Board

came out with recommendations. This follows last year's deadly mid-air collision near Ronald Reagan, Washington National Airport, and Piers Christian Wright reports. >> House committees on transportation and armed services

are considering changes to aviation with the goal of making it safer to fly. The Alert Act requires airplanes and helicopters to be equipped with collision prevention technology. The bill also calls for enhanced air traffic-controlled training.

Lawmakers are also considering an audit of the FAA's safety culture, and the legislation proposes strengthening the airspace around Reagan Washington National Airport. 67 people were killed when an American Airlines jet

and Army Black Hawk helicopter collided their last year. Reforms on the table address the NTSB's recommendations after its year-long investigation into the crash. Christian Wright and PR news, Washington. On Wall Street, the Dow is turned negative.

It's now down nearly 90 points. This is NPR. The International Olympic Committee says it's banning transgender women from competition in any women's event.

The rule takes effect at the Los Angeles Summer Games in 2028. Any female athlete who wants to compete in the Olympics will now be required to take a genetic test. The UN General Assembly has passed a resolution declaring the slave trade of African peoples

as the quote "gravest crime against humanity." The resolution was put forward by delegates from Ghana, it calls for reparations and it demands the return of all artistic and cultural items to their countries of origin.

Bill Mar will be receiving the Mark Twain Prize for American humor, after all, as NPR's Elizabeth Blair reports, President Trump does not appear to be a fan of Mar, but the Kennedy Center announced its giving it to him anyway.

After the Atlantic magazine cited anonymous sources saying that Bill Mar would be receiving the prestigious Mark Twain Prize, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt called it fake news. But the Kennedy Center has announced Mar will indeed

be getting the Twain Award. The host of HBO's Real Time with Bill Mar has visited with Trump at the White House,

but he has also been critical of both parties

and Trump in particular. The stock market is going down and I'm request a lot of jobs. And it's like it's even more evil twin replaced his usual evil twin. Trump recently called Mar a lightweight on social media. And a statement from the Kennedy Center more said,

"It is indeed humbling to get anything named for a man who's been thrown out of as many school libraries as Mark Twain. Elizabeth Blair and PR news." You're listening to NPR.
