"Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Dan Rumman.

Celebrations on the National Mall will continue after thunderstorms moved into the area, NPR's Shondalese Duster reports." Freedom to 50 organizers said the salute to America's celebration will move forward on the National Mall. They said, quote, "Rain or shine, the American people deserve a celebration worthy of

our nation's historic 250th birthday. Earlier in the evening, thousands on the National Mall had been ordered to evacuate and seek shelter as severe storms move into the Washington, D.C. area.

U.S. Secret Service said those who evacuated the area would have to be screened again before

entering. July 4th events have already been delayed or canceled because of the dangerous heat that made temperatures fill up to 115 degrees. Shondalese Duster and PR News." Republican lawmakers defunded some health care providers that offered abortion with the

one big, beautiful billback. As NPR salinas Simmons' duffins reports, the provision lasted only a year and it is now over. Under the provision, when patients enrolled in Medicaid came to plan parenthood and several other organizations for cancer screenings and annual exams, etc., Medicaid would not reimburse

them for those visits.

It's been a long-time goal of anti-abortion rights activists and it was enacted for the first

time last July 4th, but only for a year because of Senate rules, which means that

now those organizations can bill Medicaid for non-abortion services again.

There was pressure on congressional Republicans from anti-abortion groups to extend the defunded provision, but with slim majorities and many other priorities, it didn't happen before Congress won on recess. Salinas Simmons' duffin and PR News. The World Cup continues.

There are now 14 teams fighting for the spot to be the World Champion. PR's Jasmine Gars reports on who's left and what we can expect as the tournament continues to move forward. Some of the games have been played in intense heat and have been intensely heated. Friday's match between defending World Cup champions Argentina and Cape Verde is being

called one of the most exciting games in World Cup history and players altercated strong words during Frances Game against Paraguay on several occasions. Many of the teams still standing are the soccer powerhouses, France, Spain, Brazil and Argentina, who are led by players considered the best in modern football, French captain Killian and Bapé, and Argentine captain Leonetta Messie.

On Sunday, Brazil plays Norway in New York and England faces off with Mexico at the Ashtica Stadium. The final will be played in New Jersey on July 19th, Jasmine Gars and PR News Miami. Ukrainian drones over the weekend struck an oil terminal in St. Peter'sburg, Russia as Ukraine ramps up its attacks.

The country, the president of that country called it a large long-range sanction against Russia. This is NPR. A federal judge in New York City today rejected a request from President Trump's lawyers

to delay payment to the writer E. Jean Carroll after she won a 5.8 million dollar judgment

against him. The judge Lewis Kappen denied the request and said that President Trump must respond by July 7. 250 years ago, the second continental congress approved the idea of the declaration of independence.

It's not the only legacy of the modern congress and PR Sam Gringlass reports. The continental congress did not look much like today's institution, but it represented the glimmers of a fledgling representative government. As 13 disparate colonies slowly coalesced around independence, democratic congressman Brendan Boyle's Philadelphia district is home to independence hall.

He organized a congressional delegation there to mark the anniversary. To return to the room where it all began and remind ourselves that we are the inheritors of this great tradition.

Boyle says congress is not always successful at safeguarding that inheritance as the legislative

branch sees more authority to the executive, but he says he and many of his colleagues do feel the burden of living up to the aspirations of the founding era. Sam Gringlass and PR News Washington. Stock traders on Monday will have another option when it comes to where to place their money. The Dallas-based Texas Stock Exchange officially opens as a competitor to the NYSE and

Nasdaq State officials say they hope that it will solidify Texas as a financial hub.
