"Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Wilman.

President Trump makes partisan politics with patriotic appeals Saturday night as he commemorated the 250th anniversary of American independence. Speaking on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., he appealed to what he called America's greatness.

"Americans must never forget that we are a historic and heroic people with a heroic spirit

and a heroic purpose on this beautiful earth of ours. We are made, the courage and the fire and the flesh and the blood of the best and the bravest people this world has ever produced. We are the bravest and the best." The celebration was delayed for two hours because of a major storm system moving nearby,

several severe weather canceled 4th of July celebrations in a number of other cities, including Hartford, Connecticut and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The US territories of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands are bracing for a monster Typhoon that four castors say could have catastrophic effects on the islands. Member Station KPRG's Dana Williams reports from Guam.

"With winds of 155 miles per hour, super typhoon Bobby is expected to intensify over the next 24 hours before passing near the island of Roda in the western Pacific. About 50 miles north of Anderson Air Force Base on Guam.

Residents spent the July 4th weekend gathering supplies, gassing up vehicles and securing

their homes. Local governments have opened emergency shelters, flights have been canceled and seaports have suspended commercial operations. The Northern Mariana is still recovering from typhoons in Laku, which knocked out power and water service to the islands in April." A federal judge in New York is demanding the Justice Department provide a good reason for

why the government is dropping a criminal case against one of India's richest men. The federal judge in New York is giving prosecutors until July 13 to explain why exactly they're dropping a criminal case against Billionaire Gotham Adani. He was indicted back in October 2024. He's been accused of paying millions of dollars to bribe Indian government officials.

At the same time, he and some officials with his company allegedly lie to U.S. investors about following anti-Bribery laws. The Justice Department told the court last month its dropping charges, but the judge refused to immediately grant this dismissal.

Prosecutors faced a similar pushback from a different judge last year when they tried to dismiss

a corruption case against former New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

Ultimately, judges don't have the authority to force prosecutors to take a case.

Jacqueline Diaz and PR News. The funeral for Iran's Supreme Leader began on Saturday, the morning will end on Thursday when he is buried, 86-year-old Iatola Ali Hamanai and four of his family members were killed in February during air strikes by U.S. and Israeli forces. Three people died in seven others were injured after a boat capsized this weekend on a Wisconsin lake. The incident took places a major storm was underway. The storm also damaged buildings and knocked down trees and power lines. Freedom Williams has withdrawn from her Wimbledon Doublesmatch with Sister Venus due to a knee

injury. PR's Chloe Valpen reports that the 22-time Doubles Champions had planned a team up Saturday

for a grand slam match for the first time since 2022.

The 44-year-old tennis stars injury occurred during a singles match against Australia's Maya joint earlier this week, which Williams lost. Doctors have to drain fluid from her swollen knee. In a video on her Instagram, Williams can be seen limping down a narrow corridor in shorts and t-shirt with a huge white bandage covering most of her right-plag.

In the post's comments, Williams wrote that she was heartbroken to have to withdraw from the match and that the opportunity to play alongside her sister, again, meant the world to her. Williams also hinted to her fans about her potential comeback. All I can say is stay tuned to a city near you. She wrote Chloe Valpen MP on news.

In World Cup action, Morocco became the only team from Africa to make it into the quarter finals more than once when they outplayed Canada for a three-nil win Saturday. The law sends a historic run for Canada, which won its first ever knockout round game this past week. And in Boston, Killian Mabopi scored his 19th career World Cup goal as France survived

100 degree weather in Philadelphia to be Paraguay 1-nil. He converted the penalty kick in the 70th minute. I'm Dale Wilman, NPR News.
