Live from NPR news in Washington, I'm Dan Ronin.

Republican Senator Susan Collins of Maine will face political newcomer, Graham Platner, in the November General of Election.

Collins ran unopposed in Tuesdays GOP primary.

Platner easily won the Democratic primary, despite recent questions about his personal life.

The Maine Senate seat is considered critical of Democrats or to gain control of the Senate.

In Governor Janet Mills had been on the Democratic ballot, but she suspended her campaign. U.S. Central Command announced tonight it is concluded what it calls self-defense strikes against Iran. NPR's Quil Lawrence reports the action wasn't response to the Iranian-downing of a U.S. helicopter. SENTCOM said it was responding to what President Trump has confirmed was in Iranian strike

that down the U.S. attack helicopter. SENTCOM called the mission "proportional response" to unjustified Iranian aggression, though the two countries are at war. The helicopter crew members are in stable condition after being picked up in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz by an unmanned American rescue boat.

A group of Western nations is calling on Israel to grant increased humanitarian access to Gaza, and to lighten the new registration laws impacting the international non-government organizations working with Palestinians, and PR's Eleanor Beardsley reports.

The nations, which include France, the UK, 17 other European countries, and Japan, say they're profoundly concerned about the catastrophic humanitarian situation that persists in Gaza in their joint statement. The signatories say aid entering Gaza has remained largely insufficient, both in quantity and quality, at a time when nearly the entire population depends on life-saving services.

Limited border crossing hours already constrict the flow of aid. They say new restrictions on international NGOs would severely limit their capacity to respond in areas such as water, sanitation, field hospitals, education, nutrition, and demining efforts. The crew for the next Artemis mission is set as Central Florida Public Media's brand

and burn reports the agency wants to launch a critical test flight called Artemis 3 next

year. Three U.S. astronauts and one from Italy will test the ability of the Orion spacecraft to dock with two landers built by SpaceX and Blue Origin. The mission will remain in low Earth orbit. What the crew learns from this mission will help take astronauts to the moon in 2028 and

land them on the lunar surface. The administrator charged the agency with launching Artemis 3 by the end of next year. In common, Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Democratic Challenger, Dr. Annie Andrews will face off in November for the U.S. Senate seat in South Carolina.

Both Graham and Andrews easily won their primary races in the South Carolina Governor's race, the current lieutenant governor, Pamela Evett, who was backed by President Trump will face the state's attorney general, Alan Wilson, in a June runoff election. Workers at Sulfi Stadium in Los Angeles have reached a tentative deal with their employer. It aburts a strike just days before the World Cup.

The agreement comes at a critical moment.

The first of eight World Cup matches at Sulfi Stadium is on Friday. The 2000 workers represented by unite here local 11 had voted to authorize a strike, demanding wage increases and protections from ICE, which will play a role in tournament security. Union spokesperson Maria Hernandez says they won both. Under the new contract workers will maintain the right to strike over safety concerns,

including the presence of immigration agents. "And that is unprecedented. Usually when you've been a contract, the workers give up the right to strike." A spokesperson for Legends Global, the company that runs Sulfi's concessions, said in a statement that it's pleased with the deal.

In the California governor's race, Republican Steve Hilton will face former California Attorney General and Biden Cabinet member Xavier Bacera in the November election, Hilton was declared the winner as the male in votes were tabulated and he moved into second place.
