Hello and welcome to the DSR network.
We're here to give you a quick peek at the news and what it may mean. The middle of the summer,
“it's the end of the summer. Summer's almost over. It's kind of grim. So things are a little slow.”
Still, we found five stories to talk about. And Riley will take you through. Starting off with some good news. I guess depending on which part of the Democratic party you're in, stay representative Angie Nixon achieved an upset victory over Alexander Vennman in Florida's Democratic Senate primary. The DSR candidate Best of the Lieutenant Colonel, despite being outspent more than 16 to one. And Vennman receiving backing from the Democratic
San Toro Campaign Committee. Vennman and the DSCC both give their support to Nixon in the wake of
her victory as she prepares to run against Republican Ashley Moody in November. Well, you know, look, there were a variety of results out of Florida yesterday. And this was the one that was best for the progressives. In the gubernatorial race, David Jolly, a former Republican one the nomination. He's familiar to many people as a guy who sort of switched sides and became at kind of a talking head on MS now thoughtful guy. And he has said he will work with Nixon.
And they will try to, you know, get out together and produce the best outcome for the Democrats in
“November. That's what you want to hear. You don't want to hear fighting. Needless to say Nixon's”
victory made a few people uncomfortable. I like Alex Vennman. He's been on our programming a lot. He's a good smart guy. But I think his campaign was pretty lackluster. And she was talking about solving problems for Floridians. And at the end of the day, as I say over and over again, forget the labels, forget whether somebody's progressive or moderate or DSA or whatever, Democrats are for fixing the things that Trump has broken. And she was very specific about that.
And that's good news. Anybody who is out there trying to fix what's broken right now is good news. But it also shows that there are shifts going on across the country where people are tired of the status quo and they want change. And they don't want candidates who look like they are offering the status quo or they are supporting it because they represent special interests or corporate interests. People want people who are going to represent them. And that's the big story of 20,
“26 so far. And I think it'll carry through to the midterms, which grow closer and closer.”
President Trump has implemented a three day pause on the impending 50% tariffs on Canadian goods stating that a tentative trade agreement has been reached. Prime Minister Mark Carney confirmed
that significant progress has been made during the negotiations, though he cautioned that crucial
details still remain unresolved. The perspective deal aims to address longstanding bilateral trade disputes regarding dairy alcohol and automotive sectors while potentially paving the way to revive the keystone XL pipeline project. Well, this is sensible. It's a brief pause getting into a trade war with our closest ally, one with which we have an extensive trade agreement. It's crazy. It's not something that'll benefit the United States. It's not something
that'll benefit US consumers. But you know, you see the way this negotiation is being handled. This is just bullying tactics. And Trump has some real animus towards Canada. Maybe I don't know what it was. He had a bad experience with the, I don't know, Tim Horton's doughnut or you know, container of maple syrup at some point in the past that beaver. I don't know. But the relationship has been thorning. The Canadians have been patient and my guess is that
they'll work something out because it's in the interest of both sides. You know, some ton of that trade is intra-company trade. You know, Ford vehicles go to plant Canada, get something added on, go back to a plant Michigan, get something added on, back and forth, back and forth. So it's not like they're, you know, flooding the market with uniquely Canadian products and it would damage
US companies really severely to get into a deeper trade conflict with Canadian.
The DOJ's defending its prosecution of former FBI Director James Komi asserting that his social
media post displaying sea shells arranged to rate 86-47 could objectively be interpreted as a threat against President Trump. Prosecutors also questioned Komi's explanation of randomly discovering the shell arrangement, suggesting that post was instead a deliberate stunt to promote his upcoming novel. Komi's defense team has pushed to dismiss the indictment as a vindictive prosecution, arguing that investigators conceal the weak evidence and that the phrase 86 simply means to get
rid of or reject some. If you're enjoying this episode and want to get even more out of the DSR

“But of course, it's unjustifiable. It is a vindictive prosecution. If there were a termed for it,”
you know, you could really go after what's at the core of this. They should be sanctioned for ridiculous prosecution for moronic prosecution. Nobody in their right mind talked that Komi was doing anything that was a threat. And frankly, when they say he was doing this as a stunt for his book, that suggests he wasn't doing it for a threat. He was doing it to promote a book. But there's nothing about this that stands up to scrutiny, and it will be a good thing to
put it behind us as I suspect the court will do with some dispatch. Israel carried out eight air strikes against the Abu Duhar air base in northwestern Syria to prevent Turkish troops from deploying there, citing threats to his national security and
“a breach of security status quo agreements. Syria, Turkey, the United States and regional”
Arab nations condemned the strikes, warning that the attack represented an unnecessary escalation that threatens regional stability. Tensions between Israel and Turkey have continued to escalate over Syria following the fall of Bashar Assad's government, even as U.S. mediates security talks between Israel and Syria remain ongoing. Yeah, Captain Netanyahu administration
get along with anyone. The answer is no. This is, you know, disruptive behavior. It is interesting
to see the United States speak out against it. Tom Barak, the envoy in the region, the friend of Trump is speaking out against it. And having said that, I don't know that there's any sense that the United States has much influence over how Israel will behave in this regard. They already know the relationship is decaying, somewhat, and they've always been on their own agenda anyway. The tension with Turkey is deepened over the years. It's always been there
and has been exacerbated most recently by the fact that Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan entered into what they called informally, the Muslim NATO, a new kind of security alliance in the region. And, you know, Israel wants to be the dominant security actor in the region. And if those countries come together or others come together with them, of course, it will
offset that. They've always got a complaint with their neighbors. This, sometimes they've been
in the past justifiable. This one is not. President Trump plans to nominate Dr. Heidi Overton, a White House domestic policy official and proponent of the Maha agenda to serve as the next commissioner of the FDA. A physician and former conservative think tank officer, Dr. Overton has supported reducing childhood vaccination requirements for schools, increasing oversight on food chemicals and drug ads and restricting access to abortion medication. which is the range of political ideas that are considered acceptable by the public at any given point.
“Well, that'd be an interesting irony, as she goes and advances policies that are radical,”
extreme mega policies that are outside the Overton window. They're in the mega window.
And so, who will illustrate the limits and the political dangers of acting outside the Overton
“window better than Overton? Well, that's where we are today and we've got a lot of stuff coming”
