"Li from NPR News," I'm Lakshmi saying.
Shipping companies in organizations say there is a lack of information about President Trump's
new plan to help guide commercial ships through the straight of Hormuz. Iran is threatening to attack any commercial vessels and US warships that try to transit
“the key waterway without its permission.”
Here's NPR's Jackie Northam. President Trump announced this so-called "project freedom on Sunday" but gave no details about how it will work, especially as Iran has not signed on to the plan. The International Transport Workers Federation says at the moment there's little clarity of how project freedom will provide safe evacuation and that no seafarer or ship should
be asked to transit the straight of Hormuz without a full guarantee of safety. Hapag Lloyd, one of the largest shipping companies in the world in which has several vessels
stuck around the straight, says in a statement that its risk assessment remains unchanged
and that the straight of Hormuz remains closed for Hapag Lloyd until further notice. Jackie Northam, NPR News The US Supreme Court is temporarily allowing women seeking abortions to obtain the film if a press down through the mail or at a pharmacy without having to visit their doctor in person. The High Court blocked a federal appeals court ruling that imposed restrictions last
week. Dr. Veronica Lispie Bell, an OBGYN in New Orleans is the one week pause, will cause uncertainty.
“I think it causes a lot of confusion, not just for patients but for physicians as well.”
I think for patients the fact that there is any ban then starts to create some distrust as to whether the medication is safe or not and again just confusion as to how to even be able to access it. Lispie Bell, speaking with NPR's here and now, lawmakers in Alabama are being called into special session today in Montgomery to start redrawing the state's congressional map.
Follows last week's ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court that weakened the key provision of the voting rights act. Kyle Gassett with Troy Public Radio has more. Two of the seven congressional representatives from Alabama are black and are Democrats. They were both elected in 2024 after Supreme Court decision ruled Alabama had diluted the
power of black residents. Now, with last week's decision, Republicans in the red state seen opportunity to draw maps that will favor them. Kirk D. Carrington marched in summer on Bloody Sunday in 1965 for changes in the law that became the voting rights act.
The things that was in the voting right was put at people that was being suppressed. Now you want to come back and repeat history. Alabama joins other southern states that are moving to redraw maps, possibly in time for the upcoming midterm elections. From PR News, I'm Kyle Gassett in Montgomery, Alabama.
You're listening to NPR News. Scores of people on board a cruise ship with a suspected hot-of-virus outbreak are waiting for help off the coast of Cape Verde in the Atlantic. Many people have already died and three others have become seriously ill. But local governments still denying the ships request to dock because of public health concerns.
A had a virus can spread when particles from rodent droppings or urine become airborne. The World Health Organization says it's rare to catch the had a virus from another human being. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani spokesman says the Republican is hospitalizing
a critical but stable condition, it's undisclosed what sent the 81-year-old to the hospital.
