Intelligence expected this week, the Senate Advanced Clayton's nomination Monday on a 51-43 party-line vote. President Trump spoke in Michigan Monday after visiting a general Motors facility. He touted Republican policies in the swing stage, just over three months ahead of the midterms.
The White House had promoted Trump's visit as related to his trade agenda and manufacturing in particular. However, his speech did not focus on those topics, but was instead wide-ranging. Trump spent significant time criticizing Democrats and at one point took aim at cities led by Democrats.
