Iran says the straight of Hormuz is once again closed, that country's military fired on a
“commercial ship in the straight Saturday saying it was using an unauthorized route.”
In response to the U.S. military strike targets along Iran's coast, the renewed fighting is jeopardizing the already tenuous ceasefire. Dominic Tierney is a professor, its fourth more college, he says reaching a peace deal is always difficult. Arguably, the single most difficult task that an American President can face is extricating
the U.S. from one of these failed wars. The U.S. was negotiating for two years to get out of the Korean War. It took five years to negotiate a way out of the Vietnam War. We spent three months in Vietnam, just negotiating the shape of the table around which we would negotiate.
And similarly, it took years to get out of Afghanistan, so this is not going to be a quick process. Main Senator Susan Collins hit the campaign trail Saturday one day after a democratic opponent Graham Platner officially withdrew from the race.
“He dropped out following an accusation of rape by a former romantic partner, Platner”
denies the charge, main public radius Susan Sharon has more. Appearing at Main's moxie day parade with about 60 supporters, Colin said she has no strong feelings about Platner's departure, following an ex-girlfriend's allegation that he raped her. Instead, Colin says she's been focused on recruiting town, city, and county chairs across
the state in an off-presidential year election.
You always worry about voter turnout, so we've placed a lot of effort on encouraging people
to vote and having a lot of direct voter contact. Main Democrats meanwhile are regrouping. They've scheduled a nominating convention for July 25 to choose a candidate to take on Collins in November. For NPR news, I'm Susan Sharon.

Gonzalez is handing out flyers containing information for business owners, what ICE agents can and cannot do when entering their establishments.
“One of the most important things that business owners can know is that in order for ICE to”
go into a private spot in their business, if that would be for example, an employee's only area, they need a signed judicial warrant. Houston officials are continuing to call for an independent investigation into his death. For NPR news, I'm Keenan Vaughan, in Houston. And you're listening to NPR news.
