Hello and welcome to the DSR Daily, I'm David Rothkoff, your host joined by h...
Riley Fessler, and Minestine, how are you doing today, guys? Not too bad. Doing okay.
“It's summertime, you know, it's like, you know, life is slower.”
I'm sure. I'm sure we have slower stories about people spending lazy afternoons at the beach, right, Riley? Mm-hmm. They're so right, David.
It's so right.
So, can you give us the first beach story you've got, beach reading for DSR.
Well, the Iranian military and Israel exchanged some strikes over the weekend, but as of this morning, the most recent news we have and this is ongoing as we're recording this. We'll be updates throughout the day, but the Iranian military announcement is halting offensive operations following the exchange of missile strikes.
“They shattered their two-month ceasefire by trading those strikes earlier today and escalated”
the conflict. But of course, has been ongoing and causing a bevy of issues for everyone. Well, let me give you a little subtext of all of this that will be interesting to DSR fans everywhere.
Our friend and our colleague from Deep State Radio, Edlus, called the President yesterday
as one does as fancy reporters do on a Sunday afternoon. He called up Trump and he talked to him and Trump said, "You know, I'm in control of this. Bebe will do exactly what I say." And of course, then three hours later, Bebe attacked Iran. And so it just made him look ridiculous, Israel attacking, it was a kind of big effuted
the United States, but quite a part for the fact that it was humiliating for Trump. The point here is he is not in control of this. The Israelis have their own agenda, they will do what they want, the Iranians have their
“own agenda, so a story this morning that said, I think accurately, that they have concluded”
that Trump will not launch a big attack on them. And because he doesn't want this word to go out of hand. And in fact, what happened was there was a big exchange overnight. It had some interesting twists, including the Houthis launching a missile at Israel, which seems to be an expansion of the conflict, and of course the Iranians launching attacks
against bases in friendly countries. But then it was followed this morning with Trump on true social saying, "Everything's fine. I talk to Bebe and everything's fine." Well, of course, why did he do that? Because the markets were about to open, and he didn't want to get hit with spiking oil
prices or plummeting stock market. But look, if the markets have not priced it, volatility like this, for the foreseeable future, they don't understand what's going on. We are no closer to a resolution of this than we were four months ago. Well, our next story is shifting gears a little bit.
And we're going to talk about our Deva in chief. President Trump sat down for a wide-ranging highly contentious interview with NBC News as Kristen Walker on Meet the Press, which aired yesterday. I was filmed in a barn, and Chippewa Falls was Wisconsin. He in a remarked a turbulent checkpoint as the administration approaches the 18th month
mark of Trump's second term.
The conversation abruptly collapsed after 35 minutes when the president launched into a furious tirade against a welker and the mainstream media, throwing his microphone on the ground and walking out after being fact checked on his claims of election fraud. Yeah, well, stumbling out, he could barely stand up. First of all, the setting was goofy as heck, and I'm sure the White House was like,
hey, we want to connect to farmers, but I'm put a tractor in the background. And so, you know, there were tractors in, hey, and Trump, Mr. Farmer, he was, he looked incredibly out of place there, although. We saw that one, I mean, yeah, yeah, exactly. Anyway, yeah, as a, yeah, green acres is the place to be.
Yeah, so that I'm hearing, farm, living is the life for me. That's the next line of that song, of case he was. Apparently not, though, because he stormed out of the barn and to the poor. Well, well, so let's talk about that a little bit.
What triggered him was that he had one key talking point, and his key talking...
is American elections are rigged.
Why is that his key talking point? Does he care about whether Steve Heldon is a group of editorial candidates in California
“or Spencer Pratt runs for mayor in the next round of the elections?”
No, he doesn't care. What he cares about is the ability to negate the upcoming November elections by saying they are rigged. And so he's seeding the clouds with these kind of accusations. And most reporters, particularly the kind that he's used to, it Fox and other places,
they just go, yes, sir, and even some qualified reporters don't ask him the follow-up questions that he ought to be asked. So what happens? He gets away with it.
Christian Walker, in an act of, you know, journalistic professionalism, said there's no evidence
that supports that. And he went nuts because two things. One, he doesn't like being challenged. But, too, there's no evidence that supports it, right, it's complete fabrication that there's anything wrong with this.
