a Psylla University in Sweden say the level of conflict in 2025 was the highest since 1946.
There was 65 active conflicts in 2025, they said, in which almost a quarter of a million people
were killed. Of those eight were wars between countries, the rest were internal conflicts. The Ukraine Russia war was the deadliest, accounting for 62% of all battle-related deaths. It was followed by Gaza and then Sudan data showed. The conflict in Sudan also drove a historical spike in deliberate one-sided violence targeting non-combatants.
