Nebraska's largest school district-ass city officials to no longer give school resource officers electric shock-lives. The Omaha City Council had approved the purchase of 40 pairs last year for school resource officers. Nebraska Public Media's Jolie Peel Reports.
Omaha Public School Superintendent Matthew Ray is requesting electric shock-gloves no longer be used by school resource officers, effective, immediately. He sent a letter to city and police officials in Omaha and Bellevue. The news comes after parents, students, and community members denounced the use of electric shot gloves at the district's board meeting Monday night, including Nora Wessel, a senior
at Central High School. These are adults we're supposed to be able to trust, but these weapons create a barrier for students to turn to resource officers when needed. The gloves were used twice in OPS last school year. Mayor John Ewing says the city will respect the request.
