President Trump says the U.S. Navy seized an Iranian flagged ship that tried to get past
“the U.S. blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.”
Meanwhile, Trump says negotiations with Iran on ending the war will resume and pocused on tomorrow, though Iran hasn't said it will attend, and in a post on X, Iranian state media says the U.S. keeps changing its mind, and that makes the chance of talks bleak. And Pierce Tamarquit has more. In a social media post this morning, he said U.S. officials would be returning to Islamabad
late Monday for more negotiations. But then he also resumed his threats to target civilian infrastructure. If Iran doesn't make a deal, quote, "We're offering a very fair and reasonable deal, I hope they take it because if they don't, the United States is going to knock out every single power plant and every single bridge in Iran, no more Mr. Nice guy exclamation
point."
And Pierce Tamarquit reporting is really troops remain active in southern Lebanon as
the ceasefire holds. And Pierce Daniel Estrin has more. Israel says its troops remain inside Lebanon up to six miles deep from the Israeli border. Israel calls it a security zone to act against threats to northern Israel. The Israeli military published a graphic showing the approximate area where five military
divisions, tens of thousands of soldiers, are destroying infrastructure. Israel says it's connected to the Hezbollah militia. Israel is prohibiting displaced Lebanese civilians from returning to dozens of villages in the area Israel is occupying. During the ceasefire, two Israeli soldiers in Lebanon were killed by previously planted explosives,
and Israel says has "Bull of Fire" killed a French UN peacekeeper clearing unexploded
ordnance in Lebanon, Daniel Estrin and PR News, Tel Aviv.
In Shreepport, Louisiana, at least eight children are dead, ranging in age from 1 to 14, after a domestic disturbance turned into a mass shooting. Police Corporal Chris Bord Leon says the gunman has been identified as Shamar Elkins, and that seven of the children shot and killed are believed to be his. The mother of the children was also shot and had very serious injuries, although we are hopeful
she will recover. There's another female that was in this resident residence that has life threatening injuries. We are hopeful that she will pull through. Speaking there to KSLA news, the gunman is also dead, there's no word on a motive. Energy Secretary Chris Wright says the average price of a gallon of gas may not drop
below $3 until next year. This says the war on Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz continues to hit energy markets hard. Since the war started in February, crude oil prices and the costs of gas at the pump has been rising, triple-ase is the price of a gallon is $4.4 nationwide today.
You're listening to NPR News. Ladies across the Upper Midwest are cleaning up after two NATO's and severe weather impacted the region over the weekend. And Pierce Andalis Duster has more on the damage. The National Weather Service says numerous severe storms retract across parts of Iowa,
Illinois and Missouri on Friday. The tornadoes and severe storms knocked out power for thousands and destroyed buildings. In Illinois, the National Weather Service says a strong tornado caused the most significant damage in the village of Lena. Many homes that outbuildings were damaged, trees were uprooted, and power lines were
downed. Stevenson County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Andy Schroeder told NPR they are strongly
“discouraging non-essential travel into the area.”
Tornadoes were also reported in Wisconsin and Iowa, Shantelis Duster and PR News. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says Canada's strong economic ties to the U.S. were once a strength but are now a weakness that has to be corrected. He spoke in a video released today on strengthening the Canadian economy by attracting new investments and signing trade deals with other countries, saying the world is more
"dangerous and divided." He also says the U.S. changed its approach to trade by raising tariffs to levels lasting in the Great Depression impacting workers in major industries, including auto and steel prompting businesses to hold back on investments. He was features contracts, or trading lower at this hour, doubt futures down about

“What we're living through, I think, is really the two parties taking opposite sides on”
whether we want to keep making this type of social progress or whether we want to go back in time.
