Do you know what the story is about?

Do you really think about the story?

I don't think so. This story is my safe space. Do you think all of them are safe? Yeah, exactly.

β€œThis story is the story of the story that you just understand.”

This story is about the job or about it. It's about it. It's about it. I don't think so. The story is about it.

The story is about it. With this story. Now, it's Red Eye Radio. Gary McNamara. And Eric Hurley.

Talk about everything from politics to social issues.

And who's of the day? Whether you're up late or you're just starting your day. Welcome to the show. From the relief factor studios. This is Red Eye Radio.

And, I'm Gary McNamara. He's there. He's there. He's there. And, I'm Gary McNamara.

He's there. He's there. He's there. He's there. He's there.

He's there. He has the morning off.

Breaking news that we're covering here.

In the last hour. The Senate unanimously advanced a deal to reopen Most of the Department of Homeland Security. In the wee hours this morning. Here's the deal.

All right. Democrats got some of what they want. But some of what they also wanted. They could not get. The Republicans didn't get what they wanted fully.

But they did get some of the things that they wanted. This though this deal is what two weeks ago. We said here on Red Eye Radio.

β€œI looked at Eric and I said I think this will be the deal.”

Let's see how close I am. And I just looked at it and said what could be. What once this thing gets to the point of where it was now. I don't believe that Trump saying that he was going to fund. TSA that he was going to do it alone on an emergency.

You know, being the fact that there's an emergency in Congress is taking off for a couple of weeks. That they felt Democrats felt we've got to come to some kind of a deal. And it's what we thought Democrats would go for. I don't understand because this agreement, there is no funding for immigration and customs enforcement and parts of customs and border protection.

But understand that was funding for the future and additional spending. They are still funded to do the operations that they wish to do today. And tomorrow and next week and the week after and the week after that. The Democrats really wanted requiring agents to unmask. We had told you in the house that the problem solvers were talking about.

A deal that would fund everything. But then require agents to unmask and requiring judicial warrants. But for for the unmasking, it would also increase the federal penalties for doxing. And but that was in the house. And we'll see what the house does with this bill.

But the Senate has unanimously passed it. I do believe the Trump they they said we can't take the Trump we can't take. We cannot take the chance a Trump will look like a hero in this. And so what they did is exactly what they thought we thought they would do. Because Republicans can still fund ice.

And the Republicans can pass additional funding for ice. And parts of custom and border protection through reconciliation. They can do that in a bill a month from now two months from now three months from now. So there's time to do it. And we figured because the one problem we had because nobody ever used the word in any in any of the politicians talking.

Whether it was Republicans or Democrats. Nobody ever talked about because we weren't sure.

β€œRemember we were saying are the Democrats saying no funding that they want clawed back.”

What was in the big beautiful bill. And we found out no they weren't talking about clawing it back. And we said well if they're not talking about clawing it back. Then there it is right there that's going to be the eventual deal. The deal is going to be even though ice is funded.

The deal is going to be Democrats saying well we voted not to fund ice. And then Republicans would bring it in and reconciliation. So right now that is the deal let me go further in this story and this was in the last. Uh, our, uh, let me see.

Looking at here.

What a what a Republican saying here.

John Thunes saying. The Senate majority leader saying. The Democrats are walking away empty handed in the policy fight. He said we've been trying for weeks to fund the whole thing. And I mean, in the end, this is what they were willing to agree to.

But again, it's different that it has zero reforms in it. I mean, they got no reforms on the Department of Homeland Security, which they could have. If they had been willing to work with us a little bit on that. The DHS funding deal now heads to the house.

β€œWhere Republicans are not enthusiastic about not funding key components.”

But again, this is where the Republicans plan to do reconciliation to get that funding down the road. Tired of partisan noise. America's more divided than ever, but independent Americans is adding the light to contrast all that. Independent Americans, daily news with Army veteran Paul Rica. Pressing issues of the day, the leaders who are shaping what America will be in the future.

We're going to bring the righteous media five lives, independence, integrity, information, inspiration, and impact. Join the movement. Independent Americans from believe, follow and listen on your favorite platform. Uh, see here.

As I say, I sense the border patrol are still flush with roughly 75 billion in cash from

big beautiful bill given the agencies a buffer for a lot of a period of time. The good news is John Thune said, we anticipated this a year ago.

β€œI mean, one of the reasons we front loaded preloaded up the one big beautiful bill with”

advanced funding for Homeland Security was because we anticipated that this was likely going to happen. And it did, Thune said, I still think it's unfortunate that the Dems wanted reforms. We tried to work with them on reforms. They ended up getting no reforms. And by the way, the fire left's not going to be happy with the deal from Democrats.

