Many Russian people were on the way to the Black Sea with the Black Sea and the Red Sea. The Vivae, the Russian D.E. Hello, everybody and welcome to the DSR Daily. I'm David Rothkoff, I'm joined by Riley Fessler and Minestine. We're here to try to wait through some of the big stories of today,
make sense of them. And do so quickly enough that you can get on with your business. It being the end of summer, time to go to the beach, time to go swimming, time to enjoy the sun, before it all goes away, and you gotta go back to school, and then there are elections, and then there's fascism,
and then we become a police state, and then we all have to huddle in our apartments and not go out, because we're afraid they're going to round this up and send us to concentration camps. I've taken this too far. I know.
It's just sometimes I spiral.
I can't help it. Let me try to get some uplift from the news. Give me something uplifting, guys. Well, I've got a bad story to start. In an interim ruling, the Supreme Court paused a lower court and junction
that had blocked key aspects of President Trump's March executive order, restricting male in voting. The order requires the DHS and the U.S. Postal Service to compile lists of eligible voters and to deliver male in ballots strictly to those listed, while the high court's conservative majority focused on procedural timing,
rather than the underlying legality of the executive order, which is so important, obviously, descending liberal justice is worn to the decision injects severe uncertainty
into the upcoming midterm elections.
Despite the Supreme Court's action, practical implementation remains stalled through the tight timelines and a separate nationwide court order blocking the Postal Service from carrying out the directives.
“Yeah, and I think that's the point here.”
Everybody's a little unnerved by this. They should be unnerved by it once again, the Supreme Court, when given a choice to bend over backwards for Trump or bend over backwards for the law, bends over backwards for Trump,
at least that six-person conservative majority does. But there is this other junction, and where they to go and start implementing things and spite that injunction, that will head straight to the Supreme Court, too.
Will this have an effect on the upcoming election? Well, you know, it does already, as people begin to question whether they can file a mail-in ballot or states begin to think that this may be a problematic area,
you know, and so forth. And so, you know, quite apart from the law, how it impacts people's views, people's actions, those things are all important. The lawyers I've spoken to seem to believe that the case
and the other injunction,
“I think was a case brought by the League of Women voters,”
we will hold up because at the end of the day, of course, elections are the province of the states, not the province of the federal government or the president. But, you know, they're trying everything. Literally, everything they can do, post office,
you know, regulations, cases like this one, they just wanted to discourage people from voting. Now, you know, if there is a bigger tell about what they think of democracy and what they think of the majority view in the United States,
I don't know what it is. They want to keep people from voting because they believe that if people are given an opportunity to vote in a free and fair way, they'll vote against Trump and the Republicans,
because Trump and the Republicans are screwing up their lives.
“And, you know, I still think that's what's going to be”
the driving theme behind this upcoming election, which is 71 days away, 70 days away. But, we've got to stay vigilant because these cases could throw a spanner into the works as they say in the UK.
The Trump administration is preparing to execute the largest mass visa revocation in US history, planning to strip the business and tourism visas of up to 200,000 for nationals, who have applied for or are currently seeking asylum.
The initiative targets visas issue between 2016 and 2026, and a joint effort between the State Department and Homeland Security to target short-term visitors
Using temporary entry to seek permanent status.
While affected individuals with active claims
“will be recategorized without triggering immediate deportation,”
the move underscores a severe tightening of immigration enforcement and is expected to face legal challenges. Yeah, there are a few things I'll react to this. First of all, you know, the next person who comes up to me
and says Marco Rubio's "The Normie" in this administration. I'm going to punch him in the nose. Well, I may not punch him in the nose. That would be violent and uncalled for.
But the reality is Rubio's a mega extremist.
He's the one who was behind shutting down AID, gutting US soft power around the world. That decision, which may lead to 14 million of data around the world, gutting the State Department,
getting rid of the people in the State Department with real experience, promoting programs in places like Europe that promote the far right at the expense of free speech, criticizing countries for, you know,
laws that prohibit hate speech
“because he feels that that's unfair to the far right.”
And this is just another example of that. And of course, the message it sends to the world is terrible. The message it sends about our sense of the rule of law is also terrible
because the law in the United States is
that so long as somebody comes to the country and requests asylum within a year of their entry into the country, that's legal. And they're saying, "No, it's not." You've got to request asylum before you come to the country.
And that's just not the way the law is written. So will this be challenged? Yes. And of course, as I said in the prior story, they don't really care as much about the final judgment
as the effect will it make people less likely to come to the US? Yes. Will it make people who are thinking of staying less likely to apply for asylum?
Yes.
“Will it make those who have applied for asylum”
more likely to come up with another plan?
Yes. And that's what they want. It's just like all their other behavior regarding immigration, where their goal is to reduce the number of immigrants into a country
that was said altogether built by immigrants. Praise. Well, I wanted to remind everybody about the Epstein files because we haven't really talked about it in a while, and they're still not really a satisfying conclusion.
US District Judge Paul Engelmire rejected Giselle Maxwell's a bid to overturn her conviction in 20 years sentence for helping Jeffrey Epstein abuse teenage girls.
