Hello and welcome to the DSR Daily. I'm David Rothkoff. I'm joined by Riley Fessler and Minis Stein. We're going to take you through a few of the news items that are happening today, with only a few wars in the world, presidential corruption, on high, the president just now, as we're
recording this IDV, talking about his ballroom, suffering, as I just did. Apparently, in ability to come up with any of the words he wants to use, he's talking a lot about the reflecting lake, and saying that he is going to make it waterproof. What waterproof lake? That is innovative.
Anyway, you can tell that with these kinds of things, I guess we're prepping for summer and a slow-ish news day, but Riley, why don't you kick us off with something? We've got some more primary news ahead of the 2026 midterms, and the key one today is Kentucky, because Thomas Massey is on Trump's shit list, and we have a primary challenge. That would take all that on major news networks.
“That's what we call it on our major news.”
And that's why you're here, folks, because we don't call our punches. And so in this incredibly expensive primary, what's going on? Yeah, Trump is throwing his way behind at a gallerine, and as you alluded to, the most expensive US House primary in history, no good. People clamored for more money in politics, and they got it, because combined spending
has reached over 32 million dollars.
So we're really happy how this one shakes out. Special and a lot of the ads, by the way, are like AI ads, you know, this guy Gaurin, who's like an X Navy SEAL, shows Massey hanging out with Ilon Omar, because oh my God, how terrible was that, and then there's some AI ad that shows Gaurin leaving Trump behind on a battlefield.
Oh my God, it's, it's just sort of the worst of US politics, but we'll follow closely, because Trump is obviously set his sight on getting Massey scout, because Massey wants to talk about Epstein, and Massey's willing to stand up to Trump, even though Massey has a very, very right way to the public in Congress.
“Uh, anyway, it's certainly to be one of the big stories this evening, but let's remember”
as we discussed earlier, this is a primary, it reflects the views of the most active Republicans, in other words, primaries, you know, primaries get only people who really engaged in politics to show up, and in the Republican Party primaries, therefore, are really a place where the more extreme people do well, because the, the, the most motivated Republicans also tend to be the most extreme, men up.
Well, Trump yesterday announced that he has temporarily halted a large scale US military assaults on Iran, which is originally scheduled for today.
He decided to do a casual pause on that after the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qa...
asked him not to to allow room for escalating peace talks.
Despite all of that doing the right thing, Trump issued a stark warning that the military remains prepared to launch a full-scale assault on a moment's notice. So, one step forward, three steps back, unless Iran refuses to mean his core demand, a complete dismantle of its nuclear aspirations. Yeah, that's not going to happen.
This looks like it's going to drag on and on.
“I'm not sure I believe anything that Trump says about what his plans were or weren't.”
I don't get the sense that they were really serious about an attack right now,
but I do believe that the countries in the region don't want the US to attack because what happens when the US attacks is they get hit. We strike out at our friends, get hit. So, I understand why they would like that not to take place. You know, how long can this go on?
I don't know, we do see some signs that the markets anticipate, that because of this unrest,
high energy prices, high food prices, high fertilizer prices, the whole range of things
affected by this conflict will continue through the election. And even if the war were to actually stop tomorrow, that's probably the case for a variety of reasons, delays and in supply chains and so forth. But what seems more likely is that this is going to fester for a while. That's going to push prices up periodically, it's going to make things worse.
And whatever, you know, as happening in Republican primaries, is very, very quickly going to get superseded by the reality of the American public being real, real and happy with the state of the US economy. And that's the way to look at it. The war in Iran is a factor in prices at your local
“supermarket at your gas station where you shop, and that's how it's going to be.”
What we have a positive ruling in New York, because US district judge Kevin Castle ruled that federal agents can no longer make immigration arrests without exceptional circumstances in and around a three-man hat and court buildings. This decision abruptly halts the Trump administration's practice after government lawyers conceded that recent enforcement policies did not apply to immigration courts. So civil rights groups are happy about this. It's a small victory, but a victory nonetheless,
hopefully more are coming. Hopefully, but you know, Tom Holman and the other folks at DHS are now promising more round-ups of more people, more organized actions in big cities like we saw in many apolis, and that we're sort of coming out of a wall in all of that. So I would expect more laws to be broken, more norms to be broken, and a lot of human suffering as a result of all of this. There was an interesting segment this morning on Morning Joe and which analyst from the Brookings
Institution went through some analysis they did that suggests that at the bare minimum, something like 100,000 children have been separated from their parents as a result of Trump
“immigration enforcement, and it is important to note that the vast majority of those children”
are actually American citizens. It's also important to note that only about 7% of the people to get rounded up by this administration have any criminal background, which means 93% of them don't pay taxes, they work in your communities, they are good Americans, they're good participants in our society, and as I say, many of their children are American citizens. So these winds come and go in the courts, but I suspect that for the remainder of this year, and perhaps
well into the next couple of years, we're going to see a lot of families broken up, a lot of
Suffering, a lot of corners cut by DHS, and a lot more stories like this one.
Tragedically three adults were killed and two are suspected dead following a shooting at the
“Islamic Center of San Diego yesterday, authorities confirmed that the two suspects ages 17 and 18”
also died at the same from self-inflicted gunshot wounds. The incident is being actively investigated as a hate crime by local police and the FBI due to general hate rhetoric that was involved, those officials state there is no further active threat to the public.
Yeah, horrible kind of thing that happens often in the United States, the problem is not just
deranged people who have stood themselves in media's constant hate-mongering political leadership's hate-mongering, Republicans can decry this, but go back and look up the number of
“Republican politicians. Well, in the course of just the past couple of months, I've said that”
Muslims are the problem that there's no place in America for Muslims. It's horrible, it's disgusting, and on top of all that, as if it bears needs repeating, it's the deaths.
And I'm at U.S. Gun policy will lead to these things happening every single day, as they do,
because we have more guns in this country than people. And we are missing sensible gun control loss. Well, to follow up on a story we covered earlier, Elon Musk has officially lost his court case against OpenAI and Sam Altman, and it's pretty much the latest in a string of legal defeats for Mr. Musk. He lost out against former Twitter stakeholders, advertisers, and his government, and a doge experience some losses, so not really a good
time for Musk. The court essentially had just ruled that he had waited too long to bring these complaints against OpenAI, so they basically tossed the case. He got nothing out of it. So,
rightly, rightly, rightly, you sweet innocent boy. First of all, Elon's got like $700 billion.
So if you think these are bad days for Musk, just try to imagine, you know, you had to suffer this loss while you were counting your $700 billion. That's not so bad, but also the super rich, even just the very rich, use court cases like this to harass and make life difficult for their enemies. And the cost of doing this court case to Elon is zero. Now admittedly, you know, it may piss off some board members in his companies. But the reality is, I saw stories coming in the
wake of this defeat, in which people said, even though Sam Altman won he lost because people with the end of OpenAI are getting tired of his antics and his controversies and his conflicts and they want to focus on the product in creating shareholder value. So,
“is Elon the loser? Is Sam Altman the loser? Are billionaires ever really losers?”
Who knows? Certainly, we're going to see many more lawsuits between these people because it's how they communicate. I think lawsuits are like Elon's love language. Same with Donald Trump. It's how they reach out and touch the people who are on their minds. Fortunately for all of us here, we do that five podcasts.
