living conditions aboard and declining morale. The move comes as President Trump continues to defend the war in Iran. NPR is Emily Feing reports, speaking on the island at a rally for law enforcement officers Trump claimed the U.S. was defeating Iran, and laughingly spoke about the straight of Formos.
Pretty soon, I'll be declaring the "Hormos" straight, a territory of the United States. Yet negotiations with Iran through intermediary countries have hit a snag over a control of the waterway. As Hawaii public radio's bill dormant reports, tropical storm law laws expected to intensify as the day goes on. Governor Josh Greene says the entire state of Hawaii will feel the impact of "Lawas" that moves across or close to the island chain this weekend. Hawaii Island is expected to get the strongest winds and heaviest rains throughout
much of the day on Saturday. The National Hurricanes Center says 10 to 20 inches of rainfall is likely on the island,
with some spots getting as much as 25 inches.
One unusual characteristic of this storm is the large size of its wind field. It means that whatever happens with the center of the storm, its impacts will be felt more than 200 miles in all directions. For NPR News, I'm Bill Dorman in Honolulu. The Venezuelan government says it is freed 131 people incarcerated for political reasons,
“including a group of women accused of plotting a coup against former leader Nicholas Maduro.”
NPR's carry-con has the latest. Venezuela's interim government said the freed prisoners had been granted "alternative measures" from incarceration, as a sign of progress for national reconciliation, but opposition leaders with the group Ventevin as well as said it independently verified the release of only 43 detainees.

Last Nile virus season started strong in early this year, and is expected to continue through early fall.
The virus is spread by mosquitoes, and can cause a flu-like disease that's mild for most. But those with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop serious illness that can lead to long-term neurological problems and even death. According to CDC, the risk of severe west-nile and other mosquito-intick-borne diseases is especially high for patients taking B-cell depleting drugs, used to treat some cancers,
arthritis, and other autoimmune conditions. The drugs dampen the immune system's ability to fight off new infections. Health officials advise everyone to use bug spray and where-long sleeves to prevent bites from infected mosquitoes and ticks. Ping-wong and PR News
A new study published in the journal Neurology seems to support the theory that Alzheimer's disease may be due at least in part to a sudden drop of estrogen after menopause. This may help account for higher prevalence of Alzheimer's in women than in men. Researchers analyzed the health records of more than 5,000 older women who had undergone his directemies earlier in life.
They found those who had received estrogen-only hormone replacement therapy at menopause had 35% lower odds of having some of the hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease than those who did not receive hormone replacement.