I would, I would be very surprised if Schumer wasn't criticized for all of them because it passed unanimously. The same process used to pass the colossal legislative package will likely be turned to again fund immigration enforcement. And that's using reconciliation again, which they'll be able to do. They'll be able to do that.

And I don't think the Republicans that they're going to view it through reconciliation getting the 51 votes is is going to be a, I don't think any Republican fears voting for ice funding in the future. Let me see. Senator Eric Schmidt, envisions funding ice and see BP for several years. Democrats are trying to shut down ice funding for the remainder of the fiscal year.

Ultimately, they won't be successful.

He sent on X in response. I'll be pushing to lock and funding for deportation operations and salaries for a decade. Doing so could be difficult. Still given that Republicans wanted dump several other priorities into the mix, including portions of safeguarding American voter eligibility. America act and funding for the Iran war.

You can get funding for the Iran war. I don't know if you're going to be able to get. I don't know if the parliamentarians are going to allow you to put in the voter ID because it's technically not spending. But I don't know. I don't know how they would write the bill.

You know, would they say, OK, we're going to spend money in order to ensure that everybody can, you know, getting ID doesn't cost you in a particular state. That there's, you know, is that how they're going to do it? I don't know. But. Let me see. Some Republicans are already couching expectations on what they can and can't be accomplished in the party line process,

given that anything in the bill has to pass muster with the strict rules in the Senate. That's true. And that would be the voter ID you might not be able to get through reconciliation. I don't see how you can't get the other things through. Here it is.

β€œI think we have to set our sights a little bit lower on this reconciliation bill.”

It's got to be targeted to fund ice for 10 years. This is Senator Roger Marshall. It's got to be targeted to fund ice for 10 years. And I think that's the number one thing for us. And I think that Trump will agree to sign that.

You get funding for ice. Look, you get funding for ice. You still win the debate on voter ID.

If you're winning the debate year in and year out on that.

That's also extremely important even if you don't get a federal law to pass it. You're not winning the argument on it. And it's a sludge hammer that you can continue to use against the Democrats. So again, the the the the the breaking news. The Senate has unanimously passed a bill that will reopen the Department of Homeland Security.

By the way, they all all of the parties says will reopen most. Don't reopen everything from what I can tell. Ice, you know, ice and parts of CBP won't have future funding what they wanted. But the funding now for significant period of time. I don't know how long 75 billion will will last is is there.

And then the Republicans plan was always to do it through reconciliation.

But this is what Eric and I said. I forgot when we said it, but we said it earlier.

β€œWe said, I believe that this is what I believe this is what the plan's going to be.”

And I actually said to Eric, I go, let's let's pay attention. Here's what I've said, everybody else pay attention. Let's see if this is the eventual deal. And I figured it would be because when the blank hit the fan. And what that was was not the long lines in Houston or Atlanta.

I think the blank hit the fan for the Democrats when Trump came out yesterday and said, I'm doing an executive order because you guys are leaving. This is an emergency. We can't take the chance. I'm going to move funds in the department.

So he was going to take some of that, you know, 75 billion that's been set aside.

And he was going to use that to pay TSA. And as I said earlier, I didn't see where that I didn't see. I said, maybe there's something in the law, but I didn't see any Democrat.

β€œI knew politically that was devastating for Democrats because they didn't want to give Trump the next two weeks.”

Because Trump could say, I funded it. And they're out having fun. They didn't want Trump to get the win on this. So they compromised exactly like we thought they would hear on on on right-eye radio. So we'll keep you updated on that.

And this still has to go to the. This still has to go through the the house. The latest plan came.

I'm reading this from Fox News.

The latest plan came after Senate Democrats blocked a seventh attempt to reopen DHS. After back and forth talks throughout the day on Thursday, a peer to yield. Little progress towards a resolution. Trump also announced his intent to sign an order that would pay transportation, security and

β€œadministration agents as major airports Iraq was staggering lines.”

And I popping way times amid the shutdown. I do believe that that's. What made Democrats compromise on something that they would not want in any of the seven times that they turned it down. They would not agree to this.

They agreed to it because they knew that over the next two weeks. Trump was going to get the credit. Trump was going to be out there every day. Saying I hope when they come back that the Democrats are willing to deal. Because here I've had to come.

