Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Rylan Barton.

President Trump provided dramatic details on how the U.S. military scrambled to rescue two

members of a fighter jet that was shot down deep inside Iran as NPR's Greg Myri reports

and both are now safe and recovering from their injuries. The President said 21 aircraft took part in a risky day-time mission to rescue the pilot

of the downed F-15, reaching the second crew member was even more harrowing.

Trump said 155 aircraft were involved, many sent far from the Airman's actual location in order to confuse Iranians trying to capture him. The President said the Air Force Colonel was badly injured, but managed to reach a mountain crevice well away from the crash side. When he was rescued, two planes were waiting for him at a makeshift air strip on a farm,

but the planes were stuck in wet sand. They were then blown up as lighter planes were called in to fly the Colonel out of Iran. Greg Myri, NPR News, Washington. The National Average for a gallon of regular gasoline is now about $4.12 a quarter

to AAA.

It's $5.93 in California.

The sharply increasing cost has driven search interest in electric vehicles, but what happens?

But what about alternatives to driving it all, NPR's Camilla Dominozki reports?

As the cost of driving goes up, so do the potential savings from things like walking, biking, and taking public transit. The data don't necessarily suggest any widespread shifts in behavior. Public transit ridership went down slightly in March, although ridership continues to rise year over year.

But the scooter in bike app veo says that 2/3 of its users reported replacing a car trip with a shared two wheeler last month because of higher gas prices. And the weeward pedometer app says 44% of its users say they're walking more because of fuel costs. Camilla Dominozki, NPR News.

The federal agency that runs Medicare told health insurance companies today they would get a 2.5 rate increase for 2.5% rate increase for Medicare Advantage Plans in 2027. NPR's Salina Simmons Duffin reports a 2.5% increase for companies that run private Medicare

Advantage Plans is a smaller bump than the last few years, but it's much more than what

the Center for Medicare and Medicaid services proposed in January, 0.09%. That sent health insurance stocks down. Companies lobbied for a bigger increase pointing to rising health costs. The lobbying and market reaction seemed to have made an impact. Medicare official Chris Clump spoke to reporters on Monday.

"We are balancing our stewardship, both in your terms to ability and launch its sustainability while trying to send the rights signals to the market."

The Trump administration has been critical of Medicare Advantage because it costs taxpayers

more per in-worldly than traditional Medicare. Salina Simmons Duffin and PR News. The U.S. stock market drifted higher today ahead of a deadline President Trump has set to bomb Iranian power plants, it's NPR. Savannah Guthrie has returned to NPC's today show for the first time since her mother's

disappearance more than two months ago. Guthrie said it's good to be home. She also says it's hard to go forward not knowing what happened to her mother. There has been no sign of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie since she went missing from her Arizona home on February 1.

A major black student government organization at the University of Missouri will be stripped of its title as Cat Ramcomar of Member Station KBIA reports for other identity-based organizations will also lose funding. The Legion of Black Collegion says it's the only black student government in the country at a predominantly white university.

It's one of four major identity-based organizations of the University of Missouri campus alongside others serving Asian Latino and LGBTQ students. They are now recognized student organizations, sharing funding with 600 other student groups. A Mayum Morgan is a president of the Legion of Black Collegions. We have regular meetings with the administration that they're required to have with us

because we're a student government. The University of Missouri says it's complying with a federal memo targeting diversity, equity, and inclusion programs from last July. For NPR News, I'm Cat Ramcomar in Columbia, Missouri. The new space-movie project hail Mary starring Ryan Gosling got rave reviews from space.

Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen says he and his Artemis two crewmates got to watch the film with their families before launching from Earth. He said it was fun watching the movie while getting ready for his own space adventure. Fellow Canadian Ryan Gosling sent best wishes to the four astronauts ahead of lift off. To a stock market drifted higher today, this is NPR News from Washington.
