Hello and welcome to the DSR Daily.
Minnesota Stein. We're here to talk about what's going on in the world today, which does
“bring up a question. What day is it? It's like Thursday or something, all right?”
Turn it long as. Yeah, okay. I just wanted double check. Sometimes, you know, in the summer, it's really, it's kind of hard to tell and there was a three day week and then, you know, anyway, anyway, it's Thursday. So let's talk about what's happening in the world. Shall we? We shall. The house has passed a war power's resolution in a 215, a 208 vote directing a president Trump to withdraw U.S. troops from Iran unless he obtains explicit congressional approval
backed by four Republican defectors, the vote signals a growing by partisan review of the administration's
handling of the format conflict. Well, my partisan. I don't know how long the Democrats in
“former. Yes, how wide of a bipartisan I agree. But, you know, at least some. Yeah, exactly.”
There's now heads to the Senate and it's legal affordability remains highly contested as it would likely require a presidential signature or two thirds veto override to legally bind the commander and chief. Yeah, look, I mean, he's he wouldn't sign it. He wouldn't be bound by it. The Senate may not pass it. But it's a sign, right? It's a sign that Republicans are growing less patient with the war. They're growing less patient with Trump. A few of them are
stepping up, stepping out, being, you know, feeling more comfortable than they would have before to challenge him. That's not got significance not just with respect to the war, but also with respect to Trump's political fortunes. You know, he's losing a little bit of his mojo. Frankly, at this point, I'm surprised he has any mojo left. But, you know, there's this myth around Trump within the Republican party. There's this kind of aura. He's the guy. You don't mess with the guy. Sept is 80. He's fallen apart.
He's mentally not with it. Did you see yesterday his brilliant suggestion about that he said, well, you know, the iPhone tower was only built for one event and then they'll kept it up. Maybe we should do the same thing with the Octagon we're building in the South law. Maybe we should just leave that. That seems like a good idea. Yeah, that's a good idea. That's that seems like a great idea. And so, you know, that's, you know, and nobody is like, hey, you know,
that's crazy. This guy needs the men with the butterfly nets to come and get him and put him into a nice padded room where he can't hurt himself. But that's, that's where we are. You know, we also criticized Caitlin Collins for not smiling enough again in his press event yesterday,
which was the first time in like a week. He'd actually appeared in public.
We live in a strange and interesting times. Now, you may have noted that in this entire little discourse on this, I haven't mentioned the Iran war once. You know, why? Because I don't think this vote will have much of an effect on the Iran war. Trump's going to do what Trump's going to do. Baby's going to do what baby's going to do. The Iranians are going to do what the Iranians are going to do. And this thing is going to fester for some time to come. I did see yesterday that
like poster that Trump had made where it was like these are all the tallest buildings in America. And here's how tall the reflecting pool is in comparison. Yeah. No, I had seen that a couple of days earlier. And I thought, oh, this is AI. Because nobody would be this stupid to actually suggest there was anything comparable. And yet there he was saying, you know, this is a big job
“because the reflecting pool is taller than a tall building or longer than a building is tall. What?”
Okay. What? What? Seriously. If you had a relative who was behaving like this, you know, you'd have him sit in a living room with a drink, you'd take care of him, you'd say Uncle Bobby is losing it. And we're just going to, you know, we'll make him comfortable in his last days.
Well, this guy's going to make us uncomfortable throughout his last days.
What else? Oh, no. I've the United States. Well, I, I, I, I, I'm kind of clairvoyant.
“I know you're going to offer me a story that proves it. Exactly. President Trump announced yesterday”
that he will formally nominate acting attorney general Todd Lynch. They'll the role permanently. The announcement was made during a White House dinner event. Positions, Trump's former personal defense attorney to officially take the helm of a justice department. He has aggressively reshaped over the last two months. Then I'll do it. That's charming. Aggressively reshaped. For the words. Yeah. Yeah. Aggressively turned into, you know,
the hub of a crime family. But yeah, go out. The nomination signals Trump's trust in Blanch.