And I've had to make sure that the money was allocated. And then he would hold up a dollar dollar bill with his signature on it. I Donald Trump see I'm the one that did this. And they didn't want that to happen. So we'll see what happens in the house.

I would be very surprised if the house didn't pass this. Because they were prepared for it. And they know that they can get it in reconciliation. And the one thing that I know. Because you can justify this to most Republicans.

You can say, look, we plan for this. We're going to do it through reconciliation. Good. And agents are going to be masked when they need to be masked for their own protection. Because of the doxing of Democrats.

And the policy that's existed for decades about getting an administrative or not a judicial warrant. Democrats aren't going to make it harder to expel illegal immigrant criminals out of this country. They got that. The left is going to be furious.

I think I'd be very if I'm wrong, I'll be surprised.

But I wouldn't be surprised if Schumer gets pounded by the left. Because they wanted the unmasking. And they wanted to protect criminal illegal immigrants. They didn't want you to be able to be deported through administrative warrant. They wanted a judicial warrant, which takes a lot more time to get.

You have to jump through more hoops. And they're like, nope, that hasn't been the policy.

Democrats have never agreed with that policy.

We don't want to do it. And to me, if Republicans would have compromised on that, even with fully funding. And getting what they wanted money wise.

β€œI think a lot of Republicans would have said, well, you should have not given them that.”

Just say, okay, we're not going to give you that. And here's the deal. And we'll fund the rest through reconciliation in the future. And we'll do it for 10 years. And then we get more than what we first wanted.

I don't see.

And again, I went through X to see how everybody was looking at it.

There's really not a lot of comment on it because it's so early in the morning. But I would expect. And if I'm wrong, I'd be very surprised. But I just would expect the Democrats will be furious and say that Schumer capitulated because of what Trump did.

I'm hearing Matt Nemera. So just the breaking news is Senate unanimously moved to fund most of the Department of Homeland Security

β€œthrough the rest of the fiscal year, which I believe would be October.”

Except for immigration and customs enforcement and parts of customs and border protection in a rare overnight session, the agreement would fund other DHS components. Again, the things that the Democrats wanted was that ice agents be unmasked and that they needed judicial warrant. Two things that the fire left really wanted they didn't get.

Now this is where and the Republicans are already talking about it. Here are stating they want your reconciliation to fund ice for 10 years. That's where they're going to put in a reconciliation bill for 10 years. But this would be done before October. I know that Trump has talked about that they and other Republicans have talked about that.

They want voter ID in the reconciliation bill. I don't know how you make that a spending bill. I wouldn't be surprised if they just jettison that and said look. We'd like to get it, but this is a hammer that we can pound. This is something that we can pound over the Democrats consistently as we get up to this election here.

But if you solve this problem and you know we had talked about it. I saw David Herzegny the other day or yesterday. Say exactly what we said, which is, you know, this thing gets solved. When you solve this problem with TSA and then if you get some type of resolution in the war, cut the tariffs out.

Gas tax holiday on the federal level. Lower prices, you've still got this thing to hammer him the hammer the Democrats over with voter ID. You get the reconciliation for funding the Department of Homeland Security, including ice or ice specifically for 10 years.

The whole Department of Homeland Security may be for the next 10 years and yo...

And the left will be furious at the Democrats.

We'll see where this all goes. [Music] Tell your friends, we're here tonightly. Eric Hartley and Gary McNamara on Red Eye Radio. And I'm Gary McNamara.

Eric Hartley has the morning off. He returns for Sunday night. Monday mornings show just scanning all the, the news sites out there just looked at CNN looked at Fox. And this is on the, the breaking news that Senate Republicans and Democrats unanimously agreed on Friday to a deal to fund Department of Homeland Security.

It's exactly what we predicted would happen.

I mean, it's exactly, I mean, they're exactly what we have said. And we looked at it politically that if this thing comes to the point of where it is right now, when it came to the point where the blank hit the fan.

β€œAnd I believe that point was not the overcrowded airports, but I believe it was Trump stating, nope.”

I'm going to do an emergency executive order. You folks are headed out of town. We're going to fund TSA with money from that department. We've got future money available. We're not taking anything from from any other agency in Homeland Security. We're taking it from the future funds.

And we're going to fund TSA. I just think that was the last drop for the Democrats. They could not let two weeks go by with Trump saying, I'm the one that saved the airports. But really, I think the bigger breaking news. And I think Eric would agree with me.

I think the much bigger breaking news and Senate Republicans and Democrats agreeing on a deal is that Trump must be asleep because he did not come and on it on true social yet. I just check. So it's three in the morning. He's not up yet.

