The USS George Washington is heading toward the Middle East, as concerns increase over
“poor conditions on another aircraft carrier, the USS Abraham Lincoln.”
And here is Tom Bowman says spouses of the sailors aboard the USS Lincoln have been airing their concerns to Pentagon officials. They say, you know, there is food aboard. It's not maybe the best food, maybe, you know, energy bars or corn dogs rather than a decent, hot meal, but defense secretary Pete Higgs at this said, these concerns are
misrepresented. But Navy Secretary Hong Kong had a pretty stormy meeting with families of the Lincoln sailors. There were like 200 people in this room in San Diego. So they're getting an ear full really from family members now, as well as sailors.
The USS Abraham Lincoln with 5,000 crew members has been out at sea for more than eight months.
Elements have been raised about supplies, conditions, and the mental health of the sailors. Tropical Storm Lala is expected to reach Hawaii's big island as a category one hurricane.

Hawaii Governor Josh Greene declared a state of emergency prior to Lala's arrival. It's not just the amount of wind. It's the heavy rainfall, it's the flooding, it's the entirety of this storm, which gives us pause, and again, this is a very serious storm. We have not had a hurricane make landfall in quite some time.
So none of us really have experienced this in, you know, the last couple decades. Lala could jump up to 25 inches of rain across Hawaii's big island.
The Hawaii National Guard is mobilized to help with emergency response efforts.
The last hurricane to make landfall on the big island was in 1871. A bagditude 7.7 earthquake has struck off the coast of eastern Indonesia, killing at least 47 people. Multiple aftershocks also have been recorded.

The jumping off point for tourists traveling to Komodo National Park for diving snorkeling and viewing the endangered Komodo dragons. The rescue workers are still trying to reach other communities closer to the epicenter. Their progress is being hampered by landslides that followed the quake. A tsunami warning was issued, then lifted about three hours after the early morning quake.

air safety. Potential disaster was averted Friday when a Phoenix-based controller recognized that two American airlines jets were both flying under the same designation. American 2482. One was arriving from Chicago while the other was departing from Phoenix.
