It's been six months since the U.S. invaded Iran and Iran restricted access to the
straight-of-war moves.

the country. Until February 28th this year, about a fifth of the world's oil went through the straight of Formus. But since Iran effectively closed access to the straight, energy prices have gone up a lot. Gasoline now costs around 40% more, averaging around $4.10 for a gallon of regular.
Six months ago, Tripoli says the average price was around $2.90. And diesel prices are also about 50% higher now than when the war started. A gallon of diesel now costs around $5.60 on average, not far from its peak in June 2022, after Russia invaded Ukraine. All these high-energy prices are a warning sign to Republicans ahead of the mid-terms.

Ruben and Piano's. The U.S. Postal Service is appealing, the latest court ruling to block a plan from President Trump that would restrict mail-in voting for the November mid-term election. As NPR's Hansi Lowong reports, this sets up another possible Supreme Court review of Trump's order.

Postal Service is now appealing the latest major legal herd of carrying out Trump's order. The Postal Service plan involves delivering mail-in-bounds only to people on voter lists that the states would have to turn over to the mail-in agency. U.S. District Judge and Dirtilani found that plan is likely illegal because U.S. P.S. has no authority to control voting by mail.
We should note U.S. P.S. is a financial supporter of NPR. The Postal Services Appeal sets the stage for another review of Trump's order at the Supreme Court. So far, the high court has not weighed in on whether the order is legal. But there's little time left where the order to be fully carried out, mail-in-boding
for the midterm starts next week. On Zilowong, NPR News. A chemical safety board investigation into a failure may 26th of a chemical tank says the company owning the tank had been warned 10 months earlier to repair it, but the company ignored the reports.

Inspections, rather, the collapse of the tank at a paper-millan-long view Washington killed 11 workers and injured several others. It was one of the deadliest workplace disasters in recent decades. Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Worsh said today that inflation is still too high. And while not saying it outright, he suggested that central bank may have to raise interest
rates in the coming months to bring it down. There is one signal nobody can miss. Responsibility for 65 months of sustained elevated inflation, sits squarely with the central bank. And that's where it belongs.
Horsh made his comments at the Fed's annual meeting in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Stocks were down across the board today and you're listening to NPR News. A mental health institute in the Netherlands is warning about potentially lethal ecstasy pills that are shaped like President Donald Trump's head. They say the pills contain PMMA, a chemical similar to MDMA, but slower acting.
They say that mainly to overdoses as users take more than needed, ecstasy as uses illegal in the country, but still widespread. An experimental treatment that uses gene editing to reduce cholesterol levels appears to be working one year later, NPR's Rob Stein has our updates. Detreatment uses the gene editing technique known as CRISPR to switch off a gene in the
liver to lower levels of so-called bad cholesterol, as well as triglycerides, which can cause heart attacks and strokes. Researchers at the Cleveland Clinic last year reported that a single infusion of the gene editor could cut bad cholesterol and triglyceride levels by about half for at least two months.
At a meeting of the European Society of Cardiology Congress, the researchers report that the benefits can last at least a year. They stress, however, that more researchers still needed to make sure the treatment will continue to work safely. The Tampa Bay Race have received county approval for a financing plan to build a new
stadium there.
The news comes Friday, one day after City officials approved their part of the $2.3 billion
project. The race will be paying $1.3 billion of the total. The new stadium will seat 31,000 people, and is expected to open in 2029. I'm Dale Wilman, NPR News. This season on Planet Money Summer School, we have drilled for oil in Norway.
