But it's hard to say exactly why Iran launched these attacks, but the timing, of course, suggests it has to do with the U.S. decision to launch this project freedom, you know,

to try and open up the straight-up for moves. And it's great, says the U.S. shooting down of some Iranian drones and missiles and attacking some smaller Iranian ships today. The U.A. is an ally of the U.S. and supports it in the war against Iran. And these attacks on the U.A. could be Iran's way of retaliating.

In a social media post, Iran's foreign minister warned that the U.S. and the U.A.

should be wary of being dragged back into a quackmire. Trump administration, suing Minnesota, to try to block the state's lawsuit against

the fossil fuel industry, impairs Michael Kapli reports on this latest effort by the

administration to shield oil and gas companies from a wave of climate litigation. The Justice Department says Minnesota should be barred from suing the fossil fuel industry over the impacts of climate change, because it argues the federal government has sold authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. Minnesota's lawsuit filed in 2020 alleges the fossil fuel industry must lead people for

decades about the dangers of burning fossil fuels. The state says it's already suffered billions in economic damage from rising temperatures. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said this new DOJ suit is "meritless and should be dismissed." The oil and gas industry says the same for climate lawsuits like Minnesota's.

The trash dump in till till 60 kilometers north of Santiago tops the list of 50 human origin sites with more than 100,000 tons of methane emitted per year, surpassing even industrial oil and gas facilities elsewhere on the planet. The study based on data from nearly 30 satellites also identified another Chilean landfill among the 10 largest global emitters highlighting the impact of waste management on the climate

crisis.

The report says the emission sources released the amount of methane comparable to 24 million

gas powered cars driven for one year. For NPR news, I'm John Bartler, in Santiago, Chile.
