The Trump administration has repeatedly tried to deport Haitians who were living in the U.S. legally under temporary protected status. TPS was enacted by Congress in 1990 to protect people who cannot return to their home countries because their safety would be imperiled by war, civil unrest, or natural disasters. At the Supreme Court in April, the Trump administration sought once again to deport Haitians. Many of whom have lived in the U.S. for decades.
With a decision expected in the coming weeks, lawyers for the Haitians today filed papers, asking the high court to dismiss the case, because the Trump Justice Department, they said,