See, that's the thing. Remember, what was it, was it Hillary? You know, talking about, you know, the three AM call.

β€œWould you want this person waking up and getting the three AM call?”

Would they be able to handle it? And our joke was, well, Trump's already up. You know, it's no big button. And I just, and I bring up Trump because I just wonder, you know, now this goes to the house. And they're going to be Republicans that are not happy that they didn't get the full funding.

But I think the realization came that they weren't going to get funding that they're going to have to compromise here. And then go to reconciliation. And then Senate Republicans are already saying, in case you just tuned in right now, just so you know the deal. The deal funds most of the Department of Homeland Security does not fund ice does not part. Does not fund part of customs and and a border patrol.

And but that's future funding. That's not funding for now. That funding's already there for now. They're still going to be doing exactly what they need to do today. Next week, next month, the month after.

β€œAnd and I believe what's going to happen.”

They've got 75 billion to do that.

I think what's going to happen is as I think because it Republicans are saying it, they want to pass funding. For ice for 10 years in a reconciliation bill. So their point is we're going to get what we want through reconciliation. And the Democrats did not get and you know if you paid attention to this at all, the Democrats wanted ice agents unmasked. And they wanted in order to deport someone a judicial warrant or even or even to go after a criminal illegal immigrant a judicial warrant, not an administrative warrant.

Republicans did not want to give in on those two. And I mentioned earlier that you had the the one group what do they call getting the job done group or whatever it is. I can't think of the name of it in in the house. They were talking about the fact of funding everything. Doing the judicial warrant.

Thing funding all of of of ice and everything else, but it's only for the rest of the fiscal year, which is to October.

I just think Republicans would have said no we're not going to we're not goin...

Judicial warrants and unmasking of ice agents now the in in the.

In that group in the house, which is Republicans and Democrats. They were going to increase the federal penalty for doxing agents. Now, what was the specifics of that? I don't know.

β€œBut I think most Republicans would say, okay, if you got to cut the deal, you cut this deal.”

And then you go through reconciliation and you fund ice for the next 10 years. And it's a win win win win. And that's politically, you know, for your base for Democrats, I still see, again, I'll be very surprised. And I haven't seen much at why I haven't seen anything on social media yet. And I've scanned through it from the left.

I think they're going to be furious at Schumer.

They're going to say he capitulated because we want ice agents unmasked. The left does and we wanted the judicial warrants. The further Republicans to give that up and only get funding to October. I just, I think they would have viewed that as a loss where I view it right now. And I would, I'm looking for what Trump is going to say because I think he's going to tell the house,

past this bill, get it done. We'll do the rest of reconciliation. So there's where we are right now. But I do believe because I said, we call this exactly here on right-eye radio.

And again, it's, we don't have a mole.

We just figured what would be acceptable for the least acceptable thing for Democrats. And we said, but they can go back to their constituents and say, we didn't fund. Give any new funding. We did not vote for any new funding for for ice or the border patrol. Even if they're currently funded because there is no claw back from the big beautiful bill.

That money is still all there. So they weren't able to claw back any money. And they're simply saying, no, we're not going to give funding for them. Here, even though the funding already exists for ice and the Republicans are going to do that through reconciliation.

β€œBut I think that was the least acceptable thing to them where they would go.”

And that's why we said it. I forgot when we said it a few days ago, we could go whatever I can't remember. But we said that would be the one thing because then they could go back into other constituents. We didn't vote for funding for it. But I think even when we said that a while ago, we still looked at it. And the focus from Democrats has been so much on getting the judicial warrant and unmasking ice agents.

That even became a super priority. So I still think that you're going to have people on the left that are just furious about this. But I do think that the one thing that really changed this, as I said, when the blank hit the fan for the Democrats is when Trump came out and said, yesterday, I'm going to fund the TSA agents.

I'm going to fund them. And I didn't see a Democrat come out and say, you can't do that. What I saw was, oh, you could have done that from the very beginning and didn't do this. See, he didn't care. And as we said earlier in the show, well, yeah, but he could come out and simply say, be emergency came after three weeks and then you folks going on vacation for two weeks.

That was the emergency in my mind and he could win that argument.

β€œBut now that's why Trump's going to view this as a success.”

Republicans are going to view what he did as a success. And I also think the public relations at the airports for ice. And did you see some of the video out there on social media or ice agents? They were checking ID. Initially, we thought, well, that might not happen.

