over the state's congressional redistricting battle. There have been different court opinions handed down that favor Missouri's old congressional map or a new one that could favor Republican candidates. It lowers public radio's Jason Rosenbaum explains the Secretary of State has told state election officials to use the map that favors the GOP.
It's a corp battle right now between state and federal judges and redistricting opponents have appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Supreme Court has already refused to weigh in once that with the state Supreme Court ruling, the one that tossed out the GOP leaning out. President Trump is promising to give each American adult $5,000 if Republicans win control of Congress
again in the midterm elections. He made the surprise offer last night while speaking at the Republicans midterm convention in Dallas.

President Trump's proposal to send $5,000 to every American adult would cost $1.2 trillion. This is impractical, imprudent and impossible to imagine actually happening. Of course, we have sent checks to people before we did that during the COVID pandemic,
but that was in an emergency and we're not in that kind of emergency now. This is all showmanship and basically an attempt to try and bribe people into voting Republican in November and then people will learn that the President can't make good on this promise. Record-high fuel prices are driving up shipping costs and PR Scott Horsley reports on how that's being felt at the busy port of Los Angeles.

Two thirds of those shipping containers leave the port on the back of a truck. The price of diesel fuels hit a record high nationwide and it's even higher in Southern California where Port director Jean Cerroca says diesel selling for nearly $8 a gallon. But he's running as fast as they can, but the higher these fuel prices go, just simply mean higher prices for American families.
Escalating tensions in the U.S. war with Iran have pushed crude oil prices higher, the cost of refining oil into diesel fuel is also at record levels. And PR Scott Horsley, it's NPR. The U.S. military says it has conducted another deadly strike on an alleged drug boat in the Caribbean. U.S. Southern command says three people suspected of drug trafficking were killed.

In the U.S. it was the hottest summer in 132 years of record keeping in the lower 48 states. August was also the hottest August on record for both average temperature and maximum temperature. That's according to the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration. Globally, August was also the hottest month ever recorded, tying with July of 2023.
It was about three degrees Fahrenheit hotter than average, according to the Copernicus climate change service. The plan is looking at potentially a hot year ahead, too. A very strong El Nino climate pattern is developing, which raises temperatures globally. Lauren Summer and PR news.