Maxwell argued that documents from the Epstein that files transparency act proved her due process rights were violated by accusers lawyers acting as defective prosecutors. However, the judge dismissed her claims as entirely
maritalist, and it largely irrelevant to her case. Yeah, she's going to get pardoned in the middle of the night someday by Trump and Blanche. And those guys, you know that's going to happen. It'll be Friday night, some night at like midnight.
So it gets minimal coverage on the weekend. But of course, you know, it's not the core story here. The core story is that the victims of Epstein and the people around Epstein remain unsatisfied by our legal processes.
They have not had their day in court. They have not had a chance to, you know, speak out, not only against Epstein, but against all the people that Epstein are affected women too, which may well include
the president of the United States who was very close to Epstein as we all know. But once again, you know, you've got Todd Blanche, the new attorney general who's made obstruction of justice in the Epstein case,
one of his principal goals. And you know, it's taking place on multiple levels with multiple lawsuits. Will a change in control of the Congress possibly produce more hearings, more investigations,
a better chance for people to speak out? Yeah, yeah, it might. But we are a long way from justice for the victims of Epstein and the people that Epstein served his cronies, his co-conspirators,

And where are the reasons for me to stay still? Of course, in Europe, there are a lot of reasons with the greatest reasons for the world. A lot of a thousand reasons,

and dear viewers of the DSR network. Well, a little follow-up on our story from yesterday about Trump begging people to vote for Darlead Graham, interim Senator Darlead Graham,
and US Representative Ralph Norman, face off in a South Carolina Republican primary runoff today to replace the late Lindsey Graham. President Trump strongly backed Graham, providing high profile endorsements and campaign resources
to assist the political newcomer. Meanwhile, Norman emphasized his extensive legislative experience while criticizing Graham's qualifications, following a notable debate missed step regarding foreign policy. What's not just that?
I mean, the foreign policy missed step, which she said, I don't know anything about that. That is kind of a missed step if you're running for the Senate. But another of her, you know, missed steps is when somebody asked
or what are you going to do about the affordability issues you care about. And she said, well, you'll see when I get there.
“First of all, I think she's the acting senator already,”
so she's already there. I have no kind of affinity for a guy like Norman, but he's far more qualified than she is. And she should lose this thing if the people of South Carolina have any self respect. Do the people of South Carolina have any self respect?
Doesn't seem likely. They kept electing Lindsey all these years. I even after he became the big mega protector of Donald Trump. But we'll watch it closely. And, you know,
and with some interest, because if she got rejected by the people of South Carolina, that would not sit well with our friends and the White House, high friends. Well, to wrap things up on a very serious story, President Trump announced on truth,
social that the U.S. is considering renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America, amid an escalating trade dispute with Canada. The body of water is one of the five great lakes, since it's directly along the board between New York and the Canadian province of Ontario. And response, Canadian, Minister Dominic LeBlanc,
stated that the federal government would not respond to daily social media posts from the U.S. administration, which is a good way to stay sane, so I applaud them for their strength. Well, I don't have that kind of strength, Riley,
and I will respond because, first of all,
you know, think of how stupid it is for Trump to say. And let's just strip away, you know, the trade war we shouldn't be in the costs of the trade war, the impact on farmers, the impact on workers in the U.S., the impact on the elections,
the impact on the global trading system, the impact on America standing in the world. Let's set all that aside,
“even though that's what's really important here.”
Well, we've got as the president of the United States, behaving like a big boob. And everybody out there in the world just sees it, and they're like, yeah, he's a boob. He's an idiot.
The Canadian response to all of this has been really, really, acid. It's got under his skin, and he has been on social media saying, the Canadians are the hardest people to deal with in the world. Interesting, since Canada is one of our closest friends,
whatever closest trading partners. And, you know, it's an absolute scientific fact that Canadians are the nicest, most likable people in the world. I mean, you just, how do you pick a fight with Canadians? You really, really have got to bend over backwards to do it.
Meanwhile, the response to Trump's idiotic, like America posed has been great and created a lot of, you know, what's best about the internet. You know, there are people saying, we should rename like Huron after Trump and call it like Moron.
There are people who said that we should name Lake Superior after Trump and call it like inferior. There are people who said we should then rename like Huron.
After something Trump really cares about and call it like Epstein
and a congressman from Michigan, Debbie Dingle said,
let's rename it like Natalie, so we know you'll really care about it.
“Which, you know, that's pretty sharp, pretty stinging”
because people are making fun of the president of the United States because, as I said a moment ago, it's a big boob. He's an idiot. He's an empty suit. It's so bizarre and, you know, our fate is tied to that. Anyway, Lake Ontario is called Lake Ontario just like the Gulf of Mexico is called
the Gulf of Mexico and the straight of Hormuz is called the straight of Hormuz
contrary to Trump wanting to rename all of these things because he wants to rename everything. You know, I mean, the folks at the Kennedy Center, you know, I filed a suit today saying, unless you allow us to call this the Kennedy Center
“or the Trump Kennedy Center, we won't be able to raise money for it”
because the Trump name carries so much cashier with it. However, unfortunately for them, a story broke in Washington Post exactly simultaneous to their case saying that as soon as they called it
the Trump Kennedy Center, donations fell off, ticket sales fell off
and the place started circling the drain. So apparently, the Trump name doesn't have the value that you think it would. And his propensity for naming things remains dopey, wherever we encounter it. Anyway, that's it for the news today.
