The House of Representatives has passed its own department of Homeland Security funding
“bill after rejecting one that cleared the Senate early Friday morning.”
The Senate version included all of the regular DHS funding, except for ICE and immigration enforcement by Customs and Border Patrol. MPR's Anna Yucananaf has a report. House Speaker Mike Johnson says representatives are not on board with the Senate plan that would fund most parts of DHS through September, but exclude immigration and customs enforcement
and border patrol. Johnson says the House instead wants to fund the whole department until May 22nd, and he says the president is on board. It's unclear whether the Senate will agree to the maneuver. Senators have already left town, and Democrats have refused to vote for any spending bill
that funds ICE. Separately, President Trump has signed an executive order to pay agents with the TSA as the DHS shutdown hits its 42nd day. Anna Yucananaf and PR News, Washington. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton spoke to attendees of the conservative political action
conference, known as CPAC Friday night. The U.S. Senate candidate is in a run-off election with incumbent Senator John Corden. The Texas Newsroom's play is gaining, has more. But May sure to talk about how he believes his opponent, Corden, hasn't had much success in his decades-long political career.
Let's take the whole 40-plus years of John Corden's career, and let me ask you a question.
“Can anybody in the room name one good accomplishment in 40-plus years?”
Do you know I've never gotten an answer to that question, and I've been doing this for a
year? Corden was invited to attend the event, but instead chose to stay in DC to try and get the Senate to pass the Savet. Imagine that would require citizens to present proof of citizenship in person before completing voter registration.
For MPR News, I'm Blaise Ganey in Great Bond. Tiger Woods has been released on bail following his arrest Friday on suspicion of driving while under the influence, officials say his vehicle clipped a truck and rolled over on its side. Sheriff John Buttensiex says Woods had been traveling at high speeds, and was trying
to pass another vehicle before the crash. They did several tests on him, of course he did explain the injuries and the surges. That he had.
“We did take that into account, but they did do some in-depth roadside tests, and when it”
was determined he was placed under arrest and taken to the Mark County jail. Woods did not test positive for alcohol. The Wall Street Whip Saw continues. The Dow Jones industrial average closed down 793 points on Friday, or 1.73% on ASDAC down 2.15% the S&P 500 1.67% this is NPR.

As many as 11 ships near the US, Canada border had been met with delay as caused by icy conditions in the opening week of the Great Lakes shipping season. As Rick Brewer of Member Station WCMU reports, more than 90% of the nations that iron ore that's used to make steel passes through this region. The US Coast Guard's only heavy icebreaker on the Great Lakes is unable to reach Lake
Superior, to help free ships stuck in ice. Two smaller icebreakers are also down. Eric Peace is with the Lake Carriers Association. A group that represents the interest of the commercial shipping industry. He says steel mills across the Midwest have been waiting 2 months for iron ore shipments,
and further delays could have a ripple effect. "They could have to shut down the steel mills, loose jobs, and American steel wouldn't be produced." A spokesperson for the US Coast Guard said the conditions are challenging, but manageable, and that they're using all the available assets to get ships moving.
