Live from NPR News and Washington, I'm Mr.

President Trump marked the nation's 250th birthday with a speech on the National Mall in

Washington, DC last night, record breaking heat and severe thunderstorms forced a temporary

evacuation, and PR's deepest shiver on reports the event resumed with Trump using the address to praise American exceptionalism, patriotism, and military strength. Trump spoke for roughly 40 minutes on the National Mall where crowds had been evacuated hours before due to weather conditions. Trump's remarks wove through American history as he welcomed veterans to the stage and praised

the U.S. military. "We are made, the courage, and the fire, and the flesh, and the blood of the best, and the

bravest people this world has ever produced. We are the bravest and the best."

He also mentioned other significant people in history, including David Crocket and the Wright brothers, and he brought the crew of the Artemis II mission on stage, saying that America has gone to the moon and would next go to Mars. Deepish Ivoram and PR News, Washington.

China and Russia are kicking off joint naval drills off the coast of eastern China today,

and PR's Emily Fang reports the exercises demonstrate the two countries, increasing military cooperation. China and Russia have been holding joint naval exercises since the early 2000s, and these naval drills were first held in 2012, but the scope and frequency of these exercises have increased significantly since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, with about a third of Russia, Chinese joint military drills taking place after.

Russia's leader Vladimir Putin visited China just over a month ago, and he strengthened economic and political ties with Beijing since the Ukraine War. This week a number of Chinese and Russian naval vessels gathered in China's eastern port of Qingdo, and the patrol, the Pacific Ocean together, to quote jointly respond to security challenges according to China's defense

ministry. Emily Fang and Pyrenees of Powerful Typhoon is taking aim at Glam and the northern

Mariana Islands, for Caster say the storm could reach the equivalent of a category 5 hurricane,

Dana Williams from a station KPRG reports residents there are scrambling to make a last-minute preparations. With winds of 155 miles per hour, super typhoon Bobby is expected to intensify over the next 24 hours before passing near the island of Roda in the western Pacific, about 50 miles north of Anderson Air Force Base on Guam. Residents spent the July 4 weekend gathering supplies gassing up vehicles and securing their homes. Local governments have opened emergency shelters,

flights have been canceled and seaports have suspended commercial operations. The northern Mariana are still recovering from typhoons in Laku, which knocked out power and water service to the islands in April. That's Dana Williams reporting. Researchers have discovered a new way of doing just that,

employing some special larvae called "superworms." NPRs are a Daniel Explains. Existing techniques to strip the flesh off a dead animal have their drawbacks, potentially degrading the skeleton or harming the environment. Then several years back, a team of researchers in Iran considered the "superworm." A hefty nearly finger-sized beetle larvae with large, chewing mandibles available at many pet stores' feed. When the superworms were offered

dead animals ranging from fish to wolves, they cleaned the skeletons masterfully. It's also surprising that how "superworm" can work so fast and at the same time, super gentle. Nielufar Alaikaki is a bioinformatician now at the State Museum of Natural History in Stuttgart, Germany. She hopes the superworm's success could be good news for institutions with fewer resources. Ari Daniel, NPR News. The preliminary hearing begins Monday for the man accused of fatally

shooting conservative activists Charlie Kirk. Prosecutors are expected to present evidence over five days as they seek to have 23-year-old Tyler Robinson stand trial on aggravated murder charges. Kirk's widow and parents are expected to attend the proceedings, which will be live streamed from a Utah courtroom. Prosecutors say Robinson turned himself in after the shooting. He had sent a text message confessing and left a note. "I'm Windsor Joltston and PR News in Washington."
