The National Hurricane Center says Lala is now a category one hurricane as it moves
“westerly towards the big island of Hawaii.”
The storm has maximum sustained winds of 75 miles per hour. It could reach the island's southern end Saturday bringing between 8 to 25 inches of rain. Bill Dorman with Hawaii Public Radio says the heavy rain could be devastating. Landslide mudslides, as well rockfalls, those are all part of it. Saturation of ground is another concern flooding, flash flooding.
A storm surgeon's near the coast so there are many layers to this and many layers of concern for the people of Hawaii and again, Hawaii Island is the main focus of this. Hawaii's governor is already declared a state of emergency. A year ago, the Trump administration opened the largest detention camp in the country at Fort Bliss, Texas, the calls to close the 10th facility have grown only louder amid
allegations of in-new maimed conditions. Three people in custody have died Angela Kachargo with member station KTP in El Paso reports.
“Civil rights and immigrant advocates gather to mark the one-year anniversary of the camp,”
which opened on August 17th of last year. They read testimony from detainees detailing unsanitary conditions. Meagur undercooked meals and dangerous medical neglect. Attorney Charlotte Weiss with the Texas Civil Rights Project visits the camp. She read testimony from a 48-year-old man detained at the camp who needed multiple medications
for diabetes. "I was only given insulin once per day by the medical staff and my daily doses were often late or missed altogether." Immigration and customs enforcement has said detainees get proper care. But a government accountability office report released in June found that the camp failed

summer, sending fewer people to the hospital and causing fewer deaths. But the virus is expected to continue increasing for weeks, so help that spurred rising people to consider masking up if they're in crowded places like airports and to get one of the updated vaccines when they become available in the fall. H5 bird flu virus, as it recorded its first penguin fatality.
Conservation is to concern what will happen in what it could mean for the world's biggest little penguin colony and other native birds, Rachel Banjono reports. Every evening, hundreds of tourists quietly gather in the shores of Phillip Island about two hours drive for Melbourne. Hoping to catch a glimpse of these adorable birds as they waddled their way up the sand
to their burrows. But living in such close quarters is what makes penguins at higher risk. Although only 5,000 out of around 40,000 penguins were begin their vaccinations on Monday. The state's two veterinary officer Graham Cook says it's still ambitious. This is the largest vaccination project in wildlife that has ever been undertaken.
Just over 200 birds have tested positive for the virus since at first arrived in June.
