The heat wave that smothered much of the eastern United States this week is easing, but

only slightly, many cities opened up cooling centers and offered water to people without

access to air conditioning this week, and many outdoor events were rescheduled or delayed. In Kansas City, the temperature at the start of the World Cup match between Columbia and Ghana in Kansas City was 88 degrees when the game kicked off the heat index was 96. In the nation's capital meanwhile, great the great American state fair shut down early on Friday because it was simply too hot on the national mall downtown.

Many of the fair chrome supporters like the event, joined Lehman at Fluent from California, joined the exhibits from different states, it's a privilege to live in this country, and

then to be able to celebrate it in such a great way, I just I wanted to be in the middle of it. Others see the fair as an extension of Trump, who's a 10 promoting Trump investment account and a faith and family pavilion filled with conservative Christian groups, Robert Chase teaches history at Stony Brook University.

I think Donald Trump has tried to associate himself with this event, and to associate

dislike with him with dissent and unpatriotic acts. That's kind of problematic. Chase says that's one reason why attendance at the fair has been so thin, Frank Lankford and PR news, Washington. Climate forecasters say the plan of this facing a hot year ahead, that's because the seasonal

El Nino plant a pattern is strengthening and appears Lauren Summer has more on that story. The chances for a strong or even super El Nino this year are increasing, that's according to a new report from the World Meteorological Organization. El Nino is a natural climate pattern, where warm ocean waters spreads across the central Pacific Ocean.

That can affect the weather, like bringing more extreme rain to the southern US. El Nino also raises temperatures globally, with average temperatures already hotter because of climate change, El Nino years are often the hottest years on record. Lauren Summer and PR news.

The Supreme Court released its final decisions of the term this week.

Now the analysis begins in Paris, Tamara Keith says the biggest winner was President Trump. With only a handful of exceptions, this was a very good Supreme Court term for President Trump and his agenda. The conservative court majority gave him even more executive power this term, saying that presidents can fire commissioners from government agencies, agencies that were designed

by Congress to be independent. This Trump himself put it, quote, "this decision gives tremendous additional power back to the presidency where it belongs." That's NPR's Tamara Keith with our report and you're listening to NPR News. American troops who were deployed to Nigeria earlier this year to help fight Islamist militants

the prime suspect in a bombing in Monaco Monday that apparently targeted a Ukrainian tycoon with ties to Russia. Three people were injured in that attack and media reports say the business man was among those hurts. K-vert has been a standout in this year's World Cup and Friday night they continued to impress the team from the small island nation pushed Argentina into extra time before

finally losing three-two. The mass between Egypt and Australia ended in extra time as a one-one time, but in a shootout Egypt came out on top four-two, it was their first time playing in the knockout round.
