Democrats have not been able to confirm reports that some sailors have tried to jump overboard and they want an investigation. The Defense Secretary Pete Hegsev, meanwhile speaking today at a conference in Panama, told journalists the reports are not accurate.
"Completely misrepresented. Listen, we make sure that every ship, every crew, every captain, has everything we can provide them at every single moment. Some deployments are long enough." About 5,000 sailors are aboard.
As mid-term elections approach, some swing voters might not be quick to reject socialist political candidates. NPR's Ashley Lopez observed two online focus groups of Nevada voters, where most said they would not think negatively of a candidate that is labeled "socialist." The focus groups were made up of 12 voters with mixed political affiliations who supported Joe Biden in 2020 and then president Trump in 2024.
Ten of those voters who participated under the condition their last name would not be used, said they would not automatically dismiss a candidate who was labeled "socialist."

The Kennedy Center board has, for a second time, voted to close down the main campus of the arts complex for a two-year renovation, three months after a federal judge blocked a similar plan. The board is also trying to put president Trump's name back on the building, and Piano's Anastasia Circus reports.
The board is chaired by President Trump and filled mostly with Trump allies.
They voted again to close the center's main facilities for $250 million renovation.
The plans approved by the board include structural repairs, new marble floors, and nearly $12 million in acoustical improvements.

and as a memorial to JFK. The board also voted to test the federal judge's previous ruling to remove Trump's name from the center. Their plan now is to add an inscription saying that the center has been "restored and renovated by President Donald J. Trump."