You stepped into the leadership vacuum following the fire of him. Bondi and April. That feels like a thousand years ago. While Blanch faces a challenging Senate confirmation battle. His brief tenure as acting attorney general has already left an indeniable mark on the agency's operational direction. Yeah. You know, there's some people out there to say, well, you shouldn't force, you know, call for Trump's people to resign because he's only going to replace them as worth
people. And so this week, we had, you know, Bill Polty replacing Telsi Gabbard, even just an acting
role. He can be in that role for some time. And now you have this. And, you know, is Todd Blanch worse
“than Pam Bondi? Well, that's, I believe that to the philosophers. I mean, you know, that there's”
some pretty subtle distinctions there. They're both awful. But Todd Blanch is obstructing justice, enabling crimes, promoting, you know, the, the rewarding of people who attacked the capital, enabling vindictive prosecutions. He, he, he shouldn't be attorney general. He should be disbarred. Put on trial and possibly go to jail. And, and here's where we, you know, occasionally, we make our big predictions here. I don't think Todd Blanch is going to get confirmed as attorney
general. It becomes too much of a referendum on Trump corruption. And, you know, even Democrats who are not messaging geniuses will realize that that's the case. And they will push. And, you know, you know, in my sense, my sense is there will either be enough Republicans of the, you know, there, there are a bunch of them, Bill Cassidy, Tom Tilles, who, you know, have been pushed out to my join Lisa McCowski and Susan Collins that, that it, that it would block it. And, and so,
not only do I predict he won't get confirmed. I predicted some point than not to distant future, the nomination that was drawn. And, you know, Trump will say, well, I did my best, sorry, Todd. But, I mean, it's an appalling idea. It's a, you could, you could say, well, I'm going to appoint, you know, any senior official from the Gambino crime family to run the Department of Justice. And it would probably be less damaging than this guy, Todd Blanch. Well, speaking of ongoing
conflicts in the Middle East to fault, my last story, Israel and Lebanon have agreed to renew a fragile ceasefire in established pilot security zones and southern Lebanon where Hezbollah operatives will be banned. Well, that sounds great because they've agreed. And, and there are the two sides that are fighting with each other, isn't that right, Riley? That's right. But, you know, it doesn't agree. Oh, who is Hezbollah? Which is the important. Yes, since they're the ones that
Israel's actually targeting. Yeah, so, you know, it's still still still still still still still. Yeah, so, so Israel is not at war with the government of Lebanon. It may have bad intentions
“for the government of Lebanon. I think that's true, but it's not at war with, it's at war with Hezbollah.”
And Hezbollah has not been party to these negotiations. And Hezbollah has said, no, right? I mean, so it's, it's a non-starter. Wouldn't that be true, Riley? That is true, because this agreement was contingent on a complete cessation of attacks and the evacuation of Hezbollah forces south of the Latani river. And, yeah, it's, it's a non-starter because Hezbollah's already rejected this,
It's basically meaningless.
and, but it keeps open one of the issues that must be closed if there is to be any kind of even
“an interim agreement with the regard to Iran. And that's the problem with, you know, going into”
partnership with one of the worst guys in the world, baby Netanyahu. Café and seiner best in form with their nine Cuba, one capsule machine von Chiebel. In jeder Cuba capsule, there is no better place than right here than right here. I'm sure you can see that. There are a lot of people who are interested in this. And, yeah, there are a lot of people who are interested in this. And, yeah, there are a lot of people who are interested in this. And,
so, there are a lot of people who are interested in this. And, so, there are a lot of people who are interested in this. And, so, there are a lot of people who are interested in this. And, so, there are a lot of people who are interested in this. And, so, there are a lot of people who

Well, I'm going to shift gears a little bit. It'll be a relief. So, far, this has been, you know, pretty crappy. But, come on, shift gears.
