Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Libby Casey.

President Trump has signed a long-awaited executive order on artificial intelligence.

It contains voluntary asks for AI companies that's meant to address security around the

technology. NPR's Deepa Shiveram has more. The executive order was expected to come out last month after the Trump administration decided to reverse course and tackle some safety measures around AI, which they were staunchly opposed to at first.

But then, at the last minute, Trump pulled back on his plans to sign it, saying he had concerns it would stifle the U.S. as lead in the global AI race. The order he did sign sets out to design a voluntary framework with AI developers, and asks that the company's sharefront here AI models with the federal government up to 30 days before they get released.

Any actual regulations or mandates around the technology would have to come from Congress.

This morning, the top Democrat on the Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Jean Shaheen,

criticized him for leaving Congress out of decisions or basic information. "I've requested a briefing on changes to U.S. force posture in Europe, and after 33 days, we still have no response. We've requested a briefing from the Iran War on displacement. After 90 days, we still have no response.

We've asked for a briefing on Ukraine on a number of issues. After 180 days, we still have no response." Shaheen also raised concerns about the U.S. military's declining stockpile of advanced weapons used in the Iran War. Russia has launched a massive attack on Ukraine, according to Ukrainian officials at least

18 people were killed in the city of Nipro, and six more were killed in the Capitol Kiev, and PR's Polina let Venovat report from Kiev. Authorities believe Ukraine's president will dimmer the landscape road on social media

that Russia used more than 600 drones and 73 measles, most of them were shot down by air

defenses. It's primary election day in six states, New Jersey, Iowa, Montana, South Dakota, New Mexico, and California, where there are competitive house primaries, the Los Angeles, Mayoral, primary, and the governor's race with the primary field in which the top two voters will advance to the general election, regardless of their party affiliation. Democrats are hoping to make inroads in Iowa while a New Jersey Republicans are worried about

the house seat of Tom King Jr. who has been absent from Congress for three months for undisclosed medical reasons. President Trump endorsed him this week in the primary. The Vegas Golden Nights and the Carolina Hurricanes will face off tonight in game one of the NHL Stanley Cup final.
