The trade war between the United States and Canada just got worse.

Today I'm announcing that Canada will match the United States tariffs, the order for
dollar rates for rate. The US recently imposed 50% levies on $20 billion worth of Canadian
products after Canada walked out of negotiations last week. Washington says it offered a good deal, but Ottawa argues its other neighbor push new terms that it considered un-economic and unfair. With the two governments on the outspresident Trump warned yesterday new tariffs were coming for Canadian vehicles, auto parts, and steel January 1st. And today Trump piled on posting on social media that he was seriously considering renaming Lake Ontario

support of NPR. The Supreme Court decided it was too early for a judge in Boston to
block U.S. P.S. from carrying out Trump's directives in the 23 states plus Washington D.C. that suit over the order. The Trump administration is now trying to get a related ruling by the same judge paused. That's a nationwide black-on-pulsal service work for Trump's order. General Griswald, as Colorado's Democratic Secretary of State, "Let's be clear. The bigger picture. It is unlawful for President Trump to try to take federal control
over elections. It is very clear in the constitution. They turn elections not Donald Trump." Voting rights and Democratic groups are also continuing their lawsuits over Trump's order on "Zilawong" and "Pierre News." Republican voters in South Carolina are selecting their nominee for Senate today in a special primary runoff more than a month after Senator Lindsey Graham died.
South Carolina Republicans have generally been split between Senator Darlene Graham and Congressman Ralph Norman. There's been just a single one-on-one debate and people have been flooded with campaign mail and text messages. For Lila Ann Briggs, it comes down to familiarity. She voted for Norman in the primary and said she would again in a runoff. "I actually went to the hospital with a candidate I voted for."
Graham has no experience in elected politics outside of a recent appointment to the U.S. Senate, but she has President Trump's endorsement. His super PAC MAGA Inc. spent some $800,000 on "Get Out the Vote" calls in text for Graham. For NPR News, I'm Lois Alfredo Garcia in Columbia, South Carolina.
"It's NPR. Pennsylvania Health Officials are reporting the first measles-related deaths
in the United States this year. State Health Secretary Dr. Deborah Bogen says two unvaccinated patients who lived in Lancaster County died. The Senate's for Disease Control and Prevention says, "There are 277 measles cases in the country as of a few days ago. Earlier this summer, the number of cases surpassed last year's tally, making this the worst year for measles in the U.S. since 1991. A new study of former national football league players finds that
at least a quarter of the athletes who died within a five-year period had the neurodegenerative condition known as CTE. NPR's Becky Sullivan reports a research from Mass General Brigham is the newest and most comprehensive attempt to better determine CTE's prevalence in the sport. For years, former NFL players and their families have been donating their brains to researchers
to see whether they had chronic traumatic and cephalopathy or CTE. That means most research has something of a sample bias as many samples came from people with symptoms of brain disease, like mood swings or memory loss. The new study essentially sought to find a denominator. Researchers counted up every player who'd appeared at least one NFL game anytime since 1949, then focused on those two died between 2016 and 2021. With more than 200 donated
brains already definitively diagnosed with CTE, that set a minimum prevalence of about 25%. In a statement, the NFL told NPR the league, quote, "continuously strives to make the game a football safer, including by implementing strategies to reduce concussions and head impacts."