We're going to do an ad-home check-in on how things are going. With me, I feel fine. Thank you. I felt like you needed a check-in. With mental health check-in. And, I'm glad you're doing well. Now, we're going to do a pulse check on everyone else in America. Okay. The U.S. labor market continues to exhibit a highly distinctive low-higher, low-fire, structural equilibrium, according to a duo of major employment reports released by the
labor department and challenger Gray and Christmas today. While initial filings for jobless benefits ticked up higher than Wall Street projections last week, the overall trend points to a resilient, defensive job landscape. Employers are fiercely hoarding, existing staff, despite a widening technology sector workforce contraction and mounting structural uncertainty tied to the
multi-month war with Iran. Yeah, just, you know, be patient folks. You know, first of all,
I don't trust anything that comes out of the labor department. Sorry, call me a cynic. But secondly, there are only two kinds of signals that they give us. Bad ones and mixed ones. There's no good ones. Is the problem from the, or are the problems associated with the Iran war going to continue on? Yes. High prices. Yes. Global economic sluggishness as a result. Yes. Do we want the risk of an AI bubble someplace? Oh, yeah. There are other things that could disrupt
markets and cause a big downturn. Are we just around the corner from labor market dislocations associated with AI? Also that. So, I don't know, I wouldn't get super complacent about this as an economic signal and I wouldn't get super complacent about this as a sign of where labor markets are going. Well, we're wrapping up with a DC story because I thought this was a little interesting,
“a new analysis. That's what we go for. Hi. Welcome to the DSR Daily. What we try to do is”
focus on things that are a little interesting. Not too interesting. Not, not that would be overwhelming. Yeah. No, it's just right. Go on. And the US analysis reveals the National Guard deployment in DC
reduced opportunistic property counts by 24 percent. But had it no effect on violent crime,
despite costing taxpayers $1.5 million daily, despite these findings federal officials intended, double the troop presence to $5,000 this summer as part of a law enforcement surge ahead of America's 250th birthday celebrations. Or the election, one of them, one of them, or Trump, I think Trump's those are getting a little paranoid. If you really want to know the truth, he doesn't go out. He's afraid people are going to try to shoot him. Even though, you know, that,
you know, I think the attacks on him have been defended against pretty well. And, you know,
He's trying to build this bunker with a hospital in it and so forth because I...
going out. The only counter sign of this is that, did you see yesterday that they're actually
“going to hold the White House correspondent's dinner again? Did not see that. Yeah, I'll enjoy it.”
On July 24th, the losers who run the White House correspondent's association have agreed to do,
at this dinner that they shouldn't have held in the first place, but Trump wants to do it again,
so he can go and tell his jokes. And anyway, you know, this is all performative, it's all, every, we're all just figments of Trump's imagination right now. And he can spend money just by
“thinking it. You know, it's just, it's a, we shouldn't have more troops. Okay, okay, boss.”
Millions of dollars a day, let's invade Iran billions of dollars a day. I'm going to build this
thing. Let's paint these statues gold. Let's build an arch. Let's do this. Okay, boss. It used to be that the Congress was involved in this and involved in spending decisions. It's not true anymore. All Donald Trump has to do is think it and it happens. And, you know, since as we were saying
“a little bit earlier, he's out of his nut, that's not great. Because then you end up with the”
ifle tower on the south lawn, the ifle tower of tackiness on the south lawn, and you end up with
things like troops in the streets that don't actually help anything. In fact, I don't know about you guys, but when I'm like out, I haven't lunch and all of a sudden, like a little squad of guys, and, you know, military outfits walk by, it makes me uncomfortable. You know, it doesn't make me feel more secure. It makes me feel like I live in a police state. But that I guess is a plus in his mind. Anyway, we'll talk a little bit more about his mind today on words matter with Norm Ornstein and
our friend Mary Trump, who is both the psychologists and the niece of the president of the United States. So that's something to look forward to. And if you haven't listened to Deep State radio from yesterday about where we are politically in this country, you know, really should really good discussion. And we've got more to like this every day. Come in your way. So we will see tomorrow and see it those places and take care of yourselves. And thank you, Riley. And thank you, Mina.
Bye, bye.
