As thousands of people remain missing in Nepal three days after a devastating flood there,
“Nepalese community members in North Texas are waiting here from missing friends and relatives.”
Priscilla Rich, from member station KERA reports." The uncertainty of the condition of missing loved ones has impacted the Nepalese community in North Texas home to over 20,000 nationals. The Nepalese American Chamber of Commerce in Dallas has been overwhelmed with calls of concern, far from those wanting to help.
Shradah Shresta, who grew up in Nepal, is president of the Chamber. She says as a whole, the community is coming together with whatever means they can, but most of all, have not lost hope. "The anxiousness, the leading Peter has been tough for all the people who are far away from home and especially for people who have lost their loved ones."
Shresta says she is planning a vigil in the upcoming days. "I'm Priscilla Rice in Dallas." The flash floods in that country have killed more than 670 people now. Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Worsh says inflation remains too high, but he's offering few clues about where interest rates are headed.
Empires Windsor-Johnston reports that what the Fed does next could have a direct impact on the finances of American consumers. Worsh says bringing inflation back to the Fed's 2% target remains the priority, but he stopped short of signaling where interest rates are heading, saying the Fed needs flexibility to respond as the economy changes.
Economist Oscar Monio says what happens next could be felt directly by consumers. This means higher mortgage rates, or interest rates for credit cards or loans more generally, but if you're going abroad, the greenback will buy you more goods and services done before, but this is the short-term impact, right?

However, Michael Colokie explains, reports from the city indicate that the situation remains tense there. Sustained gunfire and explosions were heard overnight into Saturday, in several parts of the capital Niami, including the international airport and the neighborhood where the presidential palace is located.
According to the country's defense minister, Salifu Modi, a group of soldiers took some military officers hostage at a base and shot at quote "sensitive" signs. Modi added that security forces were able to gradually regain control of the locations that had been attacked.
