Writing on a social media site truth-social Trump took unbridge with Canada's strict limits on American dairy imports, which has been a historical point of contention with the U.S. and he accused Canada of running, quote, "a scam" in response to which Trump said he'd ordered the GSA to remove all Canadian origin products.
The GSA is the federal government's procurement platform, and it handles hundreds of billions of dollars of orders and contracts for goods and software and other services that support federal offices. Trump also threatened over the weekend to stop Canadian aircraft company bombardier from selling in the U.S. to which the Canadian company put out a statement explaining much of its supply
chain, and its parts are made in the U.S. at American companies. They warned their Chinese counterparts are distilling their best capabilities and threatening U.S. technological leadership. And Pierre's John Ruich explains. The National Security Agency, Cyber Security and Infrastructure Security Agency and FBI say Chinese AI companies, likely with the awareness of the Chinese government have been extracting
massive amounts of data from American AI models through a process called distillation. It says they do it through a range of pathways that violate U.S. AI companies' terms of use. The result is that Chinese AI companies save money and time-building AI that way gaining an edge in the AI competition.
The agencies warn that what they call this, quote, "systematic extraction of proprietary functionalities and capabilities threatens U.S. technological leadership." And the agencies recommend U.S. companies take steps to detect and mitigate the distillation. Chinese President Xi Jinping is due to visit the United States this month and AI's expected to be on the agenda.
