A bipartisan housing affordability bill.

Fortability bill, rather, could become law at midnight even without President Trump's

signature. He's refusing to sign it, saying it's a protest over the Senate not taking up his strict voter ID bill. And Pierce Steven Bassaha has more on what's in the housing bill. "It has one main goal, making homes more affordable.

This bill tries to do that by encouraging home building through a bunch of different angles, like streamlining federal regulations, making it easier for banks to invest in housing. And there's one part of the bill that Trump personally pushed for.

It is this ban, preventing large corporations from buying up tons of homes.

Any large investor at owns at least 350 single family homes will not be allowed to buy anymore." And Pierce Steven Bassaha reporting, there is still a chance that Trump could veto it tonight before the midnight deadline.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer is facing growing pressure to pull her national guard troops

out of Washington, DC early, now that the 4th of July celebrations have finished. The calls come as Minnesota is pulling its guard members out by the end of the week. A mid-concerns they were being used as part of President Trump's anti-crime task force. And Pierce Catlonsdorf has more. All 13 members of DC City Council signed a letter asking for Whitmer to withdraw her troops.

A coalition of more than 2 dozen civil society groups sent a similar letter earlier this week.

Michigan is one of several Democratic-led states to recently send national guard troops to DC, under strict orders to only participate in America to 50 proceedings. But local DC residents and activists have documented guard from those states participating in presence patrols in neighborhoods far from the celebrations. Something the thousands of troops under President Trump's ongoing task force have been doing for months.

Whitmer has previously said she would pull her troops if used in such a way.

Catlonsdorf and Piano's Washington. The Trump administration has ousted the remaining leadership at the election assistance commission. This leaves the independent agency in a precarious position heading into November's midterm elections. And Pierce Ashley Lopez has more. The White House says it has removed the last few commissioners of the election assistance commission.

This is an independent agency created in the wake of the 2000 presidential election, a close race plagued by administrative errors. The agency has since helped provide election officials with resources and has collected data about how elections went. The EAC was created to have four commissioners at the beginning of this year,

one Republican member abruptly resigned and now another is also resigning. The agency's two Democratic members, however, were removed. Ashley Lopez and Piano's. In men's World Cup soccer, Spain beat Belgium today in Los Angeles two to one in extra time. That's in Spain to the semi-finals do stay against France. This is NPR.

Graham Platner means Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate is officially out of the race. The main secretary of state says he filed the necessary paper work to withdraw his candidacy. Two days after announcing he planned to do so following an accusation of rape by a former girlfriend. He denies the claims. The main Democratic party now has until July 27 to pick his replacement.

wholesale beef prices increased by nearly 16% over the past year. From member station Houston Public Media Natalie Weber reports, Texas Taco restaurant owners say they're feeling the pinch. Lucing their county for the Vaskas is ringing up a customer at Monchis, a Taco restaurant in Houston's East End. Vaskas, who purchases ingredients for the business, says beef prices have gone

up by about $2 a pound. In response, the restaurant has raised its prices, including for its Taco Tuesday special. We increased the details that are my hard, but we had to do it. Vaskas and other Taco restaurant owners say rising beef prices are the latest hit to business. A missed a backdrop of higher fuel costs and general inflation. Low herd sizes have continued to drive up beef prices, and the emergence of the new world's

screwworm in Texas has caused concern among ranchers. For NPR News, I'm Natalie Weber in Houston. Wall Street hired by the closing bell that out up 149 the NASDAQ up 74. I'm Janine Herbst, NPR News in Washington.
