President Trump is changing his approach to Iran.
“It's an effort to get that country to agree to his terms for a peace deal."”
And PR's Marlison reports. "Mons of bombing haven't worked to subdue Iran, and with no obvious face-saving off-ramp, the President is now turning to economic pressure. Trump is threatening a "economic d-day," saying there will be a crushing operation of sanctions to cripple Iran financially.
It's unclear if he will back off that threat, as he has with other threats. Trump is also threatening economic action against any country giving Iran a lifeline. That would describe China, Iran's biggest oil customer. But in the past, Trump has been reluctant to press China with tough sanctions. Marlison NPR News."
Ukraine's president says his country will offer a strong response after a deadly Russian strike could at least 16 people, and injured more than 100 others last week. 303,000 more troops to the front line.
“Former Vice President Mike Pence is in Kiev, where he says, "Despite all that, Ukraine is still”
doing well." Ukraine is winning this war. Four-and-a-half years after that brutal and unprovoked invasion of Bairusha, Ukraine's military on the front lines, has fought Russia to a stalemate, and by essentially reinventing drone warfare, they've taken the fight directly into the heart of Russia.
Pence was speaking Sunday on CNN's State of the Union. With bond markets in turmoil, investors are waiting for a speech later this week by Fed Chair Kevin Worsh, as NPR's Raphael Nam reports, he set to speak at the annual Fed policy meeting in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. It's a highly anticipated speech, investors are hoping, Worsh and Friday, will address the
fears about inflation that are hitting the bond markets. Bond investors fear inflation, because they can have real negative effects in the economy. Worsh has previously said, fighting inflation will be a top priority. But investors reacted poorly when the Fed held interest rates at its last policy meeting in July, even as inflation remains high, racing doubts among some
investors about how the Fed plans to tackle inflation.
“Making this all more interesting, the U.S. will report a key inflation gauge, called”
the personal consumption expenditure's price index on Wednesday, two days before Worsh is set to take the stage, Raphael Nam in PR news. In Asia, equity markets closed mostly down on Monday that happened in part because of concern, so for Nvidia's next financial report on Wednesday, Japan's Nikkei average was down by a half a percent while Taiwan's market was also off by the same amount.
Brent crude prices dropped by 1.4 percent and U.S. crude was down 1.6 percent.
This is NPR news. The detainment by immigration and customs enforcement agents of a five-year-old boy and his father is sparking controversy, Texas Public Radio's Jerry Clayton reports. Five-year-old Liam Tadeo and his father Victor Martinez-Nyato are being held in a family detention center in Dilly, Texas, after being picked up by ice last week in Austin on
the way to a soccer game. U.S. representative Greg Casar of Austin took to social media and called for the release of the pair, along with all children at the facility urging for what he called the trailer prison to be shut down. His kids should be playing soccer, going to school, living their lives, not being arrested
on the streets. Casar pointed to a similar case when a five-year-old Minnesota boy was sent to and detained in Dilly sparking a nationwide outcry. I'm Jerry Clayton, in San Antonio. The U.S. Southern Command says two people were killed when a boat was hit in the eastern
