Global oil prices are down sharply after President Trump announced to deal with Iran that will be signed this week.
“The global benchmark is down nearly 4% to around $84, as Imperial's Camila Dominozki reports,”
markets have been anticipating a deal.
Trump's first post about a deal came shortly before oil futures markets opened for the
week on Sunday evening, and prices promptly dropped like a rock. And oil futures had already fallen significantly on Thursday and Friday in anticipation of a deal. Traders have gotten their hopes up for a reopened straight-of-war move repeatedly since the U.S. and Israel started this war, but oil prices have not been this low since the very
first days of the conflict. Trump's second post on the deal says the straight will be reopened when the deal is signed Friday, quote, "for purposes of mine removal," Camila Dominozki and PR News. The G7 summit opens tomorrow in the French Alps, where President Trump will meet the leaders of the world's 6 other largest economies to tackle some of the world's thorniest
problems.
Imperial's Eleanor Bearsley reports, "Security will be tight."
“Thousands of protesters turned out Sunday and neighboring Geneva, Switzerland, against what”
they say is the over-concentration of political and economic power in G7 nations. The French town of Evianly buys under lockdown and practically deserted, as it prepares for the arrival of leaders from the U.S. Canada France, Germany, the UK, Italy, and Japan. The two days of meetings will be secured by thousands of French riot police, cybercrime and anti-terrorism squads, bomb disposal units, drone pilots, helicopters, and close to
a thousand military personnel from the French air and space force. Eleanor Beardsley and PR News, Paris. The number of screw-wormed cases continues to rise, according to the Department of Agriculture there are now 12 confirmed infestations, 11 in Texas, 1 in New Mexico. Texas Public Radio's David Martin Davies has more.
The latest confirmed case of the New World screw-worm is in a sheep in Sutton County, 135 miles northwest of San Antonio. The tracking of the flesh-eating parasite shows it has moved beyond the Texas Mexico border zone and into the Texas Hill Country.
“The screw-worm is a parasitic fly that attacks cattle, sheep, goats, wildlife, pets, and”
rarely people. A screw-worm fly lays hundreds of eggs in an open wound or body opening such as a nose in a living, warm-blooded animal. The rapid infestation can be deadly. Livestock owners are being urged to inspect animals regularly and immediately report a suspected
infestation to a veterinarian. Screw-worm poses a potentially devastating threat to the cattle industry. For NPR News on David Martin Davies in San Antonio. U.S. Futures contracts are trading higher at this hour NASDAQ futures are up 1.6% down futures up about 3/4 of a percent.
This is NPR. It's day four of the FIFA World Cup co-hosted here in the United States. One of the most surprising match results so far has a direct impact on the Americans' chances. And here's Becky Sullivan has more.
Saturday night's game between Turkey and Australia was a preview of the next two opponents for the U.S. men's team in this World Cup. Australia was the underdog. Turkey has more players in Europe's top tier leagues including bonafide stars like Real Madrid's Art of Goulaire and the Uventus attacker, Kenan Yildas.
But the Sakurus stunned Turkey by winning two nil. That sets up next Friday's USA Australia game to be a big one. If the Americans win, they will be in the driver's seat for their group and a great position in the knockout bracket. In other games, Brazil and Morocco drew one-to-one, as did Qatar and Switzerland.
Curacao officially became the smallest country ever to play in the World Cup, and it's off debut they faced four-time champion Germany who blew them out seven to one. Becky Sullivan and PR news. At the weekend box office, Steven Spielberg's disclosure day took the top spot with an estimated $44 million in ticket sales.
The film crossed 115 million to produce.
In second place, the Indy horror film obsession with $19 million in its fourth weekend so far
the film's made $224 million worldwide, that's against a $1 million production cost. In third place, the way in Brothers Scary Movie sequel with 14 million, this is the sixth film in the franchise, rounding out the top five, eight, twenty-four's horror, backroas, and masters of the universe.
