the U.S. military is poised to resume attacks on Iran if Iranian negotiators do not agree
“to a deal with the U.S. in a news conference last hour Hegset appeared to speak to Iranian”
leaders. "We are locked and loaded.
On your critical dual-use infrastructure, on your remaining power generation and on your
energy industry. We'd rather not have to do it. But we're ready to go at the command of our President and at the push of a button." But legal observers say any U.S. attacks on Iranian power stations that serve civilians can also be a war crime.
Separately, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Cain says the U.S. military will pursue any ship anywhere in the world that tries to offer material support to Iran. President Trump has suggested online the leaders of Lebanon and Israel could soon speak, although that has not been confirmed by officials from either country. And beer's Eleanor Bearsley reports, this comes as Israel invades southern Lebanon and targets
has below militants.
“"Israel is coming under mounting pressure from the Trump administration to end the current”
intensive fighting with Hezbollah and Lebanon, as talks between the U.S. and Iran are expected
to continue. But speaking overnight, Israeli Army spokesman Major General Effi Defran said plans have been approved for ongoing attacks on Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, where Israel wants to create a buffer zone against the Iran-backed militant group. A recent poll carried out by Israeli Research Institute, INSS, shows most Israelis are
against ending the war against Hezbollah in Lebanon, with 69% of Israeli saying they support a continuation of the military campaign, Eleanor Bearsley and Pierre News, Tel Aviv." A new analysis of the online bedding site polymarket shows, one trader made more than $300,000 bedding on former President Biden's "partens." As empires Bobby Allen reports, legal experts say it appears to have been a person with
insider information. Most of the more than $300,000 in profits discovered by the French analytics firm bubble
“maps came from a winning streak of bets placed in the final hours Biden was an office,”
and he preemptively pardoned Senator Adam Schiff for him a representative of Liz Cheney and others. Polymarket is a crypto-based prediction market site that mainly operates overseas. It's main competitor, Calshy, is federally regulated, but dozens of states are fighting its legal status in court.
And so without clear regulation and clear stricter enforcement, you know, the gray zone becomes larger, and more questions will and should be asked. That's New Zonpakkin, who studies the prediction market industry at Peru College in New York. Several major global events recently have led to suspected insider trading on polymarket. Polymarket didn't immediately return a request for comment, Bobby Allen and Pierre News.
"You're listening to NPR." The Pentagon says the U.S. military has conducted another boat strike in the eastern Pacific Ocean. The military says it killed three alleged drug traffickers yesterday, but provided no evidence of their ties to drug smuggling.
This is the fourth such strike since the weekend, and the U.S. military has killed at least 175 people in similar attacks since last fall. The Trump administration appears close to nominating a new director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Pierre's ping-hoong reports on the leading candidate. Dr. Eric Ashwarz previously served as Chief Medical Officer of the U.S. Coast Guard and Deputy
Surgeon General in the first Trump administration. She could be announced as President Trump's pick for CDC Director, as early as the week, according to an administration official, who wasn't authorized to speak to the media about the deliberations. Earlier this month, Schwarz posted a video to Instagram for National Public Health Week.
"Now, when I was in military position, my job was all about readiness. It was all about public health prevention, vaccines, early detection." In response to a request for comment on Schwarz's candidacy, White House spokesman Kush De Sai said it was baseless speculation, unless officially announced by the White House.
