midterm elections, President Trump delivered a prime time address last night, where he
“once again questioned the results of past elections and race concerns about future”
wants. Every American deserves to know that when they cast their vote, that vote will be counted accurately in a system, and that is to make that system secure. One where cheating and interference are not just difficult, but virtually impossible. Unfortunately the system we have today falls catastrophically short of that standard.
President also described mail-in ballots as inherently corrupt. In his address, Trump did not provide evidence of widespread illegal voting and recent elections that would validate his persistent claims that elections are rigged. The White House says U.S. customs in border protection will continue making traffic stops as part of their immigration enforcement efforts.
This follows recent deadly shootings involving ICE in Texas and Maine. President Trump took to social media this week to support the continuation of traffic stops as NPR's cat-lawn store reports. President Trump posted on social media that the vehicle stops must continue.
“"We cannot give up one of ICE's most important and effective crime-fighting tools," he”
wrote. Office of Senator Angus King, an independent from Maine, had confirmed to NPR on Tuesday that the Department of Homeland Security had planned to make the policy shift. But at a press briefing, White House press secretary Caroline Levitt told reporters that immigration enforcement agents are continuing with traffic stops, and that guidance
had been given to all field offices in the country. She said the White House and DHS are "on the same page." NPR reached out to DHS for clarity on the policy, it referred us to recent comments from the White House. Catlawn store, NPR news, Washington.
People in Venezuela continued digging out from last month's pair of powerful earthquakes
that left widespread destruction and more than 4,800 people dead. As John Otis reports, the quakes have put the country's return to democracy on hold, and that's sparking protests.
“These protesters in Caracas are calling on Venezuela's authoritarian regime to hold free elections.”
But President Delci Rodriguez is ignoring their demands to focus on earthquake recovery. Her government has also blocked opposition leader Madia Codina Machado from returning to Venezuela. Before holding new elections, experts say that Venezuela must first reform its pro-regime electoral council and judicial system. Another challenge is reviving political parties.
For MPR News, I'm John Otis in Caracas. While street futures are lower this morning, doubt futures are off 367 points. This is NPR News from Washington.
President Trump's businesses made more than $2 billion last year, and PR's actually
Lopez sampled reaction from some swing voters in Pennsylvania. NPR observed two online focused groups featuring 12 voters who supported Joe Biden in 2020 and then voted for Trump in 2024. Most of the voters shrugged off news that Trump made billions of dollars last year, mostly from cryptocurrency.
But the other half, including Bavanna, who participated under the condition her last name would not be used, said, "This is a serious issue." For me, when I see that the first thing that comes to my mind is abuse of power, and that to me is morally wrong, and that itself should be a problem, and is a problem to me. Other voters said they were not troubled by Trump's earnings because he is a businessman,
because they believe that most politicians are corrupt, Ashley Lopez and PR News. Renewed fighting between the U.S. and Iran continues to push up gasoline prices. Triple A says regular is back up to $3.98 a gallon. The price has gone up 10 cents in the last week. Triple A says diesel, once again is averaging more than $5 a gallon nationwide at nearly
506. The cost of gasoline and diesel had been dropping after the U.S. and Iran agreed to a 60-day ceasefire, which has since fallen apart. Ford is recalling more than 288,000 explorer SUVs sold in the U.S. because of a safety defect.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says roof rail covers can come loose and fly off the vehicle, racing the risk of a crash. I'm Dave Maddingley and PR News in Washington. The last time Antonio May's senior heard from his son, it was in a note, the 16-year-old left in the family's garage.
"He told me he was going to make me cry." Antonio Jr. left home to join a protest in Seattle, a week later he was shot and killed there. "I need some a ref made, just as for my son."
