Well, hey everybody, this is Robert and welcome to Outbreak News TV and today...
to do a quick review, a quick update on the measles situation in Mexico and it's moving
“fast as spreading throughout the country and the numbers are getting really, really high.”
So let's go ahead and get started with that. So in a follow-up on this large measles outbreak in Mexico, the Ministry of Health now reports more than 7,500 confirmed cases from the beginning of the year through yesterday, March 20th, the actual total confirmed cases is 7,584.
Now that compares to their neighbors to the north.
The United States is reporting about 1,500 cases to date and Canada is just went over 500 cases to date.
“So Mexico is the numbers are just exploding there.”
Now the bulk of the cases reported since the beginning of the year are from Jalisco State and they've reported 4,358 of the total cases so far this year.
And this is followed by Chiapas with 650, Mexico City with 563, and Senaloa with 252.
Now in fact, the total confirmed measles cases since the outbreak began in January of 2025. Jalisco has seen more than 5,100 cases to date and this is the most of any state, even Chiwawa, which recorded the most cases in all of 2025. Now in total since the beginning of the year of last year, more than 14,000 confirmed cases have been reported in Mexico.
“In the cumulative count of confirmed cases from 2025 to 2026, all 32 Mexican states have reported”
measles cases and they have been distributed across 443 municipalities. Now concerning the distribution among age groups, the age group with the highest number of cases is ages 1 to 4 years, which is seen over 1800 cases, followed by the age group of 25 to 29, which is seen over 1600 cases, and the age group of 5 to 9 has also seen a little over 1600 cases.
Now the highest incidence rate is observed in children under one year of age with 68.47 cases per 100,000 population. This is followed by the 1 to 4 and the 5 to 9 age groups with rates of 21.66 and 15.37 respectively. Lastly, quickly go about over the deaths, concerning measles related fatalities. There's been 35 cumulative measles fatalities confirmed for the 2025 to 2026 period.
In 2025, there was 27 fatalities and so far this year, there has been 8. It's been distributed across 10 states last year to while I recorded 21 and still remains by far the highest number of fatalities. Gelisco has recorded 4, Durango and Mexico City have recorded 2 each and 6 other states have recorded 1 fatality each.
So that's the latest coming out in Mexico, the numbers are staggering in my opinion, and they're just rising very rapidly and I'm guessing in a week or two, we're going to be over 8,000. Anyway, I appreciate you watching, I ask you to like the video, subscribe to the channel, share it with your friends, and I'll see you next time on Albright News TV.