“California results are proceeding exactly as you would expect.”
They have a slow-counting system there. It's ridiculous in this day and age, but they do. And the results are following just exactly what you would expect if you tracked the demographics of different regions as they came in. Anyway, he went nuts and then had some kind of unfortunate encounter with the rain because
he doesn't like the rain because it messes with his few remaining strands of hair on his
head. But it is consistent with a theme of Trumps. And that is trying to suppress, free press, trying to suppress, to send, trying to suppress the truth. And, you know, that had other manifestations this weekend, including pushback at 60 minutes
to the takeover of that network by Trumpist supporters, by Scott Pellie, a reporter at 60 minutes saying that censorship was going on there. We all knew that, but again, it's helpful when you see evidence. And it's good when reporters stand up to the president. But there's more of that in the future, our friend Mary Trump, who is on our podcast with
“Norm Ornstein, late last week, if you missed it, you should definitely listen, said in response”
to the president's meltdown. He's obviously super fragile. And this is the moment that all reporters should be doubling down with fact checking him in real time. Couldn't agree more.
Funny you should mention Scott Pellie, because that is my next story. Well, funny. And that interview you alluded to, he alleges that CBS news achieved very wise, attempted to exert political influence for a segment regarding immigration protests to align with president Trump's version of events.
Pellie claimed a wise unsuccessfully pressured him to make protesters appear more violent, than alter the description of a fatal shooting, describing an unprecedented level of editorial interference in his 37-year career. CBS news for its part rejected Pellie's claims stating, "Wise is now it's where standard editorial feedback aimed at ensuring fairness and accuracy."
Yeah, I'm in luck. Café in his best form. With Cuba, we'll take a café off-knopf-truck at the end of the moment. Then with the new Cuba-Wan Capsule Machines of Chiba, Gennies Dufeinsten Spitzen Café, a special one-in-an-bouge beat.
Folle-mundige aroma, dank innovativa, press-brut technology, and oversip-zinsorten café for jeden-gish-mack. Elepa Premium Café is already at the end of the year. And decades, the Cuba-Capsule Machines, in Deiner Chiba-Fiiale, and of Chiba-Dee. This is, you know, exactly what we expected when the Allison's board CBS.
Well, it's exactly what we expected from Barry Wise, who is a political hack. It is disappointing. It is good he stood up to it. I'm disappointed that some of his colleagues said, "Well, we're going to stay at 60 minutes to help fight for it."
Bullshit. They should all leave, go take the show some place else, do it some place else, don't continue to work for people who are committed to twisting the truth to serve their political agenda. They've crossed too many lines at CBS, the brand is dead, it is of no value.
It should be, you know, nobody here who's interested in finding out what's happening in the world should ever tune into CBS news. And frankly, I don't think most of you do, because it's over, overkilled.
Defense Secretary Pete Higgs-Seth, true, sharp reviews from European leaders ...
a D-Day anniversary address in Normandy, France to condemn European migration policies. Speaking 82 years after Allied forces liberated Nazi occupied Europe, Higgs-Seth explicitly compared modern asylum seeking arrivals to a hostile quote unquote invasion, claiming that Western capitals are allowing dangerous ideologies to compromise their hard-fought historical freedoms.
Yeah, I mean, it was disgusting, Higgs-Seth is always disgusting, and it was stupid,
and Higgs-Seth is always stupid. How did that guy went to Princeton? I don't know, why they haven't revoked his degree, I don't know, why weren't in hasn't revoked Trump's degree?
“I don't know, but you know, what was wrong with his statement?”
Well, first of all, he was there to honor the D-Day dead and the sacrifices of D-Day. You didn't do that, Trump didn't do it either, by the way, on social media. And then there was, you know, the point he was trying to make, you know, he didn't want
to talk about the hard-fought freedoms that U.S. soldiers actually were fighting and dying
for, which is defeating fascism, defending free speech, defending free elections, all the things that he and his colleagues are attacking, and Staddy decided to make it a racist speech that was consistent, actually, with the message of the people we were fighting during the Second World War. He then, you know, made this analogy that the real invasion is from these immigrants, forgetting
of course that on D-Day, the invaders were the good guys because the racist were the bad guys,
“the fascists were the bad guys, and he got booed in France and, you know, this has happened”
before that happened last year. Pinoids said there's not like D'In Europe because it doesn't like Europe and he doesn't
like what we have always stood together for, and they see him as the threat that he is.
