"Live from NPR news in Washington, I'm Dan Ronan.
Russia is calling yesterday's talks highly useful, yet there is no side of a breakthrough
“in America's primary mission negotiating and end to the war in Ukraine.”
From Moscow, here's NPR's Charles Mains." "Cremlin aid, Yuriushakov, told reporters with coffin Kushner, that outlined a number of ideas regarding possible avenues for a settlement to the war without categorizing the proposals or the Russian reaction. Yet, Ushakov said President Vladimir Putin told the White House on voice of real progress
in the Russian military campaign, and, again, assured Moscow would achieve its objectives. Putin and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky both ordered a three-day pause in attacks on each other's capitals to allow the American safe travel, yet fighting continued elsewhere, with Russia attacking other regions across Ukraine and Kiev targeting oil facilities with drones in the southern Russian city of Rustov and Don.
"The state of Hawaii has declared a state of emergency as Hurricane Lola approaches and could make landfall as soon as Monday.
This is the third system over the last month, the threatened Hawaii, and what has been
an active hurricane season in the Pacific.
“Lola is a category three hurricane with sustained winds of 135 miles per hour.”
Robbie Lola is a meteorologist with the National Hurricane Center. He says President should begin preparing now. We're actually expecting heavy rainfall across the entire state. Lola is bringing up a pretty large area of moisture from the south, and so we think there could be heavy rainfall totals for all of the Hawaiian islands all the way from quiet down
to the big island. So, whether or not you actually get the winds, we do want folks to understand that there could be some flooding as we have through the next few days. The Pacific Ocean usually averages eight hurricanes a year. Michigan Democrats are trying to unify after a divisive primary so they can hold on to
a must-win U.S. Senate seat.
But healing those fractures is proving somewhat complicated. Here's NPR's Sam Greenglass. "Adulal Seid has energized the left, as he buys to replace retiring Democratic Senator Gary Peters. I'll say it won the primary in August by roughly a percentage point, but with two months
before election day, some parts of the Democratic coalition are still uneasy. Here's Alyssa Slackin, Michigan's other Democratic senators speaking to the Midland County Democrats. "And I know that you're encountering neighbors and people at the door and everything who are not sure.
But let me tell you, there are plenty of things that I don't agree with I've dual on, but
“we agree on the really important stuff."”
President Trump won Michigan in 2024, and Democrats see retaining the seat as key to retake the majority, Sam Greenglass and Piano's Midland Michigan. The price of a gallon of diesel fuel hit another record today with the nationwide average of 589, according to AAA, California has the most expensive diesel 781 a gallon, it's NPR. The National Transportation Safety Board is sending a go-team to Miami.
After five people were killed today when an Amazon Cargo 767 slid off the runway while attempting to land at Miami International Airport, five others were injured. The plane was in route from San Juan, Puerto Rico. It slid down the runway, went through a barrier, crossed an airport perimeter road, and then struck several cars and then caught fire.
Several other people are also injured in hospitalized. The primary plane came to rest at the northwest area of the runway near a warehouse. Officials say that traveling into and out of the airport the next several days could be difficult. The recent study published in the Nature Journal Nature Researcher's Analyze Genetic
Dinata. Here's NPR's Katie Riddle. Personality is shaped by many factors, including genetics. This study sought to identify genetic variants associated with broad personality traits. Elliott Tucker job is a psychology professor at the University of Texas at Austin and one
of the studies leaders. One of the things that our study underscores is that there's not just one gene for extroversion or one gene for neuroticism. Our estimates are that it's probably closer to 20,000 variants per each of the big five.
The big five refers to five broad dimensions, psychologists used to describe personality, openness, conscientious, extroversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. Although personality can change, these traits tend to remain relatively stable during adulthood, Katie Riddle, and PR News. And from Washington, I'm Dan Ronin, NPR News, support for NPR.
It's the political landscape shifts beneath our feet for all vulnerable to a well-funded distraction economy determined to take our eye off the ball.
