Graham served in Congress for more than three decades first in the house and then the Senate.
Luis Alfredo Garcia with South Carolina Public Radio says the state's governor must now appoint someone to fill Graham's Senate seat for the final months of his term. Graham had won the GOP primary for his seat just a month ago. Now, Republicans' South Carolina voters will have to choose among whichever candidate decide to enter the race. Republican Gary Simroll, the former South Carolina House Majority Leader, says choosing a
successor will be a daunting task. "We remain a state that is dependent on the federal government for many of the issues that we face in this state. Senator Rand delivered. Neal's family did not give a cause of death but says the actor had battled a rare type of lymphoma. Sam Neal was 78. More extreme heat is moving into areas of the western and northern U.S., the National Weather Service has issued heat advisories and extreme heat warnings in nearly 2 dozen states from Utah and Idaho northward to Montana,
stretching across the Great Lakes states to New England. This is NPR news. As crews in the western U.S. continue battling large wildfires, evacuations are taking place in France. That's where a forest fire is burning south of Paris amid hot dry conditions there. The flames have forced people to leave their homes and disrupted train travel. That fire is burning in the fountain blue forest about 40 miles south of the French capital. It's still not
clear what sparked a deadly weekend fire at a pub in Thailand, at least 27 people were killed in Bangkok. Michael Sullivan has the latest. Prime Minister Anatin Chavitokun told reporters that the cause of the fire is still under investigation. But a musician at the site told local media that the lights briefly went out before there was a sudden explosion and then the blaze.