They just may be gardening exits. They were checking IDs at airports. Some of them were in line with the machines. I don't know if any of them were actually operating the machine at all. But I saw a few in line helping people get together, you know, giving people water.

And as this continued, you saw more, especially on social media. I don't know what all the local TV stations carried in those particular cities. But obviously, all the local TV stations were reporting lines are a lot less. And the ice agents are here. And they're giving out water.

They're very friendly.

They couldn't also have that going on.

Because there might have been a transition over the next two weeks. There might have been another week. The ice agents might have been there for the next two weeks. And politically, the public relations, which is working against Democrats.

β€œAnd so I believe they had to come up with some kind of deals.”

So that's where we are shortly after 2 a.m. this morning. It was Eastern time. Senators agreed by unanimous consent to approve the legislation. To fund all of DHS to the end of the fiscal year, except for immigration and customs enforcement and the border patrol.

The measure would provide funding for the transportation security administration, the Coast Guard and FEMA. And the money is already there to fund, as we know,

from the big beautiful bill, the 75 billion to fund it.

And then Republicans, again, one more time, just to emphasize this in case you just are waking up right now. They will do that through reconciliation. And the Republican senators are talking about funding the border patrol and ice for 10 years in the reconciliation bill. So I don't see. There may be a little bit of anger, but if you look at the entire picture on the Republican side,

β€œI think Republicans will say, hey, we eventually get everything that we want.”

And I don't see that coming from the Democrats and in public opinion. I think the president comes out looking pretty good. I think ice and the public relation for them over the last few days has also been really, really good. So now. The issue is photo ID.

We've covered that extensively throughout the show.

Cleaning the desk out today, or for this hour, other stories out there, San Francisco School officials voted on Tuesday to restore 8th grade algebra, more than a decade after the district eliminated the course in the name of equity. Is there any of these insane Democrat things that aren't falling by the weight side? Dane and day out just being chipped away little by little by little.

Yep, they got rid of 8th grade algebra more than a decade ago in the name of equity,

β€œpolicy that attracted intense criticism as math scores declined across the district.”

Because they said, well, there are some demographic groups that are falling behind. So let's make everybody stupid. That was the solution from Democrats. The city, the city school board approved the measure Tuesday evening. I love this one by an arrow for three vote.

There's still those Democrats and go, no, we've got to keep the kids stupid. If all demographics can't learn something, then everybody must be stupid. That's the solution. Wow. That's really prolific.

The move reverses a district policy implemented in 2014. That removed algebra from middle schools in an attempt to give minority students more time to learn basic math skills. You could still do that. You could still cut eighth grade algebra and still taught and focused on basic math skills.

Any idiot knows that. But again, as we know, the Democrats knew philosophy is where the leaders were idiots of the people that vote for us that we also believe are idiots. And I want to make this clear one more time for the number of times that we have used that word idiots. In relation to Democrats, we are not calling them idiots.

That is the message that they are communicating to their constituents about themselves. And it's what they have done, especially through voter ID in the last month, about minorities that they don't have the capability to find a birth certificate or to get photo ID. And now, and that's they had to stop that because it was viewed as racist. And so their fallback position was, we're idiots and we don't know how to get a birth certificate either.

Now, we know they're lying, but their messaging in their marketing is we're the party of idiots. The leaders are idiots, the voters are idiots. And because we're all idiots, we're victims from those smarty-pant Republicans who claim that they know how to get photo ID in a birth certificate. β€œEric has a morning off, but he's back for Sunday night Monday morning show.”

You know, this, this deal is exactly what Eric and I said a while back, maybe it was last week. We said, this is what the deal is going to be. You know, this is, and I, and when I was telling Eric when I was going through it, I went.

Now hold me to this. So we had fun with it because again, we were just having fun.

What would it be? What would be the least that they, each would accept.

β€œAnd we said Democrats would come back and say, we didn't fund ice exactly what you're seeing here now.”

Despite not getting any ice reforms, this was a good outcome for Schumer politically. He doesn't have to deal with a split caucus or a backlash from the left about a week deal with the GOP. On the floor, right now, he just doubted DEM unity, no wavering, no backing down, we held the line.

And the reality is, they didn't get the reforms that they wanted and Republicans can pass future funding.

Ice is funded now because of the big beautiful bill, and they can get future funding.

β€œSenate Republicans are talking about a 10 year funding deal for ice and the, the border patrol.”

So it's exactly what we figured would happen, and it did. We'll see whether the house passes it though. [Music] This is Ridae Radio. On Westwood One. The Dan Bontino Show.
