President Trump will head to Turkey this week for this year's NATO summit, many members of NATO are anxious about the changing alliance role of the U.S., Trump has pulled some U.S. troops from Europe and has demanded for some time that European countries pay more of a share for the cause of NATO. David Catler is a senior fellow at the Center for European Policy Analysis.
He says the conversation in Turkey will include discussing spending." The Trump administration in the President's first term and now in a second term is actually played a pretty significant role in attracting other nation's attention to the spending level and getting that agreement, not just to reach the 2% from the Wales Committee for some years ago, but also to the 5% commitment that came out of the Hague Summit, but what's
most important now moving forward that the spending is rising is actually translating the
spending into real military capability.
“I think that's one of the things that this summit is going to focus on.”
Police and Memphis say national guard troops fired their weapons in the early morning hours Sunday, killing a man who was armed with a handgun. MPR's Joel Rose has a report. Police say officers were responding to calls of shots fired in downtown Memphis just before 4am local time, when they saw quote an armed male carrying a handgun.
The man identified by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is 20-year-old Tyron Johnson fled on foot, pursued by Memphis police officers, along with Tennessee National Guard soldiers who are assigned to the area. What happened next is unclear. The TBI says quote the situation escalated, unquote, for reasons that are still under investigation.
Memphis police said the man turned toward the National Guard members with his weapon before they fired and struck him. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. No law enforcement officers were injured. Joel Rose and PR news.

fires are continuing to burn across the western U.S. at this hour in Colorado. The Aspen acres fire has burned tens of thousands of acres and has been spreading in several directions at once. Colorado Public Radio's Kevin Bady has the latest. Officials have so far stopped the Aspen acres fire in southern Colorado from reaching Colorado
City. It's been under mandatory evacuation order since early Friday morning. The sky here is full of smoke and its windy which has some on edge. Still residents have also felt some relief the city has made it this long. Our Clark brought his dog Jack to this lookout spot to see if his house was still standing.
I'm safe. Jack is safe. Pray for the firefighters and joyful. What I'm looking at right now. evacuation orders are still in place for at least two other fires.

Many of Iran's top officials were seen in public on Sunday during funeral prayers for that country's former supreme leader. They were joined by brothers of the country's new leader. Their appearance is signal Iran's confidence in their safety. Tehran meanwhile continues to push back on U.S. demands and negotiations to end the war.
You're listening to NPR news. Mechanics say they saw no damage to a Delta airline flight after the pilot reported that the plane was hit by a firework. The plane was about to land at Midway International Airport in Chicago when the pilot radio to the fell to Big Bang on the plane Sunday morning.

Sarah Duterte is the daughter of strongman former President Rodrigo Duterte, whose infamous war on drugs killed thousands and has left him facing charges of crimes against humanity.
