Life from NPR News and Washington, I'm Windsor Johnston.

Photers in Maine head to the polls Tuesday for a closely-watched democratic Senate primary,

frontrunner Graham Platner is seeking the nomination to challenge Republican Senator Susan Collins in November. NPR's Tamarquete reports Platner has faced scrutiny over a series of controversies. So this started with offensive old Reddit post that he deleted, then last fall there was a firestorm over a skull in crossbones tattoo he got on his chest in 2007.

He swore he didn't know the symbol was associated with the Nazis and got it covered with a wolf tattoo. Then last weekend it came out that his wife revealed that early in their marriage, she caught him sexting with a number of other women. Platner is fighting back and also explaining that a lot of his behavior was the result of

difficulty adjusting to life after his military service. That's NPR's Tamarquete reporting, despite the fallout party leaders have continued

to back Platner's campaign and a raised Democrat C is key to winning back the U.S. Senate.

A search is underway for the suspects who opened fire at a street festival in Toledo last night, leaving at least 12 people injured. George Crawl, the city's director of public safety is asking residents for any information that would help in the investigation. I am employing my fellow Toledoans to look through your cell phone video and reach out

to TPD and help them catch the people who did this. Toledo Councilman John Hobbs also spoke shortly after the shooting. What happened is not a reflection of what our city is and what we stand for. So we are hoping that as a community we will come together and get this solved quickly.

To victims remain in critical condition, authorities say they haven't decided whether the

festival will reopen today. For people have died on North America's tallest mountain over the last couple of weeks. She'll be herber with the Alaska Public Media Report, the latest fatality is one of Denali

National Park and Preserves, own Rangers.

Robin Pendry of Washington State was a seasonal mountaineering Ranger with Denali National Park. The National Park Service says she was out on a climbing patrol when she fell into a crevasse, despite rescue efforts, Pendry died on Thursday afternoon. The week prior, three other climbers died after a fall on another part of the mountain.

They were members of a Latvian mountaineering expedition traversing a route with several exposed sections. Denali sees climber fatalities almost every few years, though park employee deaths are uncommon. The National Park Service says it's investigating these incidents.

For NPR News, I'm Shelby Herbert in Fairbanks. This is NPR. Photers in Peru are heading to the polls today to elect their new president.

Recent surveys indicate most people are deeply unhappy with the stark far left versus

the far right choice. Quarter Simeon Tagal has more from Lima.

For the third time in the last four elections, Peruvian's face a polarizing choice of

presidential candidates. Far right candidate, Kaco Fukimori, or a far left opponent, Roberto Sanchez. The election comes after years of political chaos, runaway corruption, and rising street crime. Many voters blame the outgoing scandal-wrapped Congress, dominated by Kaco's popular force

party. She is promising to build maximum security prisons, and send the army into the streets. Sanchez, a member of that Congress, plans the Nationalized Large Chunks of the Economy and Curb imports. The tightly-contested election is expected to be decided by the unusually high number

of undecided voters, who are dissatisfied with both candidates. For NPR News, I'm Simeon Tagal in Lima, Peru. The Vegas Golden Knights beat the Carolina Hurricanes five to four on Saturday night to take a two-to-one lead in the Stanley Cup final. The teams take two days off before meeting in game four on Tuesday night in Las Vegas.

The NBA finals shift to New York on Monday, the next hold at two games to non-lead over the spurs. New York 1, both games in San Antonio, including a one-point victory in game two, President Trump is expected to attend Monday night's match-up. This is NPR News.