I wish more Americans saw him as the threat that he is. There's a little bit of a curfuffle this week because, you know, thanks to the advice of one of his evangelicals when the military was making a list of, you know, Christian denominations for which, you know, they were setting aside certain kinds of provisions. They didn't include Mormons, which, you know, evangelicals don't consider to be Christian faith.
And this pissed off Senator Mike Lee, who's one of the nettyest of the Trump followers. And, you know, I don't support what Hague says did, but you do like to see some of these guys getting a taste of their own medicine. Surely there's one more story. We've got one more good one.
If federal lawsuit has been filed by the public integrity project, seeking to block the upcoming UFC fight on the White House Southland. Yeah, good. I hope they succeed. That'll be great. Which is, of course, scheduled for June 14th to celebrate Trump's 80th birthday in the nation's 250th anniversary because nothing says happy birthday in America, like a fight on the White House
lawn to celebrate the King. Yeah. It's like nothing says America's made a lot of progress, like gladiators fighting in front of the emperor. Yeah. Right. That's really good.
“Look, I don't know if they could stop it, but wouldn't it be great if they could?”
I mean, their argument is that the whole thing is a scheme to make money for people. And it isn't abuse of federal property and a violation of federal law. Sounds reasonable to me. Got to watch this story. Just like we have to watch and Trump's showing up at the next game tonight. You know, in one of the most annoying developments, you know, he's going and they had to cancel all the watch parties outside Madison Square Garden, which is the only place real new yorkers can
actually participate in any of this because the cheapest seat available in Madison Square Garden is 10,000 bucks, which is disgusting. And yeah, I get it secondary markets and whatever, but you know, you could have laws. You know, these, you know, these, these sports teams want all these benefits from cities and, you know, they want tax breaks and they get police support and they get all the support that they, that they want, you know, the city could just simply say, you know, at, at sporting events,
some number of thousands of seats will be available, but a price that the public can afford.
It's illegal to scalp.
people will go after you. You know, all you have to do is enforce that a couple of times and
“all of a sudden you'd have normal people being able to go to these games. I said this, by the way,”
social media and people are like capitalism and I'm like, yeah, oh shit, exactly by point, you're going to have, you know, this, this wonderful event that millions of new yorkers
want to be part of. And the only people who are going to attend it are going to be
you know, Wall Street bankers and people on corporate expense accounts. That's all billionaires,
“rich guys, they get to celebrate. And I don't know, it makes my skin pretty. Well, I watch,”
yeah, watch, because I'm going to nick fans since I was a kid and this is, you know, good news, but watch closely and see how the crowd responds to their first Trump sightings. I don't think it's going to be super enthusiastic, even in a crowd full of oligarchs. Anyway, we'll talk about that tomorrow. Just like we'll talk about everything else that's going on in the world each and every day this week.
As we always do on the DSR daily, on the new republics daily blast, on the state radio, on
where it's better, on silicon consciousness, on need to know. And you can subscribe and follow this on YouTube or wherever you get your podcasts. And starting next week, the best place to follow what we're doing or to subscribe and be a member is to go to Substack where you'll be able to enjoy our feeds and that will be delivered right to your door and it'll be super easy if you want to give us a little support for you to give us a little support and we could use it because we're
independent media. And the elephants aren't going to buy us. I mean, you know, if the price is right, I'm willing to throw my values at the window, but I don't think that they're going to buy us. And so that means we're going to be scrappy independent voices for truth until the price is right. I joke. We have principles. We have principles. We have meetings.
“Riley is a radical. He's a, he's a downcrack socialist, aren't you, Riley?”
Beek for yourselves. Yeah, no, menas of republican. Also, we call her mega mena. No, we don't. No, we don't. No, we don't. That would be an insult. Anyway, it's been pleasure to see you guys this morning. It's been a pleasure to join all of you and we'll see you at the later.
