two more survivors in separate operations, ten days after devastating floods hit the
country.
“Nepal's armies had a joint rescue team of Nepalese, military personnel, and South Korean”
disaster experts rescued a man from a hydropower plant, and a woman was rescued from her home. At least 1,300 people were killed in the August 26 floods, more than 5,000 remain missing. The U.S. ambassador to Israel says he condemns violence against Palestinians by extremist settlers in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
But he added he regrets the limited power the U.S. has to stop such attacks, and ambassador Mike Huckabee made his comments during a visit today to a West Bank town that has seen
increased violence, and P.R.'s carry-con reports.
Huckabee says it's his job as ambassador to serve Americans. But he says the U.S. can't investigate crimes or make demands of Israel. While touring the town of Turmathaya with relatives of Palestinians killed by Israeli settlers, Huckabee said as long as the violence continues is really too, or hurt. "It's in their best interest to consequence people who are carrying out acts of criminal
behavior and terrorism. The reputation does not do well when it appears that this tiny little group of morrotters are somehow representative of the larger population." Eighty percent of residents of Turmathaya are Palestinian Americans.
Israel rarely arrests or punishes settlers.
Kary Khan and P.R. news in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. A federal judge in Boston has again blocked the U.S. postal services plan to follow an order by President Trump that seeks to restrict mail-in voting for the mid-term elections. N.P.R.'s Hansi Lohong reports the Supreme Court has already set to review the postal services plan.
The ruling by U.S. district judge and dear Tawani effectively extends an earlier court
“order, stopping the U.S. postal service from moving head with key parts of its plan.”
We should note U.S. P.S. is a financial supporter of N.P.R. The postal service plan involves delivering mail-in ballots only to people on voter lists that the states would have to turn over to the mail agency. Just Tawani found that plan is likely illegal because U.S. P.S. has no authority to control voting by mail.
While the legal fight continues, mail-in voting for the mid-term general election has officially started with North Carolina just beginning to send out its absentee ballots on Zilawong and P.R. news. In a late-9 motion last night, a federal judge ordered the Trump administration to provide 48 hours in notice before doing anything other than information gathering at the traffic circle
where it wants to build its proposed 255-foot arch in the nation's capital, a group of military veterans and an architectural historian filed a lawsuit to block the construction. You're listening to N.P.R.
“The Islamic Society of North America is hosting its annual convention this weekend”

A lot lost Italian portrait, looted by the Nazis, will now be returned to the air of a prominent Jewish art dealer, an Argentine court, approved a deal under which the daughter of a fugitive Nazi official
gave her proclaim to the painting in order to avoid trial. The portrait was found last year in her home after Dutch reporters spotted it in an online real estate listing. The portrait belonged to Dutch Jewish dealer, Jacques Goodsticker. His collection was seized after Nazi Germany invaded the Netherlands in 1940.
